Richard thinks it was "bad" that Sony didn't announce a price, and that it's because it's "bad news".
well the "bad news" that its going to be expensive probably, as that recent Jim interview also seems to indicate from his words

Or they're just waiting for MS to disclose their price first then adjust accordingly. This strat makes the most sense IMO because MS was probably expecting a Sony price announcement from this showcase.well the "bad news" that its going to be expensive probably, as that recent Jim interview also seems to indicate from his words

You can't do the sort of content they do without seemingly pleasing console warriors. It's something that John has commented on before. He's not a fan of it that's why he does the retro/indy vids.
It's the actual press conference and they just talk over it. So more actual post show reactions. They seem to think the disc slot is an afterthought given how the digital version is symmetrical, and that unless Sony take a massive loss removing the drive will only save about $30 in value for them
that's always gonna be the first thing to go. now they can better IQ while retain stable performance. it's just not worth going 4KSaid it in the main thread, but I hope at least most of these games end up have a locked resolution. I know having a variable and even a lower resolution is better for raw performance, but I'd rather that particular thing not be compromised
Even after all this time. That man is emperor of the trolls.
On the technical side, most things are 4K native, 30fps. They seemed pleasantly surprised to see ray tracing mixed in at that resolution across a number of titles, sounds like that was a surprise. Horizon and Ratchet seemed to be particular highlights for them. Among the indie games, Stray and Kena got some love.
Then why even bother with new systems if you dont want devs to use it the way they want too?
There are other things to improve on. 1440p with cbr is good enoughThey why even bother with new systems if you dont want devs to use it the way they want too?
What kind of magic is this.....So according to them, Ratchet is native 4K. 30fps. Ray tracing on the floor in that area others noticed, although with seemingly a partial bvh.
Stray is also native 4K, with some RT usage. 30fps I think?
Returnal is native 4K, no mention of framerate.
Sackboy's Big Adventure - sub-4K, 60fps.
Destruction Allstars - 'mostly' native 4K, with the odd 1080p shot thrown in. 'Maybe 30fps', don't seem very sure.
Kena - native 4K
...and I'll watch the rest later ;)
At the least I hope they offer "performance modes" that have a lower res, i.e 1440p, in exchange for higher framerates and/or better effects. There are other things to improve on. 1440p with cbr is good enough
Not sure how I feel about this. I think reconstructed could look awesome at those types of resolutions but that's probably what we'll be seeing as we progress down the road.
they probably aren't using all the fancy features. or are cross gen
Native 4K at 30fps with a mix of RT is more than I thought we'd get to be honest. I was honestly expecting 1440p reconstructed to 4K at 30fps and no RT. RDNA2 must be quite the hefty improvement over RDNA1 for a 10.28 TF GPU to pull this off.
