Every post is some mind-blowingly self-absorbed, bullshit motivational story that belongs on the ThatHappened subreddit.

Complimenting that is a nonsensical barrage of those snake oil successful habit books, recruiters constantly giving you a worse option then you already have, people who still say "touch base" and don't feel dead inside, constant stories of sexual harassment occurring in direct messages and

Every single post

Is formatted

like some extended haiku

Here is the typical Linkedin Post from gold premium influential recruiter 101:

He came to the office

He was late

He smelled like shit

His shoe laces were untied

But I hired him

Why?

Because...

Its not about whats on the outside

Or the fact you need a shower

Or the fact you dont have a watch

Its about..

Courage

We fired him 2 months later

Agreed its self absorbed bullshit mostly but it can be a great networking tool. I was recruited to my current company through Linkedin.

I also get tired of vague connection requests where it's clear the person is trying to sell my company shit. As if I have authority to authorize something like that.

What continues to shock me is how LinkedIn wants me to add people I dated over 5 years ago as professional contacts. Whatever their algorithms are, they're truly terrifying.

You don't have to add them, someone in your network just has to have liked or shared them. I also think LinkedIn shares some of these as well.

Then just remove them? That said, i haven't used the site in years and this was the way to keep things clean back then. Most people complaining about their social media feeds don't get that they are mostly the reason why it looks like that and it can be controlled.

Yesterday I was walking to an interview. There was a starving dog on the road. I stopped to feed him & missed the interview. The next day I got a call asking to come in to do the interview. I was surprised, but I went. Then the interviewer came in. He was the dog.

I'm not really sure how you could expect it to be any different, it's just how corporation works. It's just something you have force yourself to ignore.

It's a recruiting platform that fundamentally favors businesses. Everything about LinkedIn is designed to give employers the best candidates. Microsoft makes their bacon by selling users' information to clients and pushing sponsored content. The social media component has a limited use case for networking with people you can't find on other platforms, but otherwise it, like everything else, is built to support industry.

Clubhouse is rapidly eclipsing it with all the hustleporn dopes trading MLM tips under the guise of marketing.

This happened to me once too, but it was a guinea pig. Salary ended up sucking so I turned down the offer.

I don't know if you guys got stuff like this in English but in French HR/Marketing people often try to lure you in with shitty "funny job descriptions" like a Programmer Ninja or a Game Design Guru. It always hurts me to my core. It's also a platform for HR people to share shitty stories that either never happened, or happened to one person like 20 years ago. These inspirational stories designed to make them seem so cool and reliable and willing to give people chances.

The social media aspect of Linkedin is some of the worst shit I've ever seen. But it's still a good platform to connect with people, and I received legit offers through there and actually had some interesting conversations with some people.

All of social media is self-absorbed, self-aggrandizing, hollow garbage meant to manipulate and exploit others by design. It's a medium almost exclusively used for propagandizing and selling things. The quality information is (and almost always has been) paywalled on the internet. That's the little secret about the internet.

It's become a garbage medium that is facilitating the break down of legitimate human relationships and interactions.

I've actually had this exact post shared by many of my connections, and I've seen many different variations of it.

Is LinkedIn Actually The Worst Social Media Site?

At this point, I’m pretty sure I cry-wolfed myself into not being able to ever write about anything that’s serious or real without people automatically brushing it off as fraudulent hogwash. Granted, ...

The feed is absolute garbage, there's no denying that. I do, however, have my connections on there extremely curated to people I know, like, and respect. It's a great resource for seeing the career trajectories your peers have taken, how your successful peers write out their job descriptions, what skills they have and leverage, and how & when they decided to move jobs in their careers.

As someone in elementary education, a field where LinkedIn might as well be completely useless, I'm weirded out year after year by all the messages I get from people unrelated to my field wishing me happy birthday. No clue how a tax accountant in Idaho found my account, but uh... thanks man?

Linked In is culmination of all the worst SV trends of people trying to be more important than they are

It's like the "I gave a meet up talk" resume bullet point taken to the nth degree.

So many of the posts on that website sound like the author of the post had a gun held to their head by corporate overlords telling them to blindly praise their company and spread the word of all of their great and selfless deeds.

I can't wait to retire so I delete this platform from my life. I've always hated corporate motivational speak, LinkedIn raised it to truly despise.

It's one of the reasons I don't ever want to work in the business world again. The self absorbed pretentiousness is off the charts for a lot of people.

Hahahahaha same thing happened to me. WTF. I guess Tinder, Bumble etc sell our data or maybe it's FB seeing as it's connected to our contact list on our devices.

I can't stand LinkedIn. It's a necessary evil depending on the industry you are in, but it's so insincere.

Whenever I see someone publicly praising upper management, I throw up in my mouth a little. I say this as someone in upper management.

Well, LinkedIn used to constantly bug me to import my email contact list so it can both send a connection invite email addresses that have an account and an invite link to email addresses that don't have an account. I believe they do the same with phone contacts as well. But it also recommends certain people if you have a lot in common like same workplace, similar connections, same school, etc., the more similarities the more likely it is you know that person and so it recommends that person.

It's crazy how many hiring leads my company gets through linkedin. We have a few people who actively post on there and it drives a ton of applications. I think people just like knowing a little about a company when they're looking for a place to work. When you're trying to recruit people, getting free applications like that is insanely valuable. When you get applications through recruiting companies they take several months of a new hire's starting salary as fee, it's so expensive.

I've been able to largely ignore LinkedIn for the entirely of my professional career. My job is now trying to integrate LinkedIn Learning, but I feel like the social aspect is useless for me.

I love those fake stories where it is clear the poster is an asshole. Tells me which recruiters to avoid.

Oh god, I didn't even need to read the story to remember it, just based on her face/name it comes flooding back.

It used to be straight forward and minimalistic way to make connections but now it's full of people making posts about how good they are how great their project is and it's full of recruiter bots messasing you.

And people only think only to contact you by pressing that automate button to congratulate you because they got a notification a certain amount of time passed working somewhere.
