Eh, my phone is worth well over a grand so I don't really care how much the console costs.

This anology is solid but problematic in the sense carrier monthly payment plans are so much more accepted and common for mobiles as opposed to consoles.

Equally, phones generally are considered essential for daily ops in a way that consoles don't have

But yeah - this tech is going to last five / six years and it seems solid upgrades on the PS4, so higher end seems fair to me

As long as it's reasonable my ps4 pro gets traded in and I pick one up day one.

If its £499 then that's quite a lot.

I've already saved up 1000€ for XSX and PS5, after that I'll need to save some more, but will probably still be there day one. I don't think we'll get the price today, however.

I'm mostly PC and hope to either wait for price cut/bundle deals, or perhaps more Sony games start hitting PC, but if the price is low enough I may just bite the bullet. Backward compatibility is a huge bonus.

I expect it to be around $499 but not announced today. I was there at PS3 launch... $599 is a lot, but I have a real job now, a huge 4K tv, and it's backwards compatible (I have a suddenly growing backlog). Launch window games and details will help me decide but I'm probably in.

Price really isnt the deciding factor for me, but there has to be a game I really really want at launch for me to bite - rumored and speculated games for launch window isnt my cup of tea.

I agree but;
1) Most stores will do loan options on consoles it's just that the price of consoles rarely necessitates that.
2) Yes, phones are necessary. A Note 10+, an iPhone 11 Max and all these super expensive ones aren't. Spending lots on a phone is a luxury.

£499 would definitely be way too much for me. (I realise that's not how the conversion works out, even factoring in tax, but we never just get the converted price plus tax.)

I have less money today than I did when the PS4 launched at £349, and I don't think that's a particularly unusual position to be in. Even putting aside my own personal financial situation, I think releasing the PS5 at a £150 premium over last gen would be a mistake. I just don't think the market's there to support that kind of price point.

Anything up to 500 is a buy asap.

Anything over that, im gonna make that decision based on the launch window games, maybe wait for some reviews

Entirely depends on the launch titles. I won't shell over 500 bucks for another Killzone Shadowfall/Knack situation.

I am not going to excuse a $600 console price for Sony or Microsoft, but I will leave you with this if you have any intention of owning one in 20-21:

You either pay $600 now, or $1200 on the secondary market once stock is depleted and struggles to make its way back into consumers hands this holiday season. It stings, but I've been preparing for $600 for both consoles since the specs leaked.

$400, $500, $600–whatever preorders drop at I will be there knowing that I'm not helping a scalper get rich.
You're most likely correct. Most consoles have limited stock for the first year, due to covid 19 it's probably going to be even worse for these consoles. If you want it buy it, otherwise you're going to have to wait and fight stock issues and scalpers. At $600 i'm okay waiting though. $500 is a price I'm okay paying day one with my roommates

500 is cool with me. 400 would be bloody fantastic.

To me, there is not much point in waiting, since the price decreases minimally in my opinion.

The following are roughly the average of cheapest prices the PS4 was available for (Netherlands/Euro).
2013: 400
2014: 360
2015: 330
2016: 300
2017: 250
(and eventually 200 for Slim in sales, but back to 250 again)

So I am cool with being a day 1 buyer, since waiting 1-2 years is not worth the wait for me personally.

I don't really care what it costs, but I also don't plan on buying at launch anyway. I make a point of not being an early adopter, only last having made an exception with PS3 because I had no choice if I wanted a 60GB model.

The price is a factor obviously, but what'll really push me to get it are the games, backwards compatibility info and other factors. I'm not just gonna get it straight away if it's cheap enough.

I won't buy it in the first year anyway, but I have to imagine they know £399 is still the sweet spot... They'd maybe creep to £449, but I think any higher than that is giving Microsoft a free shot.

That said, I think today will be about the games, I feel like they might wait on pricing until MS's reveal.

If it's £349 like the PS4 was - YEEEEEEEEEES!
If it's £399 - Possibly a launch purchase, it depends. The games and features need to grab me.
If it's over £399 - I'm waiting for a price cut.

I don't care about the price. I've never regretted a PS purchase, and I don't expect that will change. This is going to be an expensive year, with a PS5, new monitor, and GPU upgrade.

I prefer to pay 500, even 550, with what is inside instead of 400 back in the day with barely acceptable spec.

400 instant buy

500 look at games and XSX lineup. Probably buy it.

600 lol NO

I'll eventually own it but 600 is a no go for me. I'll let others test it and wait for a few good games.

A lot of people gonna be really disappointed, especially the lunatics expecting $399. I think it will be $599, which is still a steal for what is basically a 2070 super ryzen 3700x combo with a state of the art nvme drive. Those 3 components alone put you at like $1000 in the PC space.

$499 would be absolutely incredible value but they would definitely be losing money. We'll see, but I think PS5 and Series X both come out at $599.

for me, under 500 is preorder immediately, and under 600 is preorder after a few minutes of hesitation.

I'm still using my launch-day ps4, so I'm a bit thirsty here.

Lower price = more sales = nail in the gen 8 coffin faster

I am praying for $399 for that reason but I would happily pay $499

Pricing doesn't matter to me up to a point, but I likely wouldn't be buying it at launch regardless of the price anyway. Going to need more than a few games that aren't Demon's Souls to get an early purchase from me, since the system would primarily be sitting for the first year and a half before next-gen actually gets started.

I'm not gonna vote since I don't think 499 is high. It would actually be low for said hardware.

I hope the multiple SKU thing is real and they drop a bomb, like 449,- for the 825GB and 549,- for double the storage. What will Microsoft do then when SX is only available in 1TB?

I will be buying it even if its £2k as i know it will provide me with 3 years worth of gaming enjoyment. Theres far too great many Sony exclusive franchises to simply ignore their system. The price will be £499 at launch imo.

I legit don't expect it to break $500 USD based solely around the debacle with the PS3 launch. I'm also expecting we won't hear price until mid-Summer after they reveal the box.

PS5 + games + accesories = $1000

is just a matter of how many games I'll bring home at launch.

yeah this is my only issue. I'm going to be stuck with 1 controller for a bit, especially since I'm also buying a XSX day 1. I'll have a backlog based on Gamepass, but I'm only buying PS5 day one for exclusives and because they may be hard to come by.

I got PS4 xmas 2015 for $299 with the Uncharted Collection thrown in. I expect the PS5 launch MSRP to be higher so my buy-in point will probably be $399 with a pack-in. Sooooo, see you in 2023.

Can't see them launching at anything other than $499. I think XSX will also launch at 499 but depends on the impact lockheart makes. If they can get a decent device out at 299 then it changes everything

I'll buy it just like the PS3 at launch, there is something magical about system launches. I'm trading my loud PS4 Pro in. It's not even plugged in anymore it's so loud and I can't stand it.

Probably wait a year until the hardware kinks are ironed out, or the first price drop is announced. Whichever comes first.

But these machines will be $499 - $549. No doubt about it.
