Eh, hasn't Tyler Foli's season been pretty inflated by feasting on the Canucks? (Not that that means nothing of course)
Pearson is a solid player who's actually taking a paycut here. Not sure what the two have to do with each other. It's not like the Canucks made a bad decision trading Gudbranson for Pearson and then extrapolate that into meaning not being able to sign Toffoli.

Feels like trying to stir up drama.
He isn't stirring up drama. He's providing another illustration of Benning's incompetence. It's important that people continue to highlight his missteps. Apologizing and spinning for Benning does not help this franchise.

I don't get why this many years in there are still people coming to his defense and framing criticism as having malicious intentions. He's not the face of the franchise. He's not part of our identity. He'll be gone eventually once the Aquilinis no longer find him useful, and then we'll be forced to reckon with what fucking little he did over 7+ seasons and all the mistakes he made.

That isn't inflation. That's just playing particularly well against one team. Production doesn't have to be uniform. Not to mention that even if you remove his Canucks goals he still has as many goals as Pearson has points.

This is untrue:

Plus this season has shown evidence that he's declining, which is very common for players as they reach their late 20s. And he just got a 3-year extension.

And they're related in that they are, taken together, an explicit demonstration of poor asset management. Come on, you can see this. He doesn't even mention the fact that we gave up Madden and a 2nd (51OA - Niederbach) for Toffoli and then lost him for nothing.

It's not like the Canucks made a bad decision trading Gudbranson for Pearson and then extrapolate that into meaning not being able to sign Toffoli.
One good decision doesn't justify subsequent bad decisions. Not to mention the fact that Benning traded Jared McCann and a 2nd (33OA - Asplund) for Gudbranson in the first place.

I don't care about the 4ths with how many decent players the Leafs bring in from Europe most years.

If you're going to use a first on a rental this is the year with the draft looking to be what it is.

Just keep trading for players that beat the Leafs in the first round.

Mid/late 1st are still very good prospects. This draft is just regarded ad weak because it doesn't have special prospects at the top, which is irrelevant for the Leafs 1st

Statistics have also shown that after the mid way point of the 1st there is a drop off and they aren't worth too much more than a 2nd round pick.

Ultimately, it will depend entirely how well they do in the playoffs if it was worth it or not.

For sure. Just saying "this is the year with the draft looking to be what it is" doesn't apply unless you're talking possibly giving up a lottery pick where there's a huge difference this year

I fully expect this 1st round to pick bite us in the ass. It's the leafs way. We always lose trades.

There has been some good talent middle of the pack or even late on the first round.

Win the Cup and it won't matter if the pick becomes the next Pastrnak. Foligno could be garbage, too, but it doesn't matter if you won the Cup.

Leafs may never get a better chance with their bye to the third round this year.

Well it took 11 years but we really cleaned up at the 2010 draft

Huh, only had to give up Bjork and a 2nd. It's worth a try!

Not a bad couple of moves by Morion lately.

Gets a 2nd round pick from Tampa to pick up Paquette and Coburn. Turns Paquette into Dzingel, then Coburn into a 7th rounder.

So getting Dzingel, 2nd rounder and a 7th for basically nothing.

Traded for Mike Reilly from MTL for a 5th rounder, then a year later trades him for a 3rd rounder and picks up Mete for free.

Hall should see the opportunity and be more motivated now. Perhaps Boston is a good fit for that weirdo. Apparently they were in talks for a long term deal before the season so maybe he's more than just a rental. Considering the price, Boston is taking a good gamble. He might still be a flake, but there's big upside if he's happy there.

There is no real downside tbh. I'm not expecting a lot, but hoping him and Krecji can have some fun

Last week before the fantasy league playoffs start and lots of positioning still in play!

.....just realized players traded across the border to Canada today won't be available in fantasy lol

That could mess things up
