Is this new ? I watched two different videos today that were a total of about 10 minutes each and every 90 seconds or so a new ad pops up for about the first 6 minutes .

Never saw it that excessive before.

I've seen it sometimes. Any time the progress bar is filled with yellow lines, I dip before even watching the video.

youtube has turned into such trash lately.

I remember when it was just simple videosite.

I close the video when his happens. It sends a message to the creator and YouTube.

Ublock Origin + Tampermonkey + Get Me Old Youtube Script + Youtube Center Script = What you should be using on a desktop

Youtube Vanced = What you should be using on Android based devices

I try not to use adblocker in general, on sites that I visit frequently and seem to be trustworthy, but the fact is that they're putting way too many ads in the videos now.

And a distressing number of them are unskippable. I'm thinking about turning it back on, because the content is becoming almost unwatchable.

And if I see one more political ad about the "liberal mob" I'm gonna lose it.

It is disturbing and way more frequent than before. Sometimes I wake up and I get a 20 seconds non skippable ad before my first video starts. Then more and more ads over and over again. And oh boy, they are good at repeating ads even if you say you dont like them because they are repeated. Seems like Googles AI is not used at all in any part of Youtube (video suggestions or ads)

I figured it was the video creator putting more ads in because they were getting less ad revenue now and are trying to make up the loss.

I'm hitting mute on 90% of my Youtube videos now the second it cuts to an ad. Want the channels I like to get some money but I am not putting up with any more PragerU shit.

Yup, YouTube is getting too much of the blame here.

I'm not going to tell people what to do, but personally if a creator/uploader has too many ads, I won't watch their stuff. Otherwise the odd 15 second ad to support them is a fair trade. I'm not owed anything.

Did YouTube change the rules? It was my understanding that it wouldn't play an ad until the 7 min mark, after the pre-roll

I am a content creator (p.s., I hate that term, but it explains things clearly, at least). This is 100% correct. I can put an ad anywhere in a video. The only ad I put is a skippable video ad at the beginning and end, but my videos tend to be an hour long, so I don't find that unreasonable. I never do mid-video ads. Those are seriously annoying.

More annoying is when they pop up when I cast them to TV... I have youtube premium but it seems like once or twice a day youtube 'forgets' and shows me ads anyways.

Seems they have been pushing ads harder than before. I've been getting more ads on my phone than when watching on the PS4 app. I could go 2 or maybe 3 videos on the PS4 before I get a ad and they don't have ads during the video.

Mid-video ads are so much more tolerable if the creator bakes in sensible ad breaks, rather than dropping them in mid-sentence. Weird that they don't make the thing that makes them money more seamless and easier to digest.

Are there any decent options for ad blocking YouTube on Android?
I know back in the rooting days there was an Xposed plug in I used, but I don't really bother rooting these days so ideally would love something that doesn't need root.

I don't get why ad quantity differs by device. When I watch something lengthy on my phone I get constant ads. If I watch the exact same video on PS4, there's only one in front.

For those on iOS I would recommend downloading the Firefox Focus browser. It has a built in ad blocker and it's what I use for YouTube in bed.

A video with 4 ads mid video on the YouTube app on my phone plays no ads on that browser.

And to make it worse, I keep getting hit with ads for PragerU's channel.

Not ok YouTube.

It's worse when an ad comes on like one minute before the video ends and I don't want to just exit the video so I have to wait just to finish it. Fuck. What kind of shitty algorithm do they use to determine when ads are placed because it makes no sense to put them in weird places. Just split the video into even chunks if the uploader hasn't set up specific breaks for them. Don't put one right after it starts and right before it ends. What the hell is wrong with you?

Just use YouTube (Ad)Vanced for Android, uBlock O. for browsers, and idk good luck with iOS without a jailbreak.

Internet ads are somehow worse than cable and network television.

Does youtube premium still have the glitch that doesnt let you view youtube on more than 1 device at the same time? ie. you cant watch youtube on your phone if you already have it playing on your tv.

This.

But i'm quite sure you can't just put ads all over the place, but there has to be a minimum delay between each new ad.

I'm okay with it. It's literally just a 3 or so second wait until i can skip it. If it helps worthwhile(!) Youtubers keep their channel sustainable, it's a minor sacrifice - and still far less invasive than ads on Twitch; let alone broadcast TV :P

It's up by the video creator, when the video is 10 minutes long, they can place as many commercials as they want, where they want.

So when you have YouTuber with a lot of videos that goes exactly 10 minutes or 10:03 or similar, you know why now, not because the video needed it, but because of the money.

I watch less YouTube now because the ads are so fucking intense.

I feel like Twitch is eating the lunch money of a lot of YouTube channels, so in exchange they are just packing their videos out the ass with ads. Good job, now I rarely watch your videos.
