Wasn't it already confirmed that the Grinch renders weren't actually unreleased, just previously released renders that were missing or had non-descript added elements?

Cause that's what you're saying, they're deliberately lying to cover for Nintendo, which is basically saying they have no integrity
It could easily be explained away as an artistic choice. They're clearly willing to move characters around on the banner. Why not be willing to remove a castle if it looks better?
I'd put Isabelle as higher priority than Incineroar honestly. Isabelle is an extremely popular character, while Incineroar is a Pokemon rep, he's not particularly popular outside of being a starter.

Rool, Dark Samus, Chrom, Shadow and Banjo (maybe Daisy too, she seemed like an obvious Peach echo, although there certainly has been demand for her) are all most likely choices from the Smash Ballot. Possibly Isabelle and Inklings too, but they're both insanely popular either way.
Ken, Simon, Richter, Mach Rider and Chorus Kids are potentially just based on Sakurai's personal preferences.
Ryu was definitely not a Ballot choice and Ken always made sense as an Echo fighter.
Richter was definitely not recognized by most for his dual reveal with Simon.
Mach Rider to me feels as crazy as Duck Hunt duo. I doubt they would've been popular in the Smash Ballot. Or Chorus Kids for that matter, but they were cut from Smash 4 anyway.

Again, I have to ask, does it not seem suspicious that for all the big differences you could point out between the two, it's always that details have been removed in the leak without anything being added? Keep in mind that a lot of these details can't even be seen once the mural is covered in characters. I'm not saying that it's impossible that they went in and simply removed a select few major details without adding anything to it, but what reason would they have for that?

Literally only 4 of those characters are younger than 10 years old (and one of them is technically older than that).
I mean they wouldn't have to be. Beating the leaks to the punch has been something we've been theorizing, not a concrete fact.
It'd be weird to me if the final reveals were at an event rather than a dedicated Direct though.

Yeah, plans change during development all the time, and there's no real way to pinpoint how up to date leaked information is.
I can think of a few games in particular (Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 for one) where early leak roster lists had characters that didn't end up making the cut, but also had longshot characters that people absolutely didn't believe would be in the game until they were actually revealed.
Hypothetically those wirstbands can be used as confirmation in an event
