I've always been a Marvel person and know very little about DC except for what I've absorbed through film and TV shows. Well I got myself a little stimulus treat and subbed to DC Universe Infinite for a year to go through the back catalog. I'm starting with Crisis on Infinite Earths. There are probably better stories and event to kick off with, but I'm very aware of it, and it's so foundational. Very excited about what lies ahead. Any recommendations of great stories would be appreciated. Sky's the limit.
- Stuff like Watchmen, Batman: Year One and Dark Knight Returns are a given and you've probably already read that
- I don't know if Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is on there, but if it is you should make that top priority. Same with other Vertigo series like Sandman, but maybe you just want cape stuff.
- More Batman: Snyder's Black Mirror and his run that starts with Court of Owls. Morrison's is also great but you'll probably have to check a reading list for that. It also deep dives into Bat's history, but I had fun looking some of that stuff up.
- Geoff Johns' Aquaman and his Shazam! miniseries for New 52 (short but really good and funny)
- Grant Morrison's Animal Man
- For some high action with great art I enjoyed Darkseid War. I think you have to read Trinity War and Forever Evil as buildup to that, but that was one of the rare events that was a blast to read for me, especially with the art popping on iPad pro.
- Kingdom Come + The New Frontier for ensemble stories
- All Star Superman: one of my favorites. 12 issues that capture the essence of Superman. If you're not a big fan of Supes, you might be after reading this, or...
- Superman for all Seasons: one of the few truly great series Jeph Loeb has written. Usually his Batman series get all the attention but I was never that big on them. For All Seasons is a lot better imo.
- Superman Secret Identity (Buseik)
- If you want more Morrison craziness there's his Seven Soldiers => Final Crisis and then Multiversity. Been a while since I read that entire saga but it does introduce you to a lot of lesser known corners of the DC Universe.
