Man the checkpoint system is so aggravating for how easy it is to die. I placed a portcrystal down thinking that I could just warp back to it if something happened, then got killed by a stronger version of a bandit that looked identical to every other bandit I've seen so far and all my progress including putting the portcrystal down was undid lol.

If you start doing escort missions you'll learn to save every other encounter, lol. You'll never know how fucked up your enemies are and never go into unknown woods. Death awaits.

I still didn't set my foot in the Everfall and did all available side missions up until now. Don't want to miss any of them because I know how easy it is to miss them. At least I have my gold idol + copy for the discount already. :)

Since Days Gone fizzled out I have a renewed interest in this. Any advantage of getting DD physical over digital? Besides the obvious.

Getting lost way too much lol I know that exploration is rewarded and all, but man!

I follow the maker on the map that tells me where the quests are, but I can't find a good path and end up taking long LONG paths until I get to the destination.

Any tips?

The map is basically a big loop, but it's small enough that by the end, as long as you don't just teleport everywhere, you'll know the entire thing like the back of your hand. It is more of a big level than an open world like RDR2 or something.

I'll tag this behind spoilers, as I'm gonna mention location names, but I'll be vague as possible:

Cassardis connects to two places: Gran Soren, and the area to the west that has a number of key locations. From Gran Soren, you can go through the quarry to the west, which takes you to the far end of the area to the west. The areas to the northwest and northeast of Gran Soren are more self contained, but you only really visit them later on in the game if you follow the story.

Man having a blast playing through this so far! I feel like I'm overleveled for the quests I'm on though - I'm picking up wrym hunts at the moment, just finished the siege one and now I'm backtracking to the slate one at level 30.

Beyond that I forgot how fun the pawn system was. I keep going back and forth on whether I want my pawn to be a Strider or a Ranger. Currently I have her as a strider, outfitted with aneled stilettoes (probably will swap this out) and a rusted bow. She always keeps her distance from enemies and uses the bow though, even with Scather as the main inclination.

Just snagged this last night and started playing a bit. Fun so far, I'm starting as Strider since I want to shoot at things.

So if I understand this correctly, I can place a portcrystal anywhere and then teleport there later via a ferrystone, and that is the only method of fast travel. But according to the wiki I need to buy ferrystones for 2,000 G a pop. That's pretty expensive to me at this point. And they're one time use. Jeez, this fast travel system SUCKS

Are you in Gran Soren already?
Check your storage for an Eternal Ferrystone, that has unlimited uses. No need to actually buy or use the normal ferrystones, they seem to be a leftover from the base game before Dark Arisen came out last gen.

I feel like the fast travel system is purposefully awful, so it encourages people to go around on foot. Gransys is probably one of my favourite open world locations ever, solely due to the fact how familiar I got with it by the end.

Port Crystals are limited though, too.

To further this, the spoilered was a bonus for having a save of the original version of the game. If you started with the DA version last gen, you didn't have that.

Awesome, thanks! I am in Gran Soren. I will check for that the next time I play. That will make things a lot easier!

I just had a quest where I needed to go all the way back toward the start of the game from Gran Soren and it was such a damn trek there and back. And this was before I even knew there was any type of fast travel system.

Doing a dual sorcerer playthrough- was pathetically weak at level 10, but by the next tier of spells things are getting blown apart. I can't wait for the big spells from the gifs

I prolly shouldn't have bought this game on Switch... It's just not well suited for portable play I feel. I have REAL trouble seeing and identifying things in handheld mode. Everything's brown in green and while the gameplay is dope, I often don't even see what I'm aiming at. Zelda, while also being a 3rd person open world game in which you hit things with swords, was so much clearer in it's visual communication with it's cartoony artstyle.

On a bigger screen, I don't have these issues. But then I could be playing on my PS4 with a better controller and less popin. :( Meh, maybe I'll get used to it.

I remember not liking it the first time "back in the days". Is there any video demonstrating the mecanichs and explaining how to play ? Really want to give this a second chance.

Torn on whether I should get this game. I love Dark Souls but can't stand games like Xenoblade 2 or just about any JRPG with that kind of dialogue and acting. Does the world and combat of Dragon's Dogma outweigh the negatives (personally) of the story?

This game doesn't have anything in common with Xenoblade 2 in terms of dialogue or acting.

Just the first game that came to mind haha but I heard DD's story is pretty campy. I guess my question is are the combat and world good enough to enjoy the game purely on those?

I should have read the beginner notes before making my dude. I created a tiny ripped Man because he looked funny but I hate inventory management.

I'm at the beginning and created a pawn. Not sure I made the right choice after the giant snake fight. Will I get the chance to make another or delete the one I made?

You can recruit two extra pawns from the stone where you created your own. These are randomly generated if you're offline or, if you're connected to the internet, are the pawns created by other players.

So you have ample opportunity to tweak your party to how you see fit.

Oh, I know about the recruitment, but I was wondering if I can delete or redo my main pawn without starting the game over again.

Edit: Oh well, just started a new game. Thanks anyways!

Seriously, that's how I feel about most Switch games. They generally seem to be made with a TV screen in mind and nothing else. Basing stuff like UI or text size gets messed up and is generally way too small.

The new Fire Emblem for example looks like it comes with the exact same problems, based on the latest screenshots. Tiny UI, realistically proportioned characters that will be too small on the handheld screen when in tactics screen etc.

Before I make a new character, how much extra inventory space will I gain with a mid height dude as opposed to the smallest guy I can make?

In order to look for a specific pawn you just need the pawn ID right? You don't need the persons friend code?

Having fun with this, but doing a lot of running around unsure what I should be attacking. More than a couple of times I think I've already tried doing missions above my weight

Really glad to hear the port is good. I've put a lot of time into this on other platforms, but I'm always looking for good, lengthy games to play on handheld during my downtime.

Holy shit at magic in this game. I don't think I gave it a decent go last time I played this because it was always the realm of my pawn, but now I wish I did. In prep for magic Archer I started levelinh mage. It felt rough at first since staff damage is a pittance unless they are weak to the element, but after getting the 2nd tier magic after the 'high' versions of the other elements was a game changer. Conflag and whip lightning just fucking decimated ogres, gryphons, chimera on top of aoe one shotting or close to it, every goblin or thief trash mob in the game. Coming from melee and archery, those bigger bosses felt like sponges and now I have no fear. If I see that dragon again I think I can take him at this point.

The balancing seems a bit wack there, but I'm down for enjoying this ride.

I still just don't see the purpose of all the Crowd control or debiliations yet. Nothing lives long enough for it to matter, which is giving up a slot for more elemental coverage or a heal.

A Cave
Man I'd forgotten just how many enemies spawn at night...

Made the mistake of ending up at Hillfigure Knoll just as it got to nighttime and as soon as I stepped foot out of the cave it was just an almost endless battle against Direwolves, Snow Harpies and random Zombies throughout the whole night luckily I had a Pawn mage who knew what they were doing (someone from here Pawn name - Sörine, if your wondering why you suddenly have 3 Star Beast knowledge on Direwolves lol) so basically had a flamethrower turret going all night long as we easily blew through 50+ enemies

Also was the never ending battle music bug in the PS4 / PC versions? can't recall and I seem to have it happen a lot on this version

Going to start this weekend.

Is the DLC all integrated into the main story (like Dark Souls etc), or is it a separate thing? I guess I mean do you just see it as you play through normally?

It's all integrated. From the Dark Arisen items added (check your item box for the unlimited feystone and outfit armors asap), to the dlc quests on the boards. Bitterblack is even accessible almost right away, but obviously impossible to tackle until endgame.

The music of this game is lovely. I really want to explore more but there's no way of scouting out enemies or even analyzing them so every encounter could be my last and it kinda puts me off just wandering arounf

You don't need a friend code, but pawns on your friend list are free to rent. Normally, only pawns that are less than or equal to your level are free to rent. If the pawn has a higher level, you'll have to pay rift crystals to rent them based on the level difference with high/max level pawns costing ungodly amounts of RC.

I stumbled into the DLC in the first two hours of the game. Should I head back to the main game and do the DLC later?

I kind of really dig it, but it slightly annoys me. I mainly enjoy how my trips out to explore just escalate out of the blue sometimes. I tried rolling around at night for the first time and was beating bandit after bandit, then one of those undead dudes popped out and I teleported my behind back home. Lol

I ended up getting the game on the eshop. Should I start on hard or normal? I don't mind difficulty, but I'm wondering how balanced hard mode is (without too many spoilers).
