If Geno gets in to Smash I want YouTube documentaries and retrospectives that examine exactly how we got to the point where a one-off side-character from a 20 year old game became a fighter in Super Smash Bros.
I'll repeat myself, if we get any undertale representation in this game it will be music and that's it.
No, but that being said, I still don't see modern Square Enix revisiting Super Mario RPG when they have other IPs under their own control that are more recent and relevant. Especially with Nintendo having continued making Mario RPGs of their own for the past two decades without their involvement.

Bruh, Geno is a character from an actual Nintendo game that people have been asking for since the first game. *Anyone* can get in? Why weren't we saying that when Cloud was announced? This is just silly.
Outlets can post the footage when they choose. They played the game this week but it is up to them when they post it -- if they choose to at all.

I think it makes sense to be annoyed that some obscure character from a low selling not as historically important game so it's not like duck hunt game got in over pig ganon
Nah, Corrin was a result of FE being at its popularity peak at the time, promoting the new game as you said, and the Sakurai FE bias. I don't think there's any real reason to not bring Elma to Ultimate, aside from the "everyone is here" and "long-awaited characters" trends that the game seems to follow.
Look guys as a huge Geno fan, no hard feelings. He was just a cool character in my very first jrpg that still is one of my favorite jrpgs to this day. It's magical and Geno was part of that magic. When he's officially announced I hope you can all respect my joy.

What about if the creator of the game loves him and has wanted him in the last two versions? Is that popularity relatively good enough?
How obsessive do you have to be to deride roster additions just because it wasn't the one guy you wanted? Character slots aren't a predetermined, limited resource. Characters will either get in or not based on the development team's enthusiasm, legal realities, and marketing potential, not just because a character from a game recently released has fresh mind share. Sans wasn't robbed a slot because Isabelle got in.

And Sakurai also has a history of talking about characters he's wanted to include in past games, but didn't, and who after receiving a trophy never appeared in Smash again.

Well I think I'll take a break from discussing Geno for the millionth time because I can feel the downward spiral we're about to go into everytime he's brought up.

Sakurai has said that Geno is a popular request. Why do people ignore that and just keep saying he is only popular selectively?
No particular reason why Geno. I would be happy with any Mario RPG character, really.
My personal choice would be Vivian, just because she is a favorite of mine. But the community seems to have gathered around Geno for whatever reason, and I'd be happy if he made it in.
I just doubt that any questions about roster legitimacy are driven by actual pragmatism or concern.
They'd rather get other characters, as if slots are wasted or something.
Geno is without a doubt the "holy grail" of fan requests and is a huge contender for the final base roster fighter. I always felt him, Ridley and K. Rool were the big three. I won't be disappointed if he is absent, but it'd be incredibly cool to see him.
