Better question is who will they get to play Ciri, she's so adorable in The Witcher 3.
Is this adapting the books and not that games? My hype just went down considerably.
The downside with Amazon is that they don't always put their movies up on Prime. At least not in europe. There's a lot of trash in their movie section at least. Like some real stinking abominations.
I think Amazon is generally putting out higher quality TV and movies myself.
Nope
Why? It's the same characters, and the short stories are incredibly good. Would translate much better to a tv series than the games would. Seems you might just want The Witcher 4..?Is this adapting the books and not that games? My hype just went down considerably.
The games are already very cinematic, makes more sense to adapt story than to replicate what is already an audiovisual work.Is this adapting the books and not that games? My hype just went down considerably.
That might be the most annoying way of writing I've ever come across.
Oh that's odd. I think everything is on Prime in the USA.The downside with Amazon is that they don't always put their movies up on Prime. At least not in europe.
I mean, the covers of his books now literally look like covers for the games, and he's supposedly badgered constantly by dipshits who think he writes tie-ins instead of being the original source material. He could be about a thousand times less egotistical than he is, but I could see why that might annoy an author. This could be very tricky to pull. Not only with licensing (they only have licence for Sapkowski's books, the stuff included in games are CDPR property), but there is the other elephant in the room. Considering that author of novels was hired as a consultant, it's hard to say if he even agree to doing this in the first place. Mildly speaking, he has some "mixed" opinion about the fact that The Witcher is more known as a gaming franchise and is not generally associated as a product based on novels. His final book that was released few years ago - Season of Storms altered ending in a way that is harder to connect his story with games. I don't know if they would even do that thing in the series (I personally wasn't a fan of that novel), but Geralt was in a completely different place than he was at the end of The Witcher 3.
The triple-whammy of Bright, Cloverfield, and Mute is definitely a bad look for Netflix. But let's not forgot that they just put out Mudbound, which is considered one of the best films of last year. Gerald's Game and Okja are both fantastic and relatively recent too. Generally though, I do agree that Amazon reigns supreme in the film side of things. I prefer Amazon's release model too. Would've been nice to at least have the option of seeing Okja in a theatre.
I'm concerned that this seems to be taking place in the game's timeline rather than the books. Triss' inclusion seems to give that away. The games are wonderful, but the overall arc of the story is much looser and it isn't the best entrypoint for the story.
Is this adapting the books and not that games? My hype just went down considerably.
Is she the showrunner? Because if so, that's pretty freaking awesome. Seems like she knows her stuff. And I'd really rather have Yen and Triss be written by a woman.
Better question is who will they get to play Ciri, she's so adorable in The Witcher 3.
The games take place after the books, so the books are a logical starting point. If the show is a hit, they could always try to acquire the rights from CD Projekt. Is this adapting the books and not that games? My hype just went down considerably.
How to tell someone didn't play the games or read the books^^^
Yesss. Thank you. Love to see more women in these roles.
That's fair I guess. Maybe Amazon appeals to my tastes more in terms of series.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is probably the hit show right now from them.
They have other shows with pretty good reception like Goliath, The Man in the High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle, Red Oaks, Transparent and a few others.
The movies they've picked up for distribution have been where they shine pretty well though. Manchester by the Sea, The Salesman, The Big Sick, The Lost City of Z, The Handmaiden, Last Flag Flying and Paterson come to mind.
Maybe the Cloverfield mess is coloring my perception of the difference between them, but Amazon seems to have had the smarts to pick up some pretty good stuff.
I honestly don't think it would be type casting. She's really talented and I'd rather see a talented young actor in the role than a ho-hum newcomer.
I could have sworn she had some fire stuff in the books or did something like that in the games. Of course, I also remember her getting the shits and training Ciri at Kaer Morhen in one of the books, lol.Yeah, about that.... She's generally known for casting ice spells.
Edit: aaand given her backstory, associating her with fire seems, let's say, a tiny bit inappropriate.
Oof. Thanks for this. Wouldn't have read his description otherwise. Can someone edit the OP post to say that JASKIER = Dandellion for the game only crowd?
I feel like the short stories are better than anything else.
Sapkowski said in an interview that he isn't and doesn't want to be involved with the making of the show, which makes that consultant credit sound like a formality. This could be very tricky to pull. Not only with licensing (they only have licence for Sapkowski's books, the stuff included in games are CDPR property), but there is the other elephant in the room. The games turned her into a full-time pyromancer, which strikes me as a rather tone-deaf way to adapt a character who was traumatized by the burns she suffered in a devastating battle that defined her personality.I could have sworn she had some fire stuff in the books or did something like that in the games. Of course, I also remember her getting the shits and training Ciri at Kaer Morhen in one of the books, lol.
I confused Roach and Roche, and was confused why the description sounded like a woman. Thought they were making Roche a woman in the show.
Though now it doesn't seem like Roche is in it at all.
What has Amazon done that's great? Genuinely curious because I don't know of anything besides Transparent that's great from them but I only sub to them intermittently.
Roche is a CDPR-created character, so he likely won't show up for a while, if ever. I would imagine we won't see Dijkstra either.
Wow it really sounds like she gets the characters, and not the surface level we see in the games but the in-depth aspect from the books. Sure sounds like she's a fan of the original work and is doing her best to translate them faithfully to the big screen.
Having read the entire series reading through the character list reminds of so many key scenes and brings back emotions of such tumultuous events. I can't wait, but fear the confusion the masses will inevitably have at the differences from the game.
