To be fair, almost all of those character notes rang true for me and I've only played the games, never read any of the books. So I don't think the games only explore the characters at the surface level. Her interpretation of Yen is pretty much EXACTLY what I got out of that character, especially after having Geralt turn her down during the Last Wish quest.

Which I suppose is just a sign of how well-formed all of these characters really are.

The games do a wonderful job with the characters, but they're inevitably different due to the time and place the games are set in. Ciri is much more grown up in the 3rd game, and Triss is overall a pretty different take on the character (Even when comparing how she's portrayed between the 3 games).

What I meant more is that it took quite the commitment in the game to get to the root of the characters, whereas it's much more immediately evident in the book (Primarily due to being literally spelled out for you) so I think some aspects may be known to the masses who didn't play all 3 games or even finish the latest most popular entry

I have not read the books, only the games and I'm all in for this. Only thing I'm sceptical on is the Dandelion name because from what I see Jaskier is his name in the original Polish and it means Buttercup and when it was translated to English the name was changed to Dandelion to keep the flower name (which seems to have been done in other languages too. Keeping the flower name I mane) but make it less feminine (though it's still a pretty name).

I don't want his name to be Jaskier if this will be English because then you lose out on this flamboyant and pretty bard having a flowery name to go with his flowery prose. If it's going to be acted in Polish though and subtitled in English then by all means, though still add his flowery name in the subs.

I confused Roach and Roche, and was confused why the description sounded like a woman. Thought they were making Roche a woman in the show.

Though now it doesn't seem like Roche is in it at all.
I'm sure Roche would make a fine steed. They should totally bring in some video game dudes for Geralt to ride.

The video games are extremely loose adaptations, each to varying degree. They've gotten better by the third game, but honestly Yennefer is the only main cast character who matches their original characterization.
Video Game Triss is by far the worst and is a completely different character. Hell, she already managed to be at least two different characters in the video game series.

Jaskier is masculine word, so Dandelion was a pretty good choice.
I agree completely, his stage name needs to mean something to the show's primary audience.

I loved the books and this sounds really good. Can't wait to see my boy Regis in action.

Nah that's absolutely the worst. It's really jarring when names don't match with the subtitles even when you don't understand the source language.

Not sure why this was posted on gaming side, the series has nothing to do with the games.

Also, those characters being already developed kind of confirms that they're just going to skip the short stories and head straight into the Saga. I actually find it odd that she already mentions Leo Bonhart and Regis though, since they don't show up until book 4. Either they're adding a lot of extra scenes concerning those characters or they're really going to race through those first three books (which I really, really hope they won't do).

Eat it Triss fans, below Dandelion in the billing. Where she should be, nothing but it a bit part player.

#TeamYennefer
To be honest, Triss is actually a pretty minor character in the books. She has an off-screen romance with Geralt and two or three important scenes and that's about it as far as she is concerned. The only reason she became a major character in the games was because for whatever reason CD Projekt RED didn't want to use Yennefer in the first game.

I don't know she mentions Borch Three Jackdaws and Essi as well so they will at least do some of the short stories

Shame on the game only Witcher casuals. Read some books!

What's the timeline though? We talking kid/teen Ciri from the books or adult Ciri from the games?
Also, Charles Dance for Emhyr please! Basically Tywin all over again

Huh, she actually does. And she also mentions Angouleme, who shows up even later than both Regis and Leo Bonhart.

I'm very confused as to what the pacing of this first season is supposed to be.

EDIT: Wait, she has only written the pilot so far, so these short character bio's are all for the pilot? What?

I think she's just permanently hyped about all things Witcher. This thread's title is a little presumptuous considering she isn't even allowed to say which books the show is going to cover.

It's actually not official bio's. She recently finished reading novels in preparation for writing a script of pilot and was asked to describe her own impression of the characters in five words. I'm pretty sure that the TV series will introduce a lot of this characters in later seasons. I remember reading somewhere that the deal between them and Netflix was signed for multiple seasons.

Roche is a CDPR-created character, so he likely won't show up for a while, if ever. I would imagine we won't see Dijkstra either.

but Dijkstra is a book character!

EDIT: Already said multiple times. That's what happens for being 2LATE2THEPARTY :(

EDIT 2: Can't wait for Thanedd. God that part was fucking amazing in the books.

Thanedd was amazing, I can't wait for viewers reaction for that event, I'm interested how they handle Toussaint and Emhyr reveal, but that will probably be in a final season or something.

They better cast the most beautiful woman in the world as Yennefer.
Jennifer Connelly could pull of the mess that is Yen pretty well i think. Has the datk hair already too.

If the do touch on Foltest and his daughter, give me Colm Feore as Foltest. Im saying this based on Witcher2 and not the books, but i thought the game character was modelled on him there, and he's done blowhard leaders that die in the past (Chronicles of Riddick).

I really need to finish reading the final book to see just where things end up prior to the first game.

Wait... Leo Bonhart? Are they really going to do the Rats plotline? That's some insanely dark stuff to adapt to TV, the sheer amount of sexual abuse teenaged Ciri sustains is pretty sickening, and I can't see the whole "Ciri routinely develops feelings for men and women who rape/molest her" thing going over well with viewers.

In the wake of Game of Thrones, I imagine it will be heavily toned down.

She did a great job as Joi in Blade Runner.

Worth noting that these characters are NOT confirmed to be in the Netflix series. It's just how she imagines them after reading about them etc. Can't find the tweet but I'm 20000% sure she replied to someone saying the only confirmed and official thing is that Geralt is a man.

i mean, in the books, Yen comes from an abusive childhood, hunchback-turned-sorceress and has been alive for 94 years so yeah she's bitter and jaded.
