Mads Mikkelsen would have been perfect!

I'd much rather have someone playing Geralt that's a fan of the games and literature.

Would I rather Viggo Mortenson played Geralt? Well yeah, but this isn't as bad as it could have been.

Thats actually a pretty solid casting. Cavill isn't necessarily a bad actor, but he's really lacking in energy or charisma, so this will actually play well with that.
I actually agree with this. Ironically, I don't care for most of Cavill's roles, but I think he'll make a good Geralt due to his somewhat dry acting, and that isn't me throwing shade at him or the role either. I'm a massive fan of the games and the books, (read all the novels and comics), and Geralt is pretty consistently described as having a somewhat dry, morose attitude, and he seems exasperated almost all of the time, which makes sense considering his moral convictions and how they conflict with both his profession and the world around him; I think Cavill will be able to pull the role off beautifully. I kind of agree with some posters that he's a bit too pretty for the role, but I also have to take into account that he's going to be about 37 when the series airs, and considering Geralt looks around 48 to me, I don't think it'll be too hard for the incredibly talented makeup artists in the film industry to put a decade or so on the gentleman.

Excellent choice in my opinion. And people who say he can't act need to see more of his work (such as The Tudors, in which he's excellent) besides those shitty Superman movies. Not even the best actor around would be able to make anything from that script and horrible directing.

Do we know more actors? I find it hard if not impossible to find an actress as pretty looking as Yennefer irl looking close to her and with good acting skills. I love to be wrong though.

So do we know the timeline of the series? Does it replicate the games' events or does take place between the times of the games or after the games? Wil this retcon the Hexer series?

This green spam needs to end. There are better more fitting actresses for Yennefer.

Not feeling Eva Green at all. I feel like anything she touches is destined for a premature cancellation. Yennifer should be played by someone less known imo.

I think they should give a try in find Polish actresses. They may find more chances of finding a closer Yennefer with good actings skills than some otehr famous actresses. And why not search in all the world and dig? Just like how some video games offer opportunities to discover great talents in some actors these days and the media allows them to show their skills.

One of the book covers gave me an ideal look for Geralt that I kept in my head when reading the books. I think Cavill can pull it off.

Spanish books covers are amazing.

Only the books for now.

I'm glad they didn't go Mads Mikkelsen, he looks like too much of a creeper, but i'm not sure i'd have chosen Cavill either. it's a good hollywood "get" though for a netflix series, and he clearly has the physicality for it. that's probably all they're really thinking about tbh.

Something I don't really get, why is the guy who plays Superman auditioning for a Netflix fantasy series?

I mean good for him if he is a fan, but at 10+ episodes a year, this will probably take up a lot of his time. And despite the TV bias being gone for a few years now, unless this blows up worldwide it probably will at least not further his career.

I hope they start from the beggining with the short stories and Ciri appearing here and there to capture that "I'm your destiny" feeling. It would also be a great way to introduce people to the world, less known monsters and such.

Well cavils involvement im interested where I probably would not of been if it were a lesser known.

So the marketing and casting teams deserve a cookie.

Geralt's lack of emotion goes well with his plain, bland acting so i guess it could work.

TBH all I can think of when I hear his name is that time he said he doesnt care about movies that much, he just likes that he gets paid well. Also apparently a bit of a d-bag.

I heard hes good in Mission Impossible tho, so he might be good in this.
Do you not like money and would you not take some roles just to make a ton of it Dremorak? Maybe you and the people that were outraged by a very basic statement that applies to everyone is levitating above the rest of humanity.

I don't know how to feel about this. I don't think I've seen him in anything besides the DCU though. It's a great get for a Netflix TV show though name-wise. Makes me happy that Netflix seems to be heavily backing this. It's also cool that he's a huge fan of the games and books. I'm optimistic.

Apparently he quite wanted this role and cares for the source material, so presumably he's properly motivated to do his best. I don't know what that may be, but I haven't thought him bad in the stuff I've seen him in.
Geralt doesn't seem like that demanding of a role either?
This seems fine.

I'll say what I said in the thread on Etc side. I will wait to see him in full make-up and wardrobe before I pass judgement

BUT I have a few main concerns

- Yen, Dandelion and Triss. I gotta see who they grab for these pivotal roles.

- His swordmanship. I want Cavill to be trained how to proeprly used a sword. Not barabarian hack n slash. Also they need to factor in the spins and the flourishes. Its a key part of the Witcher's sword style.

- Storyline. Are they following the first two books or are they following the Ciri storyline form the books? (This may have already been answered and I just missed it)

That comment was made before I read he fought for the role. His passion makes me want to give it a shot.

I think he's a terribly mediocre actor otherwise.

The point of being mediocre is that you're in the middle, not great, but not terrible either....in any case it wouldn't be a "fucking train wreck".

People just like overreacting to everything

Would also love to see Eva Green casted. Hopefully there's some pleasant surprises coming too.

It wont take long. It's 8 episodes https://media.netflix.com/en/press-...to-lead-the-cast-of-netflixs-the-witcher-saga
The Witcher will consist of 8 episodes
It's the same Amy Adams gave to HBO.

I can already see the "WE TOLD YOU; Cavill was obviously a bad choice!!" comments when there's a trailer and Geralt isn't portrayed exactly like he is in the games. Book readers will then try to explain how it's actually accurate to book-Geralt, but nobody will care because he doesn't have a beard or something and that is an outrage.

Anyways, I don't have the allergy for Cavill that many people in this thread seem to have. I don't necessarily see the Geralt when I look at him, but the thing with actors is that they're supposed to do different things in different roles, so I have an open mind at this point.

He's a legit fan of the series and I'm happy for him, but he seems a bit too brolic to play Geralt. Maybe he'll slim down a bit. Witcher's lack emotion so hiring a stoic actor actually works well. Loooking forward to photos from the set to see how well he looks the part.

Eva Green would make a great Phillipa but she's probably too big for the role. Really can't wait to see the rest of the cast, I have high expectations for the show now.

The first season is eight episodes and we don't even know if there'll be multiple seasons. We all assumed it because it's based on a 7/8-book series, but the casting of Cavill might mean they're going for a limited series format instead.

Triss is not a pivotal role. She's a very minor character in the books. If they're doing the short stories she isn't even going to be in the series.
