Devil May Cry 4 made all other combat systems less enjoyable and since I played it before any GoW it made GoW 3 a slog to play. GoW 2018 is the best combat system the series has had but DMC and Bayonetta series are just on a different level. Haven't played Nioh tho.

RDR1, TLOU, MGSV. They made me stop gaming for a while.
I sold my PS4 after MGSV because I didn't believe I would see anything as good in the short term.

Not starting wars or anything but PC games at 100fps and more have ruined pretty much any game that runs at 60fps or less.

La Mulana 2 killed most metroidvanias for me. They just don't compare. Legend of Grimrock 2 did similar for dungeoncrawly games.

It's just not the same when the challenge is only in combat and getting stats. That's why something like Nioh just bored me to tears. Dark Souls at least hast neat exploration going for it, but games just feel so lacking when it's just combat, no real puzzles.

Pillars of Eternity, finally, killed modern RPGs for me. Something like the Witcher series was just so terrible in comparison, so juvenile. But eh, modern RPGs like the Witcher or Dragon Age 2 haven't even managed to be equals to the Ultima series :/ It's kinda a shame how this genre just isn't getting somewhere, with few exceptions (like Pillars, Tyranny or Torment) that at least *try* to be more than combat gauntlets with a thin veneer of plot and male power fantasy to fill out the rest.

Metal Gear Solid 5 ruined gunplay in third-person shooters for me, specifically due to the gun customization. Sweet Christmas, the last game I played with customization that good was Army of Two: The 40th Day.

Why is good gun customization so hard to find?

The Trails series makes it very difficult to take other games' world building seriously for me.

The stealth gameplay and animations and sheer things you can do in MGSV really sets the bar for 3rd person action games. Just too bad the world was uninteresting. Maybe the cover system could have been a bit more "sticky" with a button press instead of leaning up against something, but other than that, the gameplay is so smooth.

BotW is so far ahead of other open world games, to the point I am convinced my dislikes of RDR2 are directly informed by my experiences in Zelda.

Paradox Studios (EU4, CK2, etc.) makes it really hard to go back to Civilization, as it makes Civ feel so simplistic.

Halo 3/Cod 4. No shooter since then had that quality in both sp/mp.

First BOTW and now RDR2, basically how open world games should be done

Forza Horizon Series. I just can't enjoy any other racing games after playing these.

Tomb Raider 2013/Rise ruined Uncharted a bit for me.

The superior combat, the focus on gameplay, exploration and RPG Lite mechanics over narrative. For me, they're the perfect Uncharted games.

Modern Warfare and any other game that was so successful it flooded the market with people trying to recreate it.

Into the Breach

... I am having a hard time playing another turn based strategy game without asking myself, "why am I not just playing ITB?"

The Crew 2 wasn't great to begin with, but man Forza Horizon 4 ate its lunch. Aside from being a better game, it launched the same week as The Crew's first expansion, and consistently delivers more in terms of live and new content.

XCOM:EU/XCOM 2 ruined pretty much all prior turn-based strategy/tactics games and a lot of games that released afterwards. They just set the bar so high in so many aspects that even if a game is very different, it's hard to not compare it to XCOM and find it potentially lacking in some ways.

Breath Of The Wild and Metal Gear Solid V have ruined open world games for me if they don't offer as much freedom to dick around (especially during missions).

Like I tried playing Assassins Creed Origins earlier this year and just found myself wanting to approach things like I did in BOTW.
That ruined it for me.

I'm also struggling with RDR2's sometimes very linear mission design because of this, but outside of missions the freedom is there.

Those are mine too, we can add RDR2 too.

RDR 2 ruined a lot of the open worlds for me. Not entire games, just the world part and the way you engage with activities.
Forza Horizon 4 totally ruined arcade racers for me. I actually enjoyed The Crew 2 but going back to it now is impossible.

Bloodborne kinda ruined The Witcher 3 for me.
I mean I still finished it and think it is one of the greatest achievements of this gen, but coming from Bloodborne gameplay wise was such a step down that prevented me to enjoy it more...

Halo 2 & 3's multiplayer was so good, it ruined the FPS PvP genre. Nothing has come close to that experince since.

Rune Factory 4 (and 3 to a lesser extent) makes all other farm-raising games look boring and quaint by comparison.

Harder for me to enjoy open world games since BotW. I don't want every open world game to be like it, and I'm glad these other kinds of open worlds exist, but BotW is my perfect open world ideal.

The Last of Us was a revelation for me. It sparked my passion for gaming after 6ish years. The problem was that nothing really hit that level of storytelling until The Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 ruined other open world games. other narrative driven games that rely on dialogue and cutscenes. Its basically best game ever made. Luckily RDR 2 comes close

BoTW.. every other open world game I've played after it felt like a huge downgrade, like they were a generation behind of it. Just the fact that you can almost climb anything to anywhere, the fact that you can leave the dungeon or whatever you were at in any moment.. and that you can actually go straight to where the final boss resides at any point.. and the physics, how the realistic part of it serve the game thoroughly and how you can interact with the world around you in many ways

Umineko.. ah, how could be 99% of games dialogues being so shity and meaningless like this lol

The Witcher 3 ruined the first quarter of 2017 for me. After I beat that game I couldn't finish Nioh, Yakuza, Zelda, or Horizon. I think the first game that I actually completed since Witcher 3 was God of War.

Any action/open world game that doesn't play like MGS5 is automatically inferior. More games need a grapple/takedown system like MGS5.

Sleeping Dogs is on that list as well, if not purely for the melee combat. If you're a realistic-ish action game, all mechanics should be a blend of Sleeping Dogs and MGS5.

I don't know if I'd say that any one game "ruined" others but I will say that getting into other open world games after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a bit tough with how how snappy the game is and the nice sense of flow it offers compared to the rest. Only certain open world games, like Spider-Man, are still fun enough to traverse for me to get into. That being said, I'm not typically into a lot of other open world games precisely because of their overall game feel so I'm not sure if Zelda had any impact on that
