Quick update from Hilversum, Netherlands.

There's a weekend market going on in the main square. -_-
It's full of people. -_-
At least a few of the streets at the city center were packed. -_-

I fucking hate idiots.

WvvUtT1.png

(There were tons more people out of frame)
It is crazy to see people going outside without masks, in open air markets where no distance is kept, no ordered queue of people are formed, and everyone does what (s)he wants.

The farmer markets have been allowed to stay open here in Germany as well and were packed as ever, still numbers of daily infections keep reclining. I'm really starting to think that activities taking place in the open as opposed to closed places are not that dangerous as feared.

Senior Mexican Health Official Questions How Deadly Coronavirus Really Is

The man in charge of Mexico’s response to the coronavirus pandemic says he isn’t convinced that the virus is any more lethal than an ordinary influenza outbreak, but he still worries about its capacity to overwhelm the country’s hospital system given the speed of its transmission.
I'm far more worried about the campaign that TV Azteca and that fucking ghoul Salinas Pliego Is gonna start against the lockdowns. First they had Javier Alatorre burning his entire reputation and I can assure you they'll start some bullshit about "taking our streets back".

Still, wtf Gatell.

I am fucking livid about that, like physically angry. I really, really hope Obrador has some decency and takes away Azteca's concession.

What they did is criminal, it's bioterrorism. Not even Fox News would go as low. And I doubt investors would see Azteca disappearing as government silencing or repression.

It is evident that they have crossed a line that no media has in the world.

Where did I say anything about stopping the virus? Do you even read what you're commenting on? Let's use both statements and try to follow a bit of logic, shall we?

If the curve is flatten not because of the lockdown but because the most vulnerable die early as it stated there then if you protect the vulnerable first then they don't die early and thus the curve is not flatten. The curve being no longer flatten then the health system is overwhelmed. QED.

Sorry, in the interview he says immunity flattens the curve and the deaths go down because old and frail die first. The bullet points are from the article and are very limited.

I really recommend watching the whole interview!

I suppose they're mad about the government closing down Elektra stores, but then again Salinas Pliego and AMLO are close allies, so who the hell knows what made them break up, or if they're gonna offer Gatell as a sacrifice.

Either way, I do feel 1% bad about the 4T bots in Twitter not knowing to either defend AMLO or going all out on Gatell.

There's barely any immunity in the first months. This is going from bad to worst in terms of arguments.

My take on this is AMLO (being the pathological narcissist he is) ain't liking how Gatell is stealing his thunder, so he might be using his friend (Salinas Pliego) to hit Gatell's reputation directly. People like him are capable of anything when it comes to get what they want. That's what makes Trump and AMLO so similar.

Sweden's hubris is affecting their thinking. They are so dead set on being right they are willing to ignore all evidence otherwise. Trying to claim that the CFR is .1% is just insane. Literally everything has proved that wrong. Also if 50% of the population got it then they would be testing at a significantly higher percentage than they are

No, don't you see, their specialists are so much better than everybody that they can't even figure out whom to test.

Saw this story that sheds another whole light on this situation: A prison tested it's inmates, 258 tested positive. Of those 98% had no symptoms.... That is a startling number but may be good news that we have way more people who may have built up an immunity. Question I have is will those 98% maintain no symptoms.

A COVID-19 outbreak at a North Carolina state prison has spread to more than 250 inmates, prison officials said Friday.

Giesecke is retired since 2005 I believe. He's not representing "Sweden". Anders Tegnell is the current state epidemiologist and neither he, nor FHM, has made any such claims.

I see Trumps tweets about Liberate xyz states has inspired more protests in those areas.
If I was a nurse or doctor in those states I'd be asking anywhere else - who needs me?

Italy peaked two weeks ago and they're still having 500 deaths a day, hope people are ready for this to go on for a long, long time.
probably just the proof that our public health system is broken after decades of cuts

i know the men and women on the line are doing whatever they can to do their job, but considering the numbers coming from other countries, is difficult to not come to teh conclusion that we are just not where we should be as a "first world country" in that regard

My best friend is an ICU Nurse here in Hannover, Germany. She actually is allowed to take her vacation days right now because the expected onslaught of Corona patients never materialized and since most not essentiell surgeries are not happening right now she was told to go home. Let's see what the easing of restrictions will lead to.

41 days into lockdown, still 3500 new cases and 500 deaths every day.
How ? I don't get it.
You get the R0 around 1 and case growth and deaths become linear rather than exponential. You need R0 to be below 1 or you need to get to 1 before things get out of hand and that's incredibly difficult considering this has an R0 of ~3 under normal circumstances.

Does the virus leave lasting damage to the lungs in any way in recovered patients?
it does.

basically usually your own body's reactions kills you before the virus has a chance to, but depending on the severity of the damage made by the virus it might not completely repearabel by the body and leave life-lasting issues

And in Italy R0 was still more than 1 on March 24, according to this study of ISS (Istituto Superiore di Sanità - National Institute of Health): https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.08.20056861v1
Yesterday, ISS has announced that according to their studies it is now 0.8.

Well I guess you know better than him. Why would 0.1% death rate be insane? What are your estimate and what is it based on?
I don't see what testing has to do with it. The focus has been to test thoose who need to be tested.

Chile
As Chile approaches 10.000 cases, it's over 120 deaths, big companies (Starbucks, McDonalds, big Retail companies who own shopping malls, etc.) are using the Government legislation AKA "Job Protection Bill", to suspend contractual obligation to pay salaries, leaving people not fired but with no other option than to go to the unemployment fund or starve to death as retail is closed.

Also, they are gonna re open retail because "families needs to eat". It's shitty and doesn't make any sense when you put these two together other than the first was a way to force people into wanting to work.

We are really following the worst of USA, as usual.

NJ Daily Numbers:

+3026 new cases (81420 total)
+231 deaths (4070 total)

We are getting very close to the peak I think or may be already at it but its an extended peak.

The hospitalization numbers continue to trend down which is great news.

How can you claim to know the mortality if you only test a fraction?
Also how can you know immunity is achieved without testing?

The only case where an entire population was tested was the Diamond Princess. The death rate there was 1.8%.
We know the passenger population there was 9 years older than the median age in Sweden, but there is no way you can adjust the data and get to a 0.1% CFR

Up to 3% of the population in most tests done so far in several places. Even the one done in Germany in the middle of the hotspot showed only 15%. That's far too low for herd immunity. Even the personal immunity itself is not yet proven to be on the long term.

Stop making claims that have no proof behind. No, the opinion of a scientist is not a proof without a peer reviewed study behind it. Especially when that scientist starts his arguments with stating that we know nothing about this virus.

Posted in the wrong thread earlier like an idiot so I'm reposting here:

Not sure if this is the right thread, but does anyone have a good source for where I can find SIMPLE, EASY TO PARSE info on how one would go about applying for and receiving the CARES act benefits?

I just found out my company is laying people off and reducing everyone else's hours/salaries, so I'll now have to file for unemployment. The company said we technically should get a little bit from Texas unemployment and then "$600 a week from CARES". Not sure how much of this is true because it looks like they mostly just copy and pasted from government info and did very little to explain anything. I have a feeling even they don't quite understand how it works.

it's pretty straight forward from what I read.
apply for unemployment. If you get at least $1 a week from it you should get the $600 a week on top of that without having to do anything extra. Though not all states quite have that in place yet but all of them should have it soon.

Has there been any news on if the government will extend it beyond July? My company looks to be effected at least through the end of the year. :(

Honestly? I can think of any crazy conspiracy and AMLO is going to top or double the craziness. He's out of his fucking mind and even Morena is fragmenting, governor Bonilla from his own party is one of the critical voices against Gatell and I think it's a matter of time before more senators and deputies jump from the Morena ship.

I'm not saying you're wrong or correcting you, it's just that when AMLO and Morena is involved, I can expect just any crazy shit from them.

I will reply here one last time.

Maybe your political ideas are blinding your criteria.

A lot of people is just mad because the president will not give tax exceptions or money to big companies and he is asking to some big fishes to pay 50 billion in past due taxes. That is why everyone in the media is against the goverment now.

Bonilla is a bad example as he is a entrepreneur who happens to be in politics (maybe there is a reason for that, right?) and is also the guy who wants to stay in power for almost 5 years, 2 more that the normal term limit. While I think it was crazy that morena put him on the ballot, I think the separation between them was bound to happen sooner or later

Actually it only runs through June.

as for any news, Dems likely want to extend it, but since the GOP is currently planning on opening things up on May 1st and are telling people that everything will be back to normal in a few months, it's extremely unlikely they would be willing to work on any plan that helps the common person in the next few months as it goes against their messaging.

about the only thing you can expect the GOP to be pushing for is more bailouts for companies they have ties to.
