Are the standard dice rolls still 1-6?

That's probably why the boards have fewer spaces than the older roll 1-10 games.

--

I'm guessing you must play this with a joycon? I know someone who might be annoyed by this.

As someone who hates the joy con, it wasn't so bad since the games were either 1 button press or a shake. You don't really hold it as a controller

So from the sounds of it, Partner Party is a better realized version of Toad Scramble from Star Rush?

I can dig that.

Sound Stage just got a lot more fun once I discovered you can just lightly shake the Joy-Con instead of doing whatever inane motion the game shows on-screen. Once I started doing that I got perfects all around.

Someone please tell me the beach stage isn't essentially Mario Party 2's Mystery Land, please.

Impressions after one board:

I like this. It's like the old Mario Party, but different enough from them to have its own feel. The initial board did look kinda small at first but I think I'd only feel that way after repeated tries on that board. I usually do 20 turns of Mario Party with the old ones so I was surprised when this felt like it took a lot longer in comparison? Might just be me though.

I dunno about the ally thing. I liked it at first but by the end of the game it honestly seemed unfair that my brother got to go just about 10+ spaces every turn because he had 4 allies whereas I only got 1 the whole time. I still won in the end so you can work with it but it bums me out that there's a bonus Star involved with getting allies too.

Overall though, I'm glad to put my money where my mouth is when it comes to returning to old Mario Party. Excited to try more tomorrow.

We played together with my wife. Raft mode was fun, but the standard map not so much. With two players the downtime is atrocious and feels loke slog (and we choice 10 turn game!). Is there a way to fast forward cpu moves?

Maybe we played too many modern board games, but the roll and move mechanics is terrible.

Overall pretty fun. Some games especially are excellent for smaller kids, like various memory games. Now I need to buy another set of controllers the children :/

Did a simple 10 turn board and yeah, that's Mario Party, but super polished and streamlined. And I liked the pace.

I'll have fun with this alone until TWEWY comes out next week and then it'll just be that game I'll play when I have friends over.

About midway through my first game. Lots of nice little tweaks, the best of which is how practice is handled now.

Man these boards are hella sterile compared to Mario Party 10 though.

So you have to unlock all the minigames to play the single player mode? Understandable, but kinda sucks you have to wait so long for a mode directed for solo play.

I would have bought this if you could play it in handheld mode. I don't understand why Nintendo makes a hybrid console and then keep adding motion controls to everything which doesn't work well in handheld mode.

Can you play a board with only three players or do you have to fill the last spot with a bot? If it's the latter, that's definitely a step down from MP10.

Had fun playing with my two girls last night. But it seems very luck based with landing near the stars.

I won the mini games by a fair bit and still came last overall.

Not that I care, as long as the kids had a blast, but I thought it was interesting. I guess that's Mario Party!

Had a lot of fun playing this today
River Survival minigames can get pretty repetitive but we managed to unlock DK after finishing with three different goals
Played all the boards already, feeling kind of let down on that point, really hoping they release more. Board minigames are fun and the switch joy cons are incredibly responsive in comparison to controllers on previous versions.
New dice and ally mechanics add a good spice to it
Wish duels could make a comeback as well

Sad this game is still only 4 player max. Such a silly distinction in this day and age.

Our game arrived and I don't finish work for another 4 hours! Sister sent me this image ;_; can't wait.
That 3 on the Mario Party 1 cover always throws me off.

Have you played Partner Party yet? Each board does double duty, they feel pretty different.

Heard there is the partner mode but I haven't tried it yet
So that's sharing with another player?

Just weird to me that a board game can't have more players, even without making crazy mini games there could be ways to implement more players. Makes me sad cuz when I usually invite people over for something like this there's usually a few people sitting out if it's only a 4 player game.

10 total. And those 10 are rotating.

It's not good.

They really need to have it randomize 5 from a pool of 80 or give the option. I think they keep it a pool of 10 at a time so you can learn the mini games? That's the only thing I can think of..they just throw you in. It would be kinda hard to remember the controls for every one of the 80 since they don't give you an info page.

Not a great excuse though. They really need to give it an option still. Plus let us bring one guest online like Mario Kart!

THIS IS MY BOY.

Seriously I am so in love with Monty as a playable character. Monty should be in every future Mario party game. Please. I love him.

It's more likely that they only were given resources to program the netcode for a few of them. I haven't seen the selection of ten, but they might have also picked ones that would be more suited to online play.

This explains the board online issue too -- it would be even more pathetic if you had the boards with only ten minigames.

Just lost to my 5yo son. He landed on the ally square three times and was rolling double-digits every turn.

Something that bothers me is that during practice mode for mini games, the controller will rumble to prompt players to ready up. This is really intrusive when practicing games that rely on HD rumble

Whomp's Domino Ruins and Bob-Omb's Mine are the only boards that feel like they properly capture the essence of Mario Party (still too small, in my opinion). I've literally watched characters like Bowser and Boo circumnavigate the board and pick up 2 stars on a single turn. It's not that hard to do once you've accumulated an ally or two and have a mushroom at hand.

Megafruit Paradise is an absolutely terrible board. Every game we've played on this board devolves into players simply circling a given island repeatedly hoping to finally land on a warp space to take them to the other island. So boring.

I'm not even going to mention the last stage, partly because it's unlockable so it could be a spoiler for some, but also because it's so embarrassingly bad that it's not even worth discussing. It just frustrates me that such an mundane and compressed board with zero imagination would be put into this game.

The game is in dire need of DLC boards. Take MP3 and MP4 boards and remake them. Or make new ones. I don't care. The variety and board depth need to be greatly increased.

Rolled the dice 10 times in a row and got 1's every time. Something is broken here. And I used the standard dice, not the character dice.

It's so pathetic these boards. It's only 4. Then they're condensed and the last one is garbage.

I actually don't think the fruit map is that bad, but that last map you unlock is underwhelming to say the least.

I just played 1 round with my 7 year old and wife, the kid laughed most of the game and ended up winning, it was pretty fun. Worth it for the fam experience.
