A lot of these read like the changes made in Remastered vanilla, as opposed to additional stuff added on top.

Well knowing Ubi and they support their games, I imagine that they will continue working out the issues.

Can season pass holders preload on Xbox yet?

I don't think there's any preloading on consoles, but I saw someone say you can switch your system's region to be able to download it. Gonna try it in a sec.

Glad to see they're taking support for the remaster as seriously as their new games, Ubi's support has been peerless this gen.

I'll wait until it's a few patches in before I jump in.
I'd question why such a big patch is coming after going to print instead of delaying print until the patch was ready.

We didn't even have a full date for this until a few weeks ago.

Oh snap, didn't realize I would get this with the Odyssey season pass. Will have to check it out at some point, I enjoyed AC III although I felt the beginning was a little slow.

Here are the steps for switching the Xbox's region to download the game early, in case anyone wants to do it. I'm downloading it now.

  1. On your Xbox One, open the Settings app.
  2. Choose System, and select "Language & location".
  3. On the Location dropdown, choose New Zealand. Then, select "Restart now" on the right side of the screen.
  4. When your Xbox One powers back on, go to My Games & Apps. Under your Ready to Install list, you should see Assassin's Creed III Remastered as long as you already own the season pass for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
  5. Download the game. Once it's finished downloading, you can go back into Settings and change your location back to normal.
It's a 44.59GB download at the moment. Looks like it'll be ready to start a little before halfway through the download, not sure which game is playable first though.

The Xbox One version becomes playable at 16.10 GB. At that point, it lets you start to play AC3. Not sure about Liberation.

EDIT: Ah, I missed the old Assassin's Creed:

Also, have a screenshot.

It's up on the PlayStation Store in Europe. 65GB somehow, 23.4GB needed to start. For whatever reason I needed to begin the download on PS4, probably this was just the web store being a bit slow to update.

Steam say it's playable, uplay think it's not.

Come one guys, decide it already.

EDIT: Just looked on Ubi website and it seems it unlocks at 5 pm UTC on the 29th, so it seems it was Steam who jumped the gun. But even if it allows me to play it, uplay will not, so it doesn't matter anyway.

I'm a few hours in (just about done with all of Haytham's missions) and really liking the changes. The weapon wheel is no longer a separate screen (it just overlays on the game and pauses it), and aside from a few cutscenes where the faces look off, the visuals are much better than the original. I wish they'd added a photo mode, it could really use it.

Hopefully Digital Foundry will do an analysis on this soon!

I can't decide if I should play this or Tales From the Borderlands next, but I'm leaning towards this. Got it downloaded and ready when I get home from work.

I don't know if this is useful information to anyone but the game wouldn't start properly for me even after the PS4 classed it as "playable". The menus loaded and I could select between ACIII and Liberation, but ACIII stopped booting after showing the Ubisoft logo, standard AC disclaimer, and the title splash. After that it was just a completely black screen.

I left it downloading and tried again this morning, and now it seems to work properly. So if anyone gets the same thing, solution appears to be to wait until more of the game is downloaded (perhaps the entire thing).

Managed to play sequence 1 on the XB1 while it was about 75% done.

After that it put up a screen telling me to come back when it was finished.

Took a look at some footage and the dreaded fog to mask poor draw distance is gone. The forests will look much nicer now. I think they may have gone slightly overboard on adding brightness and color - it made sense that world would be muted and dreary - but it's probably for the better anyway.

Just fix the damn faces and I'm in

God, my play history with AC is such a mess:

  • AC1 completed
  • AC2 completed
  • AC:Blo completed
  • AC:Bro completed, never touched the Davinci DLC
  • AC:Rev started, never finished
  • AC3 own it, never started
  • AC:BF and Freedom Cry Completed
  • AC:Rog own it, never started
  • AC:L HD own it, never started
  • AC:U almost finished the campaign, finished DLC
  • AC:S own it, never started
  • AC:Ori completed it and it's DLC
  • AC:Ezio completed 2 again, started Brotherhood, still have to do Revelations
  • AC:Odd completed it and all DLC so far
Now starting 3, while juggling Far Cry and Odyssey's DLC

You don't have to switch your region to download early. When it turned midnight las night I just went to the store and downloaded it.

Started Liberation HD and, damn, it is so weird going back to the old style of AC gameplay after playing Odyssey and Origins for so long. Movement, the camera, combat, etc all feel a lot more stiff and the game in general is much slower-paced than I remembered. Liberation itself is definitely showing its Vita origins even after the upgrade they did for the last-gen release.

Now I have to wait for the Switch version while everybody has the time of their lives :(

Yeah, I literally own the game already (got AC:O's season pass on XB1X) but I don't want to play it because I'd much rather see how the Switch release turns out. Having to wait nearly 2 months after release is just ridiculous, there's really no excuse for it this late into the console's lifespan.

Just heads up that the odyssey Season pass is only £24 on PSN. It's cheaper than Ass III on its own and you get both games (ass III, liberation) and the expansion to odyssey itself.

I think the game, as a whole, looks much better with the remaster. The lighting is way better and I prefer the vivid colors to the darker tone of the original. I will say the faces are a missed opportunity and may even look worse than they did in 2012.

This is just about the only AC game I haven't played, because it got awful reviews from fans. But, I'm going to give this game a go

Definitely the most divisive AC game but I personally loved it back in 2012. I am looking forward to playing it again in 60fps 1440p. If you're a fan of the colonial setting then you'll like it, the traversal in the forests where some of my favorite parts too.

Especially with the Switch being the success it is. It really doesn't make sense.

Uh. Don't tell me you have some inside knowledge that it's a poor switch port or something oh god.
