good luck manwelp it's fairly likely I'll be laid off in two weeks
trying not to panic
Went to YouTube and held down End for a bit out of curiosity, and I'm... really not seeing any difference at all between now and 2018 if that's the arbitrary comparison point you're pointing to? Most stuff is and was 15-30k. That's also not getting into the Twitch numbers for the same streams that go on YT. Not to mention that the Bombcast remains incredibly popular in audio only form. They've always had to wait to fill new hires even before the pandemic, and Dan left soon before it started so that means very little.
also, anecdotally, I absolutely see talk of them outside of places like this one lol
Good luck duder :(welp it's fairly likely I'll be laid off in two weeks

There were more people watching that Nextlander stream than Amelia Watson (with 1 and a quarter million subscribers) playing Obra Dinn tonight
If you want to believe that they didn't lose any popularity, I won't convince you, so why am I even arguing.
You could convince me they lost popularity. You just won't be able to convince me that it's a dire drop vs a couple years ago without anything to back it up.
Like they're certainly in a shaky make-or-break position rn. I just don't think your very confidently stated beliefs on how that happened make much sense.
I demand drawings of Vinny and his dog Kirby rendered like they're in a slice of life animeyeah, but nextlander is gonna get slightly less fanart, so it evens out
just gonna talk about alexa rankings to bolster my argument about how a website is dying. you know, totally normal stuff.
They lost popularity and are no longer part of the gaming zeitgeist, why do I need to provide some theory on "how that happened"?
How are you determining what makes them part of the "gaming zeitgeist" beyond Alexa rankings, of all things? I would assume having one of the most popular gaming podcasts puts them up there but...
no one cares, shut the fuck upDo you have any metrics that prove their podcast is still very popular and would be enough to finance this large a staff? Please show me some receipts.
I would assume having fewer and fewer page impressions, low viewership on Youtube and a site-restructring in progress after all of the editorial staff departed would make it self-evident the site declined in popularity but ...

Maybe you should tell that to deepFlaw, who specifically asked me? Apparently some people like discussing things on a discussion forum.
Wtf I missed in the middle of all this frenzy today that Dave Bautista quote tweeted Jan?

Same user that was critiquing people in the thread for them all leaving for having an emotional response to itAwfully fun setting a user who does nothing but doompost to ignore.
I don't read every post in this thread. Their Alexa ranking has dropped a ton since 2018 (they used to be in the 3000 range, now below 16000), they barely have any Youtube views, constant Premium sales, they are being rebuilt, no new full-time hires for a long time. It's very much self-evident.

Everything else has been rebuffed but I still enjoy the "constant" premium sales that happen at the same time and same frequency every year.
If a group of 3 people doing their own podcast and content threaten the popularity and/or production of a company with over 3,500 that speaks to management of the Giantbomb website and a need for resources/re-evaluation of what Giantbomb can or should be.Watching Brad power wash just after watching Jan power wash is a bit weird.
what if NL and GB do competing Endurance Runs....
I wonder if Vinny is planning to get some sort of studio space eventually.
All these podcasts/Patreons are also gonna have to compete with my money towards the other streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max, too. I guess I can cancel Peacock now since I don't even watch WWE anymore, lol.
He must have known but not wanted in.How do you do this without Jeff Gerstmann? It's bananas
Like whaaaaaaaaaat?

For Jeff to leave with them he would have to leave the rest of GB staff on ice. He already sold GB, and then to leave and see corporate leadership steer that site without him would probably be too tough.
For real, only started seeing 'em at the departure thread making bad posts and then continued doing it here.Awfully fun setting a user who does nothing but doompost to ignore.
