According to Miyazaki, there will be no towns or cityscapes with NPCs to interact with in Elden Ring, but you can expect village ruins in a similar vein to his other titles.

So Shadow of The Colossus meets Dark Souls. It's what a lot of us were thinking when imagining what From's open world approach might look like, but still, music to my ears.

Horses confirmed, nice. I do wonder about that "assassinate leaders of countries and take their power" rumour from before since that was from the same source... but since there are no cities, probably not, though.
Maybe old, but apparently Frognation are making localisation for Elden Ring
Sweeeeet

I hope Jason Pitt (Vengarl, Valtr) and Joe Simms (Creighton) return...

Ain't that the truth! Didn't Miyazaki describe them as "challenging action RPGs" or something back in the Dark Souls 3 days? I like that term.
I've always been partial to Fromsoft-A(ction)/RPGs. Or FSARPG. Defines From's unique style of action/arpg game, includes all the same works, without trying to attach seventy million names together.

itll never catch on

Okay sooo...big dude in the trailer is totally inspired by Balor a Fomorian ruler from Irish Mythology. And the guy with the spear is his grandson Lugh.

The description of the battlefield in this excerpt sounds strangely familiar to what we see in the trailer. Also notice how twice in the trailer when the blacksmith hammers it cuts to a piece of smithed equipment. First the Chick/Dude with the mechanical Arm(Nuada). And second to the dude with the Spear(Lugh who is said to have had it crafted by Goibniu the same dude who crafted Nuada's mechanical arm). Also that severed arm in the beginning is definitely Nuada's.

Seriously anyone interested in potential inspiration for the lore check out these links.

Spear dude:

One Arm Person:

The Battle Scene:

Hammer dude:
Wow everything adds up perfectly. And some people think we didn't get much info in the trailer, holy shit.

Horse riding is interesting, but the most important thing imo is that he confirmed we're not getting silly underpopulated towns full of chatty townsfolk, but they're staying on what from does best. Ruined civilizations, NPCs scattered around the ruined world, cryptic and almost dreamlike.
Excited!

When From presented Dark Souls 3 with a trailer in CGI they also showed screenshots in game at E3. Omnipotent, have any hope for Elden Ring too?

Why would anyone play Sekiro in any language other than Japanese?
Because for some people, reading subtitles mid combat in a fast paced action RPG can be rough. I started with the English, because I expected the normal quality of from voice talent, but it was awful. So switched to Japanese straight away. (Which were very good).

Ah, I get you. Fortunately Sekiro was more of a slice and dice before stopping to have a chat when the coast is clear kind of game.

"Gameplay-wise, it's heavily based on Dark Souls"
Here I am hoping not to see a return of the rolling and the slow paced combat style from the dark souls series.

I'm not sure how are they going to implement Co-op or PVP in an open world setting.
Are there any game out there that successfully combine multiplayer, open world, interconnected areas, and boss fight out there?

Maybe Destiny? Having people roaming around you join up for jolly cooperation! I get the feeling the coop will be classic Souls but I hope they move away from that now and make something that is more flexible and fun. Of course keep some kind of Invasion stuff in there but coop needs to be more fleshed out, as do the covenants etc.

I find the gameplay in DS3 even too slow paced and the rolling in there clunky.

Maybe this won't be for you then. Seems like that is what we are getting and I for one am ecstatic about it. Sure, Sekiro is smoother/faster, but you also play a lithe ninja and they only had to animate one weapon style. We are getting an RPG deeper than Souls with Elden Ring. The character will be more realistic, unable to Spiderman his way across a level. I wouldn't expect anything close to Sekiro.

I'm a liiiiiiiiiil sad that we won't get towns, was rather curious about From would do it. But also now I have the expectation to know what is that From styled open world design they have in this.

One thing I didn't even consider before is that, with this being their largest world yet and all, they end up feeling the need to include an in-game map. That would suck.

This is more of a personal issue than fair design criticism, I guess, but more often than not I end up playing open world games while staring at the minimap. Not my character, not the enemies, not the world, the map. I experience the world through my periferal vision while I chase icons, it sucks.

And I can't even blame the design for that, because even if it relies too much on the map, I could just look every now and then to make sure I'm going in the right direction, the fact that I keep staring is my own fault.

Which is why I always disable minimaps whenever the game lets me, even if that leads to me opening the full map all the time, because at least the game isn't moving while I do it, and I'm not missing on anything.

I don't think this game would need a mini map. Maybe a world map you can check out for far travelling. But once you enter a castle/dungeon, it'd be the same as souls, so a mini map would be out of place.

But then if there's no pause I don't see how you're using a map.

I hope this has pause in an offline mode. Or at least while you're not matched up in a session, if there's messages on the floor etc.

I wanna KNOW. I wanna see the horse animations and read control impressions.

It seems there isn't a behind closed door demo? hopefully we'll still get a gameplay trailer at gamescom

Well there wouldnt really be need for a map if the world had enough recognizable waypoints you could see from the distance, I think Botw did a great job with this, I barely felt the need to use the map when exploring the overworld. The markers where great too but this might be a bit too gamey for From to do
Regardless, I think it's more likely that we might get a map but I'd imagine it being closer to that of SoTc where it was a bit more ambiguous and used to determine a general direction, not an actual set path
I dont think they'd give us maps for the individual kingdoms considering these will work like classic fromsoft levels.
Whatever it ends up being, I hope it makes sense within the game's world and doesnt feel too gamey. I need that inmersion

What's making you think this is the case? The closed door demo i mean. Based on this last interview, we know they had a talk with miyazaki and more interviews are coming but theres no mention of a demo...
