Unfortunately, yes. No human NPCs to meet, side quests, main quests, etc. Just explore, and other human players will be exploring too. My worst nightmare. Couldn't come up with a less appealing Fallout concept.

Not sure where exactly you've read that there no quests in this game. It's actually the opposite, it will have more quests than Fallout 4 or 3 (or Vegas, for that matter).

The only people this game will appeal to are people who love Fallout's world. There is nothing to offer outside of that.

I do think they need to do a better job at corralling people to the public events.

Hopeful the dev team got some good information out of today's stress test and will put it to good use. I love the design of this game just needs some love on the technical side

My impression is that I was almost out of the vault but had to go eat. Came back, logged in, and it wanted me to create my character again. Closed the game and played some Assassins Creed

The biggest icon on the map (besides the excavator) is a building on the north side of the map that looks like a capitol building of some kind. I know what I want it to be (the Palace of Gold @ New Vrindaban) but if any of you have been to that location on the map in your short time with the game, I'd love for you to PM me and confirm or deny (I'll keep it to myself).

edit: it's WVU

Also, did any of you swing by Moundsville? I'd love to hear about the Penetentiary or the burial mound.

So is it worth purchasing it for the story mode if your not into online?

You're going to be online regardless. I think there may be 24 players to a server. Not too sure about the population max per server, but if it's that, you'll run into people once in awhile. You're going to eventually run into people. Whether the main quest funnels players into meeting or another quest does.

You are just making this up wtf lol

Yeah the shitposting has been unreal, and most of them aren't even playing.

Read the actual post before getting up in arms. The person is saying there are no NPCs, none for main quests, side quests etc. And that has been shown in the preview footage as qellasw Bethesda themselves saying there isn't.

That alone is my biggest worry, that removing life makes it dull if no player is around. And with how big the world is that's going to be a massive struggle.

They clearly said no main quest, no side quests, you're literally misquoting them lol

Nah, I'd rather have them commit the energy and big budget a proper sequel entails into Starfield / TES VI. Fallout was the ideal franchise for this spin-off/side game. The gameplay systems, flow and flexibility of the franchise are perfect for this evolving type of game as a service.

I was really, really disappointed when it was presented at E3. It kinda grew on me, and after playing it, I can say that it works and it does feel like a multiplayer Fallout game whilst still retaining rich lore pieces and wacky 50s era elements.

I adore Bethesda worlds, but for being able to immerse and lose myself in them. I couldn't get into ESO because of all the other players ruining that, and the "traditional" (read: needlessly shit) game design decisions that devs think are essential for online games like respawning mob packs that are glued to specific locations with no sense of purpose in the world other than being XP piñatas.

Hopefully, being on the normal Bethesda engine, there will come a day where they make this game playable offline and provide the player base with the mod tools their games usually come with. At that point, when I can really immserse myself in the world, not run into other players running and hopping around, and modders can add the NPCs and populated cities that the devs skimped out on, I'll be in. I'm sure I'll love the game then, but right now it looks like everything I don't want from a Bethesda game, and I say that as a huge fan of the settlement system and survival mechanics. The online focus kills it for me. Should always have been an online OPTION.

That was great! Me and the wife played in co-op to level seven and found power armour.
Yes it chugged on our X1Xs and it crashes the consoles when doing perk level five so much that the console switches off.

However both of us are pleased with the game and can't wait to play more.

Does anyone know how exactly are they handling server and player and stuff in the full version? It's still my biggest concern.
Is it still dynamic without real server you choose? If so, how will the game handle player houses?
I guess we will have the problem that in one minute you can see a huge player house, cause a player who owns it got added to your server, but it can be gone 5 minutes later if you run too far away and come back and the session changed.
What If I build a house at one specific spot and another one joins in who has a house on the exact same spot, what then? And how many houses can the game handle? Let's say you and your community intentionally builds 6 or 12 huge houses side by side, in different sessions and then all join together. Will the game crash? Will they just disappear? What happens?

I understand that some people are really pleased by the light survival and PVP aspect, maybe I will like that approach too, but what will bother me a lot and what will drive me insane will be the inconsistency of player houses and the constant appearing and disappearing of them, that will constantly tear me out of the game world and I can't think positive about that in any way. :/

All I know is that you bring your house with you when you go offline. It'll be 'repackaged' into your CAMP item. When you go online, you can place your house again, anywhere.

So you always have to place it again when you start the game? Man, that feels so weird. I'm really curious how limited this will be, probably even more limited as in Fallout 4 because what if I build a huge property let's say on a cliff and you build stairs that goes down the cliff.
How are you supposed to ever place that anywhere else?

I don't know why people are naturally so negative about this game, it's so draining.

So here's how it works - I tried it - you build a base. It stays there. You log off. You can log in later - I did 30 mins later - and it's still there. As long as nobody has built something in the same place it remains.

You can also take over workshops and build on those WITH other players

I'm just curious how they will handle this in such a situation with dynamic servers, I'm sorry that this is important for me. This immersive breaking thing, for me, is probably the biggest deciding factor between buying or not buying, personally, because building (and living) is one of the main aspects of the game.

I know, I get it - it's just so draining reading anything about Fallout 76 online because it becomes a huge wave of negativity. I shouldn't have pulled your post on that as it was legit question.

So when you log out, your CAMP goes with you. When you log back in, you reappear at same place - and as long as nobody else placed a CAMP there, your stuff respawns too.

Construction is fantastic by the way. They really went to town with it, there's a huge amount of extra items.

Is it better than in Fallout 4 with less limitations? I remember having huge problems back then with building the foundation (or walls and other parts) because sometimes I just couldn't connect some parts because something mysteriously was in the way. Or sometimes I just couldn't go deep enough with the foundation and the uneven floor to let it look good.
Was a huge pain in the ass.

Thanks for the correction, Gossi.

So I guess in some cases you'll have to put your house on another spot. Some spots would be more popular due to their view and/or utility.

Alright, time to ask the hard questions:

Can you emote in power armor?

So the map is absolutely huge. I mean seriously, it is massive. So you have plenty of space to find your spot.

By the way, the max is 24 players per 'world' (server) - I checked this myself by looking at the player count, it never exceeded 24 people. Because the map is so huge, you rarely see other players. I saw a bunch outside Vault 76, then ran off into the wilderness - after that, in 4 hours, I saw 2 people the entire time. That was also because I went back to the main quest eventually.

There is definitely a loss of a sense of community that other games have when you join a server and see the same people and same buildings and watch towns grow little by little. But I also dislike how in any of those games your work was tied to one server and when it died so did your progress. I just see it as everytime I log in I get to see different bases and that's kinda cool but the loss of persistence is definitely going to hurt some people who are used to having that.

If there aren't any strange limitations to that.

Do we know how much one person can build? How big the space can be and how many objects you can use? I hope it's at least as much it was in 4 and hopefully not less.

I prefer the persistence this game provides, in that my camp is always my camp. The stuff I build in my camp will always be there for me.

I like being able to move it around as well as being tied to the same spot forever would get boring.

Some guy on Reddit said the build limit is higher than in 4 but I dont know for sure. I was honestly expecting it to be smaller but hopefully not.

For sure. Means I will actually decorate instead of putting 50 thousand doors they have to break through to get to my stuff.

Can people loot things out of your camp once you've placed it somewhere?

I believe only stuff like fruits and veggies if you have a garden.

MOD EDIT: removed screencap

....whoever greenlighted this UI....

Also you don't even manually pick up quests sometimes they'll just pop up on your screen and you have to go in to your pipboy to deselect them

Those quest descriptions are giving me PTSD about Fallout 4.
