I got to Act 3 today and I forgot how much stuff there is to do now. And this time around, there's Tickington content too. This game is packed with things to do even more than last year
Is this the quest to get the jackpot on the roulette table? There's a foolproof way to get it, but it can take some time.
Near the roulette table, there's a bunny girl who tells you how many tokens are in the prize pool. Talk to her until she says there's 1,000,000 tokens and that she has a feeling that before long someone will win the whole lot.If she doesn't say that last part, or says there's less than 1000000 tokens in the pool, go rest at an inn and come back and talk to her again until she says the right thing.
Once she does, go to the roulette table and bet only on the numbers 14 and 21. Keep betting on those numbers until you win, it shouldn't take too long.
For some reason the game favors those numbers. The other night I won three jackpots in an hour with this method.
I read a really nice way to grind for some XP later in the game. If you feel under-leveled or want to unlock some more skill trees before any bosses check this out. I'll spoiler tag just in case:
The best place to grind in my opinion would be Mount Huji. the second platform on the left when you first enter spawns 4 Bloody Hand mobs. Kill all but one so one can call for back up. Then while you keep one or two alive to keep calling for back up, use that time to build up pep with Erik, Jade, and the Hero to gain double exp. Continue keeping a couple alive until you can build up pep with Jade, the Hero, and Sylvando to use Electrolight. If it works you should fight some metal slime, mainly vicious liquid metal slimes. If Rab is pepped use Dirge of Dundrasil to put them to sleep so they don't run away. Use Erik's Critical Claim knife ability and Jade's Lightning Thrust spear ability for insta-kills on them.
While you're waiting to get the party pepped up you can get lucky and spawn a Hardy Hand. It may run like the slimes but often at times it calls for back up which usually means another Hardy Hand. Just watch out for Whack. One time a hardy hand called in for reinforcements and I killed 3 metal hands for like 130K XP.
I went from my party being level 48 to level 60 in a few hours doing this before I tried fighting Mordegon.
Does anyone know of a better grinding spot than this?
So I attempted the super boss... yikes. I'm level 89 with Hero and everyone else mid 80s. Destroyed me. This is on normal too.
Ah well. I'm done with the game. 95 hours. Main party for the game ended up being Hero, Jade, hmmm, and Sylvando. Erik saw a good bit of use, Rab every now and then. Serena was crucial for one boss fight but otherwise never used beyond her introduction. Veronica
never got back in after her rejoining. Not sure why as her spells were still crowd clearers. I did use her in post game bosses for Magic Burst though.
Wow. I may write up a bigger post, but for now, I'll say that it's a great game with a bit too much bloat. What's weird is that I don't feel like played it that long, but at the same time, I think some of Act 2 and especially Act 3 are kind of excessive. Then again, I did everything in Act 3 and maybe you don't have to? I dunno, but regardless, I did love the game, just think it could've been trimmed. Especially since Act 3
undoes a lot of character development, and the new scenes are far worse than Act 2's. Sylvando's reconciliation with his papi being a prime example. Serena being back to her completely milquetoast ways (not that she was particularly good even after development as she's just so bland no matter what). I also think the pacing in Act 2 is a bit wonky, what with some characters joining really late, Serena again being the prime example. And poor Veronica is out for about 50% of the game.
Quick rundown:
- amazing looking game, great world to explore, absolutely loved it. Some incredible locations.
- really liked most of the cast. Sylvando, Veronica, Rab, and one more were standouts. Jade I have issues with, Serena was bland as fuck, and Erik was cool but below the other 4.
- amazing monster and boss designs.
- pep powers were so fun to use and witness. Loved the addition.
- voice acting is filled with personality and charm
- 2D quests in past DQ areas were cute
A few negatives:
- pacing beyond Act 1
- not a fan of Act 3 storywise too much.
What were the draconians settings that many of you have chosen?
I've played the demo, and only did 'Stronger Monsters'. I enjoyed it, but wondering if I should do 'No shops', as well. I have heard the game does allow for the 'No shops' with the crafting, but that doesn't help with healing items (only being able to find them).
None of the other options I really want to choose.
Edit: the only DQ mega boss I enjoyed a lot was God in DQVII, and that's only because I managed to get everyone to master the Platking class so they were all immune to spells and had absurdly high defense.
I feel like there's no such thing I can do to prepare in this game similar that.
I personally like the No Shops restriction. It really encourages you to fully explore the areas, complete quests, etc. to make sure you get every piece of equipment, recipe, and ingredient. Stealing becomes much more important. Each cool new piece of equipment (especially Itemized Kill rares) feels more like a victory. Also, you end up respecing your characters a lot more and experiencing more of their abilities because you need to take advantage of whatever equipment you have and thanks to no shops, you have a ton of money available for respecs. Also, as a minor bonus, Sylvando has a money throw ability which you can use more frequently if you're no spending money on shops.
This second time around, I haven't been with the official restriction because I wanted to see what was in shops but I'm still not buying anything. And honestly, shops make things easier since you don't have to work as much for your upgrades & you can just pick one equipment type for each character and stick with it, but in the end, most of the best equipment is from treasure chests, crafting, and stealing anyway so it's not like it's much of a downside if you're thorough & flexible.
Forge is weird in this game. In some ways, it's way better than DQ8 forge. In other ways, it's a pretty big step back. The lack of weapon/armor trees is a disappointment. Same for not being able to craft basic items. Learning what cheeses I can make was pretty fun even if items were pretty useless. At least I can buy missing items and have control over the enhancements
The no shops restriction can kinda help in a way. When I first played this on PS4 I visited a new town, saw some neat weapons and armor in the shop and bought them immediatly...only to stumble over a recipe for the same equipment somewhere in the same town or at least the very next dungeon. Always felt like I actually just wasted money by buying equipment.

That's true, didn't think about the stealing aspect. I could do that for the healing items, although I could see it being very time consuming. I know when I went through that first big dungeon in the demo (can't remember the name now) it was quite tough and I went through a lot of herbs in healing myself.
To build up that stock of herbs of course will take a LOT longer now. The other thing I would worry about is gaining too much EXP. I guess i could steal and run (I don't want to put on the 'Limit EXP' draconian option).
Also, how much time did you need to spend to farm crafting mats, as you can't buy them?

Healing items aren't that important most of the time since 3 of the party members have good healing capabilities (and some of the other characters like the Hero have some healing).
As far as time spent farming materials, I don't feel like it's that much. You gotta fight some enemies anyway to keep your LVs up so I just try to make sure that when I fight enemies it's with a purpose.

Well, I know when I was playing in the demo I tried not to use healing from spells unless in combat (or if I ran out of herbs). Otherwise my MP will run out before I reach the boss. So that is why I started carrying the herbs.
But I know in my experience I am early in the game and maybe running out of MP doesn't become as much as an issue later on and you can heal more readily.

All the casters have easy ways to regenerate MP in combat, and there's no shortage of items that'll restore it (but even those end up being fairly pointless in the long term).

I was going to say, healing items are basically useless once you have a healing spell or two. I don't think I've used a healing item at all in my last 30/40 hours of play time. Even the MP healing items aren't great, I always keep a couple on hand heading in to a boss fight but haven't had to use one yet. If you run out of MP you're probably underleveled.
One of the DQ5 missions makes it clear that everyone, except Jade, is totally fine marrying you. Serena and Sylv even make it seem like they've been dreaming of it
So just don't marry your older sister and you're okay, I guess

Just finished the character stories. Gotta say, didn't enjoy. With Harder Monsters, was not fun. Had to retry Erik and Rab had me so pissed when it finally ended, considering I'd never really used him. And then Act 2 actually started and I was smiling again.

Kingsbarrow? I would get a bit into the dungeon, have to heal up after every combat and quickly drain my MP. I actually had to make several runs through this dungeon before I was strong enough to defeat it, finally buying up tons of herbs (didn't use all of them, but bought a bunch so I would use them instead of using MP).
It's been awhile since I've played the demo, but I think I was around level 7 or 8 when I first started to go through it, and then ended up around 9 or 10 when I finished. On Stronger Monsters, btw. But there was no way I had enough MP to heal myself and Erik to get to the boss, and then have MP to use on the boss fight itself. Therefore, the herbs.
I used herbs early on before my Hero gained Heal. Also, as I mentioned above, I used them in an early dungeon instead of using MP (to save for boss fight).
I appreciate everyone whom has given input so far, but what other people's take on 'No shops'?
I always thought that Jade was supposed to end up with Hendrick. But I'll probably choose her anyway when the time comes ... she's the best character in the game
I think the way it worded in that question is just devs trying to be not explicit about gay relationship. Because the question's PS4 version counterpart was clearly about marriage.
I cried so much. I mean, they killed her in a cutscene which kind of sucks, but it makes a lot of sense that the only way the group didn't die on the World Tree was because of her sacrifice. I'll miss you pipsqueak!
I have stronger monsters on, I just got Sylvando. Should I swap someone out for him now? He seems like he could be a good healer but lacks Serena's ability right now, and could maybe also fit in Erik's spot. Should I wait until he gets the good healing stuff? His healing utility seems weak right now.

That was such a great sequence. I'm glad it lets you do it over again with everyone so you can see what they all say.
Also re: Jade-
it really doesn't make sense that she sees herself as Eleven's older sister. She knew him for about a day when he was a baby and then never saw him again until the events of the game. It makes even less sense for Eleven to feel weird about it when he was only a baby at the time so he certainly can't remember the time she spent with him.
I maintain their marriage would be a kick-ass political alliance and do a fantastic job bringing long term unity and peace to Erdrea.
