Comic related but not to the show.

There are some spin-off's I'm seeing like "Guarding the globe", "Invincible Universe" and the spider-man thing posted above. Are any of those worth reading? Astounding-Wolf Man?

I think Invincible Universe is a sequel of Guardians of the Globe. No idea if they are worth tho, I haven't read any of the multiple series that spawned around Invincible (or a bit earlier, like Tech Jacket), but to be honest none of the characters were appealing enough to me for checking them :P

Although I've always had some curiosity with Science Dog XD.

The Harley Quinn cartoon in HBO has solid artwork and animation. Nothing spectacular, but the bare minimum to be watchable and good. Straight up solid.

It just doestn make sense to me they would hire these actors for the voice and still cheap out so much on the art and animation. personally, i dont find it watchable. it looks like dog shit

Its just fucking terrible

I mean, these big companies, if you can hire Alex Kurtzman to make the worst fucking most embarrassing Star Strek shows of all time, nothing should surprise one

I disagree with this for the most part. Episode 4 is a mess of 3D animation hot trash, but the rest are fairly well animated. We nearly stopped watching after Episode 4 because of how drastically the style changed and how poorly it was utilized, but episode 5 more than makes up for it. I honestly can't tell WHY they swapped to 3D for that episode, but I hope to god they don't do it again.

Speaking of - is this show still airing or is it really just 5 episodes long?

Still airing. 8 episodes the first season. The animation is definitely very cheap. There is no doubt about it. Its a huge shame. I don't really get it. I mean, they are trying to save money, but this is high profile enough they didnt need to go so cheap.

It just looks like one of those DC animated movies. Just looks like crap. I think this is big enough that its no appropriate to cheap out so much.

Maybe it's because I've been watching 70's anime, but the show looks fine to me. My standards are probably lower.

Coming from someone who read the full run we could definitely do with a book/show only thread split.

We did the same thing with Game of Thrones IIRC.

I don't think this thread has enough traffic to compare it to GOT in it's heyday. Clearly labelled comic spoilers should be a no brainer there though.

People are already being super coy and "wink wink" about their comic book knowledge tho. Must be infuriating for show only viewers.

The animation stuck out to me as poor as soon as I put the first episode on. It looked waaaaay too much like Ben10 and the tone of the show felt very similar. Once the show got moving though, I became too invested in the story to really let it bother me.

Nah, DC movies look better. I don't think I've ever seen Superman flying by just.. zooming and moving a static layer in them, but in Invincible it happens almost all the time :D

It's really distracting, since other parts are actually animated really well.

That's pretty much my frustration. I've already read stuff about Omniman and Viltrumites that the show hasn't let on about yet. In addition to other "mechanics" about the shows characters and powers. In the open.

Hi, first time posting in here and I've been watching and enjoying the show very much.

I haven't read the comic and went into the show with no knowledge at all so I have a question about powers.

Is Invincible really invincible? Or can he be killed? Or is it like, he can be "killed" but his body will always regenerate over time or something?

Homie gets fucked up a lot lol.

I'm not nitpicking a lot because each episode is 40 mins. It'd be different if it was 24 mins like how we're accustomed to. 40 mins is the sweet spot. I love it.

The only thing we know about it from the show so far is that Cecil took some of Mark's blood and they are trying to experiment to kill his cells but they haven't been able to. So he might be actually invincible or there is some kind of kryptonite that they haven't found yet.

Ahhh ok, wasn't sure cuz during the last episode final fight
That lion dude fucked em up bad and I thought he pretty much killed em and could have if he wanted to but just left instead. Especially with all the blood. Just wasn't sure how bad a beating he could take haha.

I wouldn't say this is a spoiler, but I'll tag it either way:
the last episode (or even the first episode ending really) has shown that viltrumites can indeed be hurt. If Battle Beast had continued, Mark would have most likely died. That being said, they are also very very tough to kill.

All, as this is a thread for the series on Amazon, please please please tag your spoilers for any book-related material. Some of you are doing this, but I wanted to put this out there that everyone should do so.

Thanks.

What was the turn around time for this show? Or did they use up their budget on the cast?

I don't think this is considered a spoiler, but I'll mark it as such, just in case to answer your question!

Nolan and Mark aren't immortal. They can most certainly be killed, they're just insanely resilient and hard to kill. Battle Beast absolutely could have killed Mark if he wanted to.

For the bolded, it's never that simple. Even for productions that well-rounded, they will still have flaws if you tail-comb through the footage enough times. Animation production, especially in television and mobile game development (where budgets and deadlines are fixed), is 100% stressful with the demands and assets need to be created versus the time given.

And, speaking from experience, I've yet to come across a single "lazy" animator, designer, storyboard artist, BG Painter, etc. in my career in the animation industry. And if they do exist, they don't last long in this field. If anything, our industry has the opposite problem. Hell, going through this thread (and several others that are focused on serialized animated shows, video games, etc.), the word "Lazy" really isn't the right word to use. What you're looking for is "lack of time". Not "lack of effort" or "lack of motivation".

And feel free to criticize something, but for the love of god have some empathy.

I honestly don't have a clue what you are talking about. Strange post.

No one said anything about the animators being lazy. Not sure who or what you are replying to.

no one is saying that. We said that Amazon cheap outbox the animation front, either by budget or time constraints. No one is blaming the animators, we are criticizing the results which is a valid complaint.

It's bananas. Two Walking Dead alums. JK Simmons. Mark Hamill. Jason Mantzoukas. Seth Rogan. Sandra Oh. Zachary Quinto. Walton Goggins. Gillian Jacobs. Every episode there is a new character and I'm like why does this person sound so familiar. Also x-ray is quietly prime video's best feature.

I binged this show in one go. It was great. Animation is uneven at times but when it's good it's good. The cast is absolutely nuts lol.

Two Walking Dead alums
Even more than that. Every single Guardian of the Globe is TWD alum and that is aside from Steven Yeun himself. A lot of them came to work together again :)

Steven Yeun
Ross Marquand
Lennie James
Michael Cudlitz
Chad L. Coleman
Sonequa Martin-Green
Lauren Cohan

Agreed. I absolutely love it. Some of the jokes they put in there have been pretty amusing.

The goofy CG background characters can be pretty distracting, but I honestly think the animation is fine otherwise.

this show is gud

makes me kinda wish we get more straight up adaptations with the same art and everything for a few key comics (planetary, saga, etc)

It's why I'm rooting for this show tbh lol
If it's successful we might get more adult animation that's not raunchy adult comedies plus stuff like Saga, Black Science and East of west would make good shows

That's what I thought too, and I looked it up to get the back story on that, but then realized it's just animators being cheap. It's probably the thing that annoys me the most about this show.

Ok the end of episode 5 was pretty good. Omni Man was on some Cell Saga shit watching his son get that ass whooping

Also Titan seems pretty interesting. Too bad there's only 3 episodes left. Episodes 2-4 were boring as hell
