Revisiting the TGA threads after all these Death Stranding wins is so cathartic.
Let's be honest here, there are probably 10 websites/publications that people care about when it comes to GOTYs.
Or are people really gonna tell me that they waited all day to hear what some random website they've never heard before had to say?
Sounds like they'll take anything they can at this point.Let's be honest here, there are probably 10 websites/publications that people care about when it comes to GOTYs.

This!Including User Polls into the overall listings is like putting together both Critic and User Reviews into a title's overall metascore.. It makes absolutely no sense.

All these random website wins account towards the larger aggregate which people have had no issue referencing in previous years when talking about X game winning 250 GoTY awards and so on.

Which is kinda bs when you think about it. Take Zelda for example. It won every major GOTY, yet is not the most awarded game of all time because that year there weren't as many goty lists as other years.
I mean even CD Projekt themselves used GOTY Picks, and their lots of 'random website they´ve never heard before' when promoting the fact that The Witcher 3 had become the most awarded game of all time back in the past so I don´t see why people shouldn´t take notice too.
Here some stats I wrote on last year's very entertaining gotyblog thread. *Feel free to edit/fix them, I'm not doing this again XD*

EDIT: The following are the years not covered by gotyblog, unfortunately its hard to get the right amount of winners during these years due to magazines and sites no longer being available to us and these are just based on sources in Wikipedia/Gamepedia. This means that some of the overall winners like SoulCalibur, The Sims and GTA 3 may have not been the winners of their respective year.

It is nuts that the year which had Breath of the Wild is the year with the least amount of GOTYs counted. Why is that?
Added to OP!
There are only 9 polish websites on that blog. The next year has 11. Didn't show up? You have something against Witcher 3 or Poland? If it's any consolation, it received the 2nd highest percentage of the GoTY awards in the charts.

Of course it could have been higher if it wasn't for for all those reviews marked (PL) in 2015, a bunch of which don't show up in subsequent years :p

There is no point he just made an observation. The most awards ever counted were in 2013. You passed a judgment that polish websites suddenly appeared only for Witcher 3 which is hilarious.Nah, thoroughly enjoyed the game. However I see Soulnado's point too.

Zelda fans can't accept a game with more awards rs and,no,it didn't won "every" major award,or we gonna ignore the fact of What Remains of Edith Finch won BAFTA,one of the biggest if not the biggest, and well deserved,a masterpiece of game. There is no point he just made an observation. Too soon to say that, both won 5 critics and we will have probably more 250 critics.Overwatch won 1 more than Uncharted 4,so almost a tie,a good example can be 2010,Mass Effect won more reader's,but Red Dead Redemption took the critics. It seems that this year will be a repeat of Uncharted 4 vs Overwatch with Death Stranding vs Control.
Control's going to win the majority of the big awards, just like Overwatch did, but Death Stranding will beat it by a fair margin because of the readers picks.
Critics
Death Stranding won 7 already and Control 5 ;)Too soon to say that, both won 5 critics and we will have probably more 250 critics.
#2 and #1 will most likely be either outer wilds, control or RE2. their review for death stranding doesn't read very positive, honestly.Polygon #3 is Devotion (never head of it),I am curious what will be their GOTY,I think they where very positive about Death Stranding, and they are among TGA jury.
Looking at Polygon's Recommends page (both Sekiro and Baba is You are on it), it's unlikely that DMCV,Fire Emblem, Outer Worlds or Death Stranding will make the list.
That being said, RE2, Outer Wilds, Astral Chain, Control, and Luigi's Mansion 3 have a decent shot.
If I am not wrong,in the most recently top 100 games of the decade, didn't Death Stranding score the higher in their list ? Of 2019 games#2 and #1 will most likely be either outer wilds, control or RE2. their review for death stranding doesn't read very positive, honestly.
you're right, it's high on their top of the decade list (#53). i guess we'll see in two days.If I am not wrong,in the most recently top 100 games of the decade, didn't Death Stranding score the higher in their list ? Of 2019 games
maybe it's about them being a new website? they started this year if i'm not mistaken, but they're a very good publication. a lot of good content, interviews, and their reviews are very well written. If I wasn't broke, I'd buy Control and Star Wars now, Resident Evil 2 being a remake is certainly holding it as expected, Still do not understand why VGChronicles is not included, I think the blog is not seeing this topic as last year.
I didn't know, must be this then, next year they should enter.maybe it's about them being a new website? they started this year if i'm not mistaken, but they're a very good publication. a lot of good content, interviews, and their reviews are very well written.
So is voting for Death Stranding as GOTY the new "Own the libs" because it pisses off people who dislike Kojima and don't think that the game deserves the award?
No, it's just an incredible game and people love it. So they are voting for it.So is voting for Death Stranding as GOTY the new "Own the libs" because it pisses off people who dislike Kojima and don't think that the game deserves the award?
No, the game is actually fucking amazing. What's with these shitty takes?
I guess that's all what you wanna see because you hate the game.Is it though. What is with these snarky comments when DS wins something as if the fact that it pisses off its detractors a worthy achievement on its own.
Kojima is the only one who gets high off all the adoration. For me it's just an observation and we all have our opinions on this matter. Personally I hope that future games are far from being like Death Stranding, Kojima can keep his self proclaimed genre.
Yeah definitely. And I have many gripes with this game. I know that not everyone will feel this way but personally I find it insulting to expect the player to watch the same cutscenes over and over again hundreds of times just because there is potentially some cutscenes scattered between that helps advance the plot and understandably very few people would want to skip those. Then there is the question of responsiveness and transversal.I guess that's all what you wanna see because you hate the game.
And it can be seen here:
I don't. A lot of GOTY awards overall? Yes. At Geoff's show tomorrow? No.Regardless I fully expect Kojima to win GOTY at the Game Awards tomorrow.
It's a good game. So it deserves it whatever it gets.I don't think that his divisive game deserves it but whatever, it is what it is.
Publishers can be desperate, there are Goty editions for games that will make anyone's eyes roll, doesn't mean we have to be as well ;)Sure that was an exaggeration. But...
If it works for publishers it works for us as well ;)
I want death stranding to win equally because it's a great game and equally because reading all the salt is oddly satisfying. No, the game is actually fucking amazing. What's with these shitty takes?
Another one. Nice! :)Lifehacker game of the year : Death Stranding
It's so good :) Great game with highly addictive gameplay.Man I can't wait to get my hands on Death Stranding PC (my only option to play it).
I get that it's divisive, but it also looks like an incredibly acquired taste...one that I can totally get behind given my style of gaming.
What on Earth? Death Stranding is fucking excellent. So is voting for Death Stranding as GOTY the new "Own the libs" because it pisses off people who dislike Kojima and don't think that the game deserves the award?
