Ohhh, that guy. It's amazing how the names of Rogue One characters just don't make any kind of lasting impression. And I quite like the movie.

Well it would help is Disney starts framing it like that. Instead we just get "You'll be seeing some familiar faces instead"

Like wow, here's Gonk Droid. Remember Gonk Droid?

latest

Bet you are super hyped for Gonk Droids return aren't you.

You can replace Gonk Droid with any Star Wars character really, that feels like a lot of what Star Wars had become recently. Bring back the old characters instead of telling cool stories with the new ones.

I'm not speaking only the Sequel Trilogy here, Mandolorian Season 2 fell into the exact same pothole as well.
Eh mean Mando setup all those plot lines in season 1 so I loved it

He's a cheaper Han Solo? I mean, production wise, he's probably cheaper to hire than any other character they'd try to get?

That's always been my takeaway from this series announcement. Feels like Disney execs wanted a bunch of Star Wars content to fill out a schedule, put out feelers to a bunch of actors from the movies, most were probably too expensive, uninterested, or unavailable. And so they ended up here.

I'm not even sure what they gain by using such an unmemorable character. Pretty much the only thing people will remember about him is that he dies at the end of Rogue One, and that's kinda gonna ruin any perilous stakes / tense moments they put his character in with this series. They would've been better off creating a brand new character IMO.

I forgot this existed. Didn't really love Rogue One. But, I'll watch this. He might as well be a new character. They can essentially do whatever they want with him.

Y'all need to stop framing this as "the origin story for your favorite Rogue One Rebel agent", and start framing it for what it is:

A spy thriller series set in the Star Wars universe during the height of the Imperial era, created by the dude that wrote the Bourne Trilogy and Michael Clayton.

This shit is gonna be awesome.

Star Wars Jason Bourne is a better sales pitch for sure.

I seriously had to google Andor to see who this was. I love Diego Luna but why an Andor tv show? Well I hope it's as good as the mandalorian. I really wish Star Wars would move on from the prequels and the skywalker family. The mandalorian proved you can make a compelling new character.

Gotta say, I seem to be on another planet from most of the Star Wars fandom these days. Cassian Andor is one of the better Disney-era characters IMO. And that's not some sort of indictment, either. He's a genuine grey-area figure working a grey-area job with a talented actor behind the wheel.

It simply strikes me as a more inherently compelling pitch than most of what we're getting that people are actually hyped about.

Like Rebels & Rogue 1, I'm hoping we get to see Imperial, Senate & Rebellion politics in this.

While I'm probably on my own here, I'd read Tarkin before I saw Rogue 1 & I just love all the intrigue & backstabbing involved in the Imperial Fleet.

These threads are going to be funny to look back on when the show comes out and y'all actually fuck with it.

Gonna try and forget he was a boring nothing character who died in R1 and try to see it as just Diego Luna as some character in SWs, lot of talent behind this show for some reason.

I'm sure it'll be fun, but I just can't get excited for more dead-end Star Wars prequels. Just give me something with new characters to drive the story forward in a meaningful way that can be built off of, please.

I really loved Rogue One, so I will be cautiously optimistic about this. This is not a character I would want a show based around though

Diego Luna is great so I'm in for him. I get the "who cares about this character" comments but I suspect he's really just a vehicle to explore this era of the rebellion. Show could be about any number of interesting things 🤷‍♂️

Its a show about the one handsome hispanic Star Wars man who didn't end up an annoying disappointment (I still like you Oscar), from one of the best Star Wars movies. Yes, I'll watch the hell out of it and pray that poor Diego finally gets to touch Jabba.

If you haven't read Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel yet, it's a must. In addition to being a great novel, there's a metric fuckton of Imperial backstabbing. The first of the two canon Thrawn trilogies is pretty good for that too. Did a chronological run of everything and going through that era was super fun. It's a reason I really don't mind revisiting peak Empire-era of the universe. It's just a great setting.

Catalyst is next in my list after I finish two Neal Asher Polity books, Lockdown Tales & Joe Four.

Wait, there's a second Thrawn trilogy coming?

Oh yeah

Are the 'lol who cares about him?' people the same that say the PT is good because Clone Wars turned boring characters and storylines into something engaging?

Anyway, after something new with new interesting characters that don't need to be linked to the saga like it's a six degrees of Skywalker game, I rather have a show about a character that leaves a lot of room for development set in an interesting arena with a possibly interesting fresh story, than for instance the Obi Wan series or Boba Fett.

Show will probably be the best written SW show so far (and the best one since TLJ) : writer from the Americans, House of Cards, the Bourne series and Nightcrawler on this. Plus they shot like 8 months and built thousands of sets to shoot on.

Think it going to be more character driven than the recent stuff, so ofcourse SW fans won't care.

Do we have any news about The Book of Boba Fett? And Mandalorian Season 3? And Obi-Wan?

I guess Mandalorian Season 3 is still further away, but the other two should happen soon, no?

This being the show everyone wants you to know they don't care about means it has the potential to impress the most.

The "stop relying on old characters, give us something NEW" takes are always funny to me, considering 4/5 of Disney's SW movies and 4/4 of their shows to date have all been about new characters! I get that Cassian is no longer technically a brand new character, but surely one movie doesn't make him completely old hat?

Meanwhile, people have been beating the drum for an Obi-Wan movie/series for like a decade, a character who has been pretty well covered by now!
