The art in Kindly Ones clicked for me in that issue where the woman had a breakdown. Felt like it was perfectly suited for that. Didn't mind it sll that much in the other issues

I meant the Batman Detective Comics and and HQ #1. I got the names mixed up.

I hope they are as good as the FS ones. They shouldn't have made FS a limited series.

They're continuing the world in a series called Future State: Gotham, and there's already a Next Batman digital comic, but the Dark Detective team are both moving to the contemporary-set Detective Comics from this week.

Is Raven really that popular though?
Gamora has become well known due to the movies.
Absolutely, but it depends on the audience of the USA Today's voting group. Teen Titans cartoon, Teen Titans Go, Titans tv series, plus the 2010s animated films have all maintained Raven's popularity. The Raven DC Ink graphic novel was a best seller. Raven is easily one of the most popular Teen Titans, I'd argue.

Gamora is much more recognizable to an audience that is only really familiar with movies and mainstream media, however. And probably reads USA Today. And probably spends time on Facebook a lot, I'm guessing.

Im seriously hoping DC does a Future State omnibus. That was such an awesome series. Remember Convergence? And Future's End lol? Future State could have been so much worse.

I love that they are continuing some of the stories with FS: Gotham. But isnt the current Batman on-going and Detective heading towards like what lead up to Future State becoming a thing in Gotham?

I guess Raven has been in a lot of animated adaptions over the years.
I've never really been into the Teen Titans, so I guess she's kinda off my radar.

Also its super weird to think of Gamora as a well known, popular character for the masses lol, when I think about it.

I mean Loki beat Robin, which is a thing in and of itself. Like, Loki's obviously super popular as a character even within the comics, but moreso outside of them because of Tom Hiddleston and now the upcoming Disney+ show.

Consider though, how popular Robin used to be as a character (or rather a concept) compared to now. Batman The Animated Series had Dick and Tim. Teen Titans (2003) had Dick. Robin was in the Batman movies (though yes that was at what was arguably the downfall of superhero movies). Robin had a solo for 100+ issues! Robin was viewed as a smart ass kid who wanted to be a superhero and a competent leader and fight bad guys along side, or even better than Batman. Back in the Gold and Silver Ages he was the sidekick.

Consider nowadays Robin is a vision of getting messed up. Teen Titans GO! Robin is a dick (hilarious though). Titans barely has Robin. It's Dick as Dick Grayson, because when he does put on the Robin costume he says "fuck Batman" and grinds people's faces off against brick walls and drives shurikens through their eyes. Or you have Jason Todd in Titans who's a completely unhinged psychopath whose an ode to the unchallenged indulgences of youth, and when he's not that he's a scapegoated trauma victim. Then you have Damien in the movies, and he's quite frankly just an asshat. The first movie he shows up in is "Batman vs Robin!" We're finally getting a Robin solo series, and even then it's Damien doing his own thing away from everyone else.

That Teen Titans show sounds absolutely awful.
Dick Grayson grinding peoples faces off?
I can't imagine anything less true to the character.
Disgusting.

The FS Gotham big bad is getting it's origins now, but they're not gonna have them hang around for years till Gotham gets neon signs everywhere in real time and we're in FS for real.

I dont think theres any chance of that.

It's fucking wild how things have changed. Consider the difference between these two ads:
2000s ad
marvel.0.jpg

2010s ad
81DGFwaPPBL._AC_SL1194_.jpg

You may notice some differences lol. The MCU completely changed the perception of a lot of these characters, and so did the DCEU to be fair. I remember when Marvel was known as the dark and realistic one and DC was the bright and fantastical one. Now the perception has switched, no doubt in part due to Batman completely outstripping the rest of DC popularity wise while the Marvel Universe as a whole has been elevated.

No X-men or FF in that second pic either.

Thank the gods we have left Marvel's cutting off the nose to spite the face period.

But DC still have no idea how to elevate or market most of their characters that aren't Batman.

I'll give Spider-Woman this: They're one of the better comics when it comes to showing fight scenes. And it showed in full display in the latest issue. It's too bad that the current arc just doesn't have much bite into it. At least it's over and done with with the character intact (it looked like Carol would abandon her, but she's sticking around, keeping her best trait).

NIghtwing... oh man I'm so picking this up. There are few comic runs that has had such a great debut with everything landing. From the animation to the character work and bringing intrigue into the new storylines. I just can't wait to see where this goes.

List:
Harley Quinn #1
Power Rangers #5
Usagi Yojimbo #17

This reminds me I still have Sandman:Overture to read. I read the first issue when I bought the hardcover after it first came out but aside from the beautiful art it's been years since I finished the series and I can't remember anything.
Overture is good, not as good as the original imo but still good

You should also read Animal Man up to that point. It's an amazing disturbing comic.

Edit: Its skipping #13-16? That sucks. It was a whole back and forth crossover.
Maybe ST didn't appear in those issues.

I don't think Sean Chen's art on Busiek's Iron Man would have the same impact without Liquid!'s colors and definitely not without Parsons & Cannon's inks. There really is something about the inking that lands it in this omni.

Started reading Dan Slott's Silver Surfer.

This is charmingly fun stuff. I feel like its invoking the spirit of Kirby with its wacky, high concept adventures.
The Allred art is a treat also.

I've always been a Marvel person and know very little about DC except for what I've absorbed through film and TV shows. Well I got myself a little stimulus treat and subbed to DC Universe Infinite for a year to go through the back catalog. I'm starting with Crisis on Infinite Earths. There are probably better stories and event to kick off with, but I'm very aware of it, and it's so foundational. Very excited about what lies ahead. Any recommendations of great stories would be appreciated. Sky's the limit.

I guess it depends which characters you are interested in. If you have any in mind I can probably come up with a few suggestions.

For series that focuses on the DCU as a whole though I can't recommend the book '52' enough.
It explores a lot of the DCUs lesser popular characters and is a good exploration of the world itself.

I'm really a blank slate. I'm familiar enough with all the big characters but willing to go deep. Whatever someone's fave is, I'll give it a shot.
I'll check out 52, thanks!

For Batman perhaps start with the Jeff Loeb/Tim Sale story 'The Long Halloween' followed by its sequel 'Dark Victory'.

For Green Lantern you won't go far wrong starting with the Geoff Johns miniseries from 2004, 'Green Lantern Rebirth'. Which then spun out into two excellent long running titles, 'Green Lantern' and,' Green Lantern Corps'.

- Stuff like Watchmen, Batman: Year One and Dark Knight Returns are a given and you've probably already read that
- I don't know if Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is on there, but if it is you should make that top priority. Same with other Vertigo series like Sandman, but maybe you just want cape stuff.
- More Batman: Snyder's Black Mirror and his run that starts with Court of Owls. Morrison's is also great but you'll probably have to check a reading list for that. It also deep dives into Bat's history, but I had fun looking some of that stuff up.
- Geoff Johns' Aquaman and his Shazam! miniseries for New 52 (short but really good and funny)
- Grant Morrison's Animal Man
- For some high action with great art I enjoyed Darkseid War. I think you have to read Trinity War and Forever Evil as buildup to that, but that was one of the rare events that was a blast to read for me, especially with the art popping on iPad pro.
- Kingdom Come + The New Frontier for ensemble stories
- All Star Superman: one of my favorites. 12 issues that capture the essence of Superman. If you're not a big fan of Supes, you might be after reading this, or...
- Superman for all Seasons: one of the few truly great series Jeph Loeb has written. Usually his Batman series get all the attention but I was never that big on them. For All Seasons is a lot better imo.
- Superman Secret Identity (Buseik)
- If you want more Morrison craziness there's his Seven Soldiers => Final Crisis and then Multiversity. Been a while since I read that entire saga but it does introduce you to a lot of lesser known corners of the DC Universe.
