RIP, we just watched the 2022 Downton Abbey movie recently which featured her kinda prominently in the story line in an interesting way. She was great as always!!

RIP she was absolutely wonderful

I still laugh at how she said she had never watched Downton Abbey and she wouldn't start because she'd probably die before she finished

She's outstanding and she will be missed dearly. I don't know if anyone in Harry Potter was more appropriately cast than her as McGonnagal. I don't think anyone could completely bring the character to life like she did. Outstanding actress.

No way I just saw the news at the gym and couldn't believe it since I just browsed Resetera and I figured there'd be a thread. Looks like news just broke. She was magnificent for many decades, and will be missed. RIP

Really sad news. I have a real admiration for that generation of British actors (Smith, McKellan, Dench, etc.) They are not only immensely talented but all have/had a charming personality and sense of humour, untouched by fame in a way you don't really see these days.

She was great.

Lol, I don't think a month goes by where either I say that to my wife, or she says it to me.

Dammit, this sucks.

Also, I didn't know until I saw this that Toby Stephens (Black Sails) was her son.

RIP

That's a big loss. She was terrific in basically everything she did. I remember thinking she was already in her 80s for longer than I care to admit because of her great portrayal of an older Wendy in Hook.

Have to think they'll make a third Downton movie just so that audiences can say their official goodbyes to her and the character and put a final capstone on the series.

RIP to a legend. Huge Downton and HP fan here, hated to even text my wife about it.
Just insane screen presence. Always left an impact, always commanded attention.

One of the true greats. I absolutely hate to hear this, but she lived a very accomplished and long life that few others have.

RIP.

They're already making a third Downton movie. And her character passed away at end of the second film.
