At this stage if you are hosting a large public gathering in the USA and dont check for guns you are putting the attendance at risk.

Damn this hits close to home since I watch a lot of esports events. RIP to all those who lost.

Imagine if this happens at a CSGO or COD event, mainstream media would quickly blame violent video games instead of guns...

First thing I saw when I open up twitter today. America really needs to get its head out of its ass and start getting the guns under control.

I don't know what to say honestly, not even gonna watch the video. RIP to the victims, pisses me of how many innocent lives are lost because of guns.

It's come to a point where I'm just afraid to even visit America. I feel like this happens every three months or so

I haven't ever gone to events like this, but it seems like this one, at a local bar, was pretty small. But that's just a guess. Do the bigger events have checks in place for this kinda stuff? I always assumed they did.

I don't know much of this matter, so please excuse me if this question sounds stupid, but I understand this horrible shooting happened during a Madden tournament, so how could the shooter get in armed? How could this happen? Don't they check if people (tournament entrants and public) might carry something suspicious?

And, as sad as it fucking makes me, I'm 100% sure this shit won't change anything about gun control and that 2nd amendment some people are so fond of. NRA is almighty in the United States. Something must be done, one way or another. Fucking seriously.

Are there any reports on how many were killed/injured? Motive?

I really hope this wasn't a 'rage quit' type scenario where someone lost a game and this was the result.

How? There are already conferences hosted in other countries. Canada isn't that far away relative to most places in the U.S. If people get upset about the location of the event, the organizers can tell them they should be more upset about the reason for the change, and that attendees should do something rather than just keep digging their heads in the sand saying "Keep politics out of muh vidyagames!"

I dont understand what your last sentence has to do with Joey's call for more security. He's a TO for a fighting game tournament that's trying to keep his staff and players safe.

Also the Tournament takes place in Las Vegas every year and has been for a long time with very little issues. These events like this are always are troubling but being afraid of your own shadow in reaction to this is just stopping progress out of fear.

The whole point of EVO is to come together as a unified community so I dont think it's going to stop being held in vegas anytime soon.

Tighter security slows down the line to get in and can create a denser crowd than the event itself.

Not saying don't check for guns but it's hardly a solution since bottlenecks happen. You'll never see a denser crowd at an NFL game than the entrance just before the game for instance.

Same with something like PAX, the public area outside the entrances is more packed than the inside of the con, just the nature of large public events.

I just found the suspected shooter Twitter & he absolutely targeted certain people. This is fuckin sick, supposedly he went off the deep end & disappeared from the Madden community then came back. Check his tweet. This is David Katz aka Bread.

Edit: Not him... supposedly. My bad mods.

The Shooter killed and maimed all those people Just because he couldn't win a video game??? These days I feel like America is reverting back to the old wild wild west days where gunslingers roam the streets resolving petty arguments with a loaded gun. What a horrible situation.

The FGC is a global community and if those people don't feel safe then it is up to Joey to make safe. If Joey wants to be held in Vegas, then he is making it unsafe for those people.

No if it was a huge coordinator then Th at wo7ld be fine but from what little I know about evo the head staff running it is pretty small no?
I'm not saying it has to be EVO, but really anyone with enough resources to pull it off could try. I know a good portion of Canadians hate what's going on in the U.S., so they might even be inclined to help expedite setting something up for them. I'm just trying to think of anything we could do to show this isn't something to be tolerated anymore.

So fucking tired of this shit. I feel so much pain for the victims and their families, I can't even imagine. The issue is access to guns and mental health. Mental health is the more complex issue; gun control is something that can be changed by voting pro-NRA assholes out of office. Take this passion and anger to the voting booth in November, we can do this.
By the way one of those injured was a member of Bucks gaming.

I suspect this was a rather smallish event with no security. The shooter was allegedly a contestant who got really mad for losing. One of the guys he killed was a friend too. They all knew each other within the community.
