This will never happen, but I would like a "demake" of sorts in the vein of black and white. 2D sprite work or that proto-3D look, unique 151 or whatever you can only use until post game, streamlined battle system. Can keep the characters on the map and ditch HMs for field moves as QoL features.. Just a nice DS experience with the good modern touches.

I would honestly rather have the remakes in the Let's Go style than be anything like SwSh. Gameplay is what I care about first and foremost with games, but I couldn't get past just how fucking ugly those games are. I made it about 15 hours before I turned it off and never looked back. The gameplay wasn't even good anyway.

I had hope after Sun and Moon, but Sword and Shields world design just got so simplified and the story so backloaded.
The part from the 6th gym up until the league just felt so rushed.
And the post game is very repetitive.
And in general I was struggling to not be overleveled cause they removed the option to not get an excessive amount of Exp.
The National Dex is like the smalles problem the games have.
They really need to change something before I'll be that optimistic about the series again.
Yes, I need something to cleanse my palate after the disappointment that SwSh was.
Will it really cleanse your palate if it will be just as disappointing?
I was already very disappointed with ORAS even though that had many very promising features.
But then it fell short in so many other areas.
You could look at HGSS and say it's the definitve Johto experience, but you can't say the same about ORAS.

Because many more people would want it. Today Sinnoh has been TT and millions of people would buy and enjoy them.

That's the point.

I mean considering the feelings about Gamefreak in general it just seems like peoples memories of DPP will be tarnished by it. I'd rather they just didn't.

I don't want a new mainline Pokémon game before 2022. SwSh desperately needed at least one year of additional development time and I think Game Freak needs more time in general to properly adapt to HD development. I have no hope left for this franchise if they stick to the release schedule of the previous gen.

Well, considering I've been trying to get my hands on a genuine copy of Platinum for months now, I wouldn't mind a remake. But honestly that's only because I would have to pay up to double the original RRP for a second-hand copy of Platinum or HG/SS in the year 2020, which is frankly ridiculous.

I think you overestimate how many people there are like that regarding the actual size of the fanbase.

Like, B / W is considered the sacrosanct generation and is the one with the least sales.

Sword and Shield were super fun, and a lot of y'all legit whine about it too much.

I'm down for a gen 4 remake.

Look, as long as its putting HMs out to pasture like all the entries from Sun/Moon onwards and doesn't run slow as molasses, I'll take the half baked S/S style experience of Sinnoh.
It'll no doubt drop the ball on numerous things, but I imagine it would fix these two mighty woes for my own experience of Gen 4.

Hmm Prob. Maybe i should just not follow threads that much. I do still think they should hold off on remakes or farm them out.

Yes, I'm confident that a remake of Diamond & Pearl would be much better than something completely new.
I honestly can't think of a more disappointing game I've ever played than Sword & Shield.

I'd like to see a new spin on remakes in the form of sequels. Change the story beats, mix a few gyms around and add some new Pokemon/Sinnohan formes etc. Don't just remake Diamond and Pearl and leave out all the Platinum stuff ala ORAS. Platinum is the best game in the series in my opinion, remaking Sinnoh based on just Diamond and Pearl would be a travesty.

I wasn't a big fan of Diamond/Pearl when I bought it back in the day and dropped off it after a few hours.

However, it seems like Platinum is regarded as one of the best games in the series, even by people who didn't like D/P. Can someone explain why? Was it substantially different? Thinking of playing through Platinum on the DS.

It felt more complete than D/P. The whole distortion world portion of the game gave some really cool twists on the tried and true formula and it felt new and different. There were a couple QOL changes that really helped the series (Back animations & legendary respawns), Battle Frontier, VS Recorder, animated key characters, and a ton more you can read about here.

Sure as long as it's not a Let's Go game.

Justt like with Square Enix during the FF13 and OG FF14 years, as an example, I am sure TPC could turn things around eventually...

Sword and Shield aren't even the second worst entries in the mainline series.

Of course, that isn't a high bar, but we take what we can get.

Drop it sooner as opposed to later so we can rip off the band-aid of hope and listen to the new remixes on youtube

Despite SW/SH being awful games in my opinion, I think it's possible for them to turn it around. I skipped on the SW/SH DLC myself, but the reception towards some of the fixes in the DLC seem pretty positive. Some more time to cook and I think we could get something on par to HG/SS and BW/2 if there's more focus and less rushing.

I loved Gen 4. I just wish it had more content like actual dungeons. Or an actual villain that makes sense.

Gen 4 has the most interesting map design of all the games, it was just held back by a ton of HMs getting in the way. Fix that in a remake and they'll be the best Pokemon games I'm thinking.

The only thing that would give me hope is that being a remake, there'd be more of an impetus to keep things at LEAST up to what those games had (probably not platinum exclusive stuff, but the base games), and improve upon them at least a little?

I'd probably wait for reviews in either case, after Sw/Sh, but.....idk.

Hopefully, if GF doesn't release remakes this year, they at least get a little more time in the oven, and the HD asset pipeline is (hopefully) more firmly in place.

Also more pokemon will have been up-rezzed to 'new Sw/Sh standard' for HD.

The Sinnoh games were a huge part of my childhood. I love those games. After HGSS I could not wait for the inevitable Sinnoh remakes.

I very much can wait now. I have no faith in them.

Will the game have every Gen 4 Pokemon? Doesn't that mean the two games won't be able to interact/play online toogether?

later. they need time to catch up.

also, the higher ups need to stop being so demanding with the schedule and set aside more time between games. how is it that Gen 3, 4 and 5 had 4 years between each but the recent ones only have 3 years between each, especially at a point where the games need more dev time due to increased complexity?

Am I wrong to feel that Gen 3 remakes felt like a demake in terms of artstyle? The 2D sprites were beautiful but were just average looking when translated into 3D in ORAS.

HGSS felt like a huge leap even though they were still using 2D sprites just like the original Gen 2.

For Gen 4 remake, I really think they need to work on the 3D overworld to make it more appealing somehow, i wish they would borrow artstyles from other Nintendo games like Breath of the Wild or Link's Awakening.

It would be interesting to see what they could make if they limited themselves to 2D Sprites within the framework of the Switch's hardware, while using modern tech here and there in a complimentary way (just like how it was for HGSS).

Everyone begged for full animated 3D for years but it feels like it hasn't quite worked out for them? I'd be curious to see them stick to what they were traditionally good at.

I guess the poll is asking if I'd prefer to see the remakes soon or sometime next year? Or something?

I'm very much enthusiastic about Gen 4 remakes. So yes, I do want them. Regarding the poll, I'd prefer they take their time with the project, so I guess I'll vote "Later".

I've lost faith in Game Freak's ability to handle remakes after Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire—Gen III being my favorite. They weren't bad games by any means, but they were disappointing considering everything that went into HeartGold and SoulSilver. With the cut corners seen in Sword and Shield, I really fear Game Freak will botch the inevitable Diamond/Pearl remakes if they don't take their time with them.

Also, I hope they incorporate improvements and story elements introduced in Platinum, but I'm not holding my breath.

I just can't trust GameFreak until I see some change. Thing is, I don't see them changing. It's so damn heartbreaking, because this is such a fantastic franchise that could be even better with more money, time, talent and effort. It makes so much money to be handled better, yet here we are. I'm going to vote with my wallet and not buy any of their games till they change their ways. It won't matter, because I won't make a difference. It's more for myself.

No way, I have 0 faith game freak would make a remake I would like if I look at S/S, that game was one of the most empty and boring games i've played

Nope.

I kind of enjoyed ORAS for it's nostalgic value but it wasn't as good a remake as HG/SS or even FR/LG.

And if the minimum amount of effort will be given like they did with SWSH then they shouldn't bother. But they will because money and I'll buy it because nostalgia.

They should ride out Sword and Shield as long as they can and spend as much time as necessary to make the next Pokemon game as robust as possible. Game Freak are good developers, but it's clear that their visions haven't been fully realized in a long time. That's how I see it anyway.

Not to go off rails with my rant, but if you see something like Persona 5, for a long time considered to be an extremely niche franchise that barely sold ~2.5 mill (amazing feat for Persona, but barely an opening weekend for Pokemon), and the amount of care and polish that that game has is just truly impressive. The quality of life features, the style and graphics are beautiful. One this is for sure, the budget that Persona has is nothing compared to what a Pokemon game should have.

Put some love on it GameFreak, please! You guys could make a legendary game if you wanted!

Sorry fam, just frustrated. Also, the sale numbers of persona are just from memory, don't remember if Persona 5 sold more.

Maybe we can get Diamond DLC for Sword and Pearl DLC for Shield and Platinum DLC just for Let's Go Eevee.

The entirety of sword and shield felt rushed. The narrative lacked any clear direction. Team Rocket knockoffs served little purpose, their gimmick still fails to make any sense. Entire end game nerfed. Bland pokemon designs. Game Freak has got to do better.

I have played 300 hours of Sword and Shield and yes it does have issues and ultimately didn't live up to my expectations of what a console Pokemon should have delivered I will totally play any remake they put out.

I really don't want to see anything from GameFreak for the next five years. I think that should be enough time to make a really good Pokemon game.
Just spend the time to make a meaty big Pokemon game, give it like five years then release one.
This would be amazing, but it could never happen. Going even one year without a Pokemon game is enough to put Nintendo's investors on edge; plus, Sword/Shield are among the franchise's top-selling games, so it's clear that despite our concerns, the general public is perfectly happy with this level of quality.

I have a lot of nostalgia for gen 4, but if they're going to gut the postgame stuff like they did for gen 3 I'm not going to give a single shit. I don't play Pokemon games for the single player campaign, especially not if they're going to add even more characters and cutscenes. If they really wanted to tighten up the series to focus on delivering a satisfying single player story mode that would be one thing, but the environments and cutscenes are fucking boring and lifeless, and the game just looks and feels more like a low budget JRPG than what I'd expect from the flagship product of one of the most successful entertainment franchises ever.

Sw/Sh are terrible. The only Pokemon game where it took me 6 months to finish just cause I couldn't bring myself to slog through the finale.
