I was going to make a joke about Nagoshi and PS5, but then I remember that PS fans are very touchy when it people make jokes about Playstation.

Is there any kind of evidence that lack of availability in retail drives digital copy purchases on a large scale? I'm sure this is the case for some but I know for myself it would turn me away from buying the game outright, due to file size and overall wanting physical.

I think Octotpath Traveler went up and games like MHW too in digital. And it depends on people´s internet and from experience almost everyone I know that has a Switch, have bought Sd cards as well.

Squenix as usual understocking BD games and people thinking that the game bombed.
Its a tradition at this point.

I think 3D World would be substantially behind New Super Mario Bros. DS and Wii unless you just mean for 3D Mario's.
I think he meant this:

Yeah, from what I can tell I don't see any out of stock indicator on Tsutaya and it says shipping in 1-2 days.

Is this normal for all their switch games? Maybe the carts are expensive and they're just being overly cautious? IDK.

Nah it also happened with the 3ds games as well.

The game hasn't sold through its first shipment yet and its gotten more shipments since so I don't understand these posts. It's not fully stocked everywhere but we're not talking about a nationwide sellout here.

Didn't know. Still, "bomb" is a big word and still dont know about SE expectations, specially based on their lack of advertisement.

I know I'm late to the discussion but seeing Animal Crossing below Mario Kart and Smash Bros doesn't surprise. As people have said, eventually you are going to start reaching your saturation point. Also if a bunch of people bought a Switch for Animal Crossing last year, then they are naturally going to start buying other Nintendo games. They can't buy Animal Crossing again (well I guess technically they could). But Smash and Mario Kart are natural second or third game pick ups.

this is true, but I still find it ironic that people dont realize that some other evergreens don't even sell 10k weekly and are still adding up nicely to their ltd numbers. I'm just busy but imma post it soon. People that think AC is done selling cuz it's selling on par with MK8D/SSB, games mind you that are way up YoY have something else coming

It's already at 80-100% sellthrough.
Where do you get that it didn't sell through it's first shipment yet?

SE released Heroes of Ruin/Kingdom Hearts DDD/FF Theaterhythm basically back to back to back on the 3DS, and somewhere along the line got really scared off of massive physical runs (It was probably DDD's numbers) combine that with going to the paint hard trying to fix FF XIV and they remained kinda soft on the 3DS, really only going in with the two Bravely games, both of which had Nintendo assistance coming out in places outside of Japan, and the DQ remakes, which also had publishing assistance overseas.

BD was the first of these cart games to face the issue of low stock in Japan. This seemingly never happened with the Dragon Quest remakes. Or any of the other DQ spinoffs.

BD in fact had a remastered version with the stuff they were including in the western release of the game, For the Sequel. This one also had a limited cart run.

Bravely Second, well, I don't remember if it had low stock or just didn't do well in Japan. It actually did pretty great in the US.

On the Switch we had the problem reappear for Octopath and now BD2. I think it also hit one of the DQ Heroes/Builders releases too, but I can't remember. DQ XIS seems to be restocked regularly at the least.

The game is facing clear stock issues. They even acknowledged it on twitter over a week ago. Pretending otherwise at this point is just trolling.
There are more retailers than these that have supply problems since SE prioritizes the big ones when it comes to restocks which are also tiny at quantity.

I will say that Nintendo didn't hype BD2 nearly as much as they did BD:FF/BS/Octopath Traveler in the west. It didn't even get a special edition.

I think word of mouth and the general strength of RPGs on the Switch will carry it far though. It's a great game.

I might be misremembering but i don't think there was some crazy hype or marketing for Bravely Second going on. Flying Fairy and OT had more hype because they were at the time new, amazing looking IP slatest to launch in the first 1-2 years of the systems launch....so they were part of the launch marketing and hype. You can't really recreate this kind of environment on a +4 year old system with a relatively save sequel.

I want to say the lack of marketing for Bravely Default 2 may be due to COVID and even then I'm not that sure.

Yea Nintendo did market Bravely a bit, but honestly compared to other Asano games not that much tbh. It seems like wom is pushing the series more after launch compared to the marketing before it launched. Either way I hope it does well because I want more Bravely games since they offer something different than other Asano games.

I will say that Nintendo didn't hype BD2 nearly as much as they did BD:FF/BS/Octopath Traveler in the west. It didn't even get a special edition.

I think word of mouth and the general strength of RPGs on the Switch will carry it far though. It's a great game.

To be fair neither did Age of Calamity(or anything else post Xenoblade:DE?). So I'm not sure if that's just a general logistics thing.

Here we have NoA hyping up a game with a vague 2022 window, instead of promoting the new game Team Asano released just three weeks ago.

One of the rationales given for no Yakuza games on Switch by a series producer (not Nagoshi) was that the Wii U port performing so badly had proven there wasn't a market for the series on Nintendo consoles. This is just equating that logic to PS5.
I 100% understood what the equivalence was for. My question was about what I was quoting from a different poster, and as it turns out, they were 100% NOT sarcastic when they said this pisspoor number, 2k (wow!! /s) as opposed to 1k, by being double was "proof" that there was an audience. It's like one of those joke posts where someone posts that something did great because it went up by 500% when the actual numbers are 1 past week and 6 this week, but here the guy is serious...

Apex Legends on Switch has received a lot of in store promotion and Yakuza 7 on PS5 didn't go unnoticed either, Sega gave it better treatment than a low profile re release.

The game that faces bigger stock problems than everything else is Little Nightmares II Switch.

Found this while randomly googling but Game Studio is making the Adventure of Dai console game. It also uses UE4 apparently.

Which one is Game Studio again? The Quest of Ki developers?
Yes that's them, originally ex-Namco. They also went by "Mobile & Game Studio" for awhile, and went by both for a bit depending on if they were making a console/arcade or phone/browser game, but now they're back to just Game Studio.

Squenix as usual understocking BD games and people thinking that the game bombed.
Its a tradition at this point.
Not only BD sadly, Octopath and Trials of Mana had stock issues as well.
I will say that Nintendo didn't hype BD2 nearly as much as they did BD:FF/BS/Octopath Traveler in the west. It didn't even get a special edition.

I agree the marketing of BD II was weird as well, but I guess with the lack of Nintendo Direct/E3 you have less chances to show the game.
