I'm almost done with the drone racing and I'm surprised it didn't take me longer. The time trial score for the 5th race is the only thing I have left to do (aside from getting all the drone parts) and it's kicking my ass so far. I'm losing a lot of time during the first sequence under the Millenium Tower.

I think I've hit that point where there's not much more I'm willing to do. I have the batting cage left, the drones, the girlfriends, mahjong. I have 46 friends, 48 side cases done. I might be able to do the batting cage. If I had ambition I would finish off the girlfriends. So I might be done with this after 60 hours of gameplay.

Sorry if this has been worked out before, but there's 34 pages and keyword searching wasn't helpful.

I accepted the side quest "An Entertainment Job" a couple of chapters ago (I'm in Chapter 6 now) but the side quest has never been made available on the actual map. I go to Hotel New Deborah during the day and no one is on the 6th floor. Was there a time limit to do this side quest and I'm just SOL? I watched a video and all they did was accept the job and go to the hotel, both are things I have done so I'm not sure why it isn't working.

Isn't this the quest where you have to put on a disguise? Sometimes the game isn't very straightforward when you have to change outfit.

Finished up and like most I really enjoyed the narrative. RGG Studio are some of the best in the business when it comes to sprawling drama, and the various side cases and characters of Kamurocho are a smooth fit for the role you're playing here.

If they make another I'd like to see a little less reliance on fight heavy Yakuza-style scenarios to move the plot along at key moments, and a little more time with the courtroom side of things. Even if not every new mechanic holds up I appreciate they mixed up the formula, and would be interested to see what they come up with if they decide to try and differentiate it even further.

The case description doesn't make mention of a disguise, and I don't think the person in the video was wearing one. I know you get a vampire costume to wear but that's only after you meet the client, which I haven't done since they won't show up. I'll try it though when the game lets me change back to day time.

Edit: so despite being in daytime, the quest is now available after having rested after the night time sections of chapter 6 so I can finally get this quest out of my log :)

Looks like this is $40 most places. Is it different enough in tone and pacing to differentiate itself a bit from Yakuza? I'm totally burnt on Yakuza, but thinking about buying this.

In general tone, yeah, it's different and the narrative feels a lot more subdued, although the yakuza afilliated characters come close to your usual RGG stuff. Gameplaywise it's pretty much the same with some very shallow detective gameplay elements on top with varying results. Most of it feels like it's just there to add more interactivity to cutscenes.

I highly recommend this game.

Batting cages are super easy. You'll eventually unlock a shiny bat that basically makes the mode too easy. I actually regret getting the item as early as I did, as you can't seem to unequip it once you get it.

Finally finished.

Game totally jumped the shark in the last chapter, loved it.

best fight choregraphy in the yakuza game by far. Loved every second of it.

I saw it coming but I kinda hate how they made a Phoenix Wright trial, by stuffing three trials into one and be done with it in 5 minutes. I wished we would have a least two and be more thorough.

Couldn't finish all friendship and all cases. Could never see the ending of Madoka's friendship :(

Didn't bothered with the dating stuff.

Probably in my top 3 yakuza game. I would just get rid of the gang invasion and spice up more the chase / follow sequence as they got very tedious fast.

The game also has the best cast of character by far : Kato san is the best bro, Saori is genuine great, Higashi has a lot of character developpment, Ayabe is legit an amazing character and the voice actor is having tons of fun making him endearing, Hamura is a true charismatic menace and has a lot of presence ... Great stuff all around

That's doing it through the batting cage friend, right? I've been using a batting cage guide but my timing can still be screwy.

I'm near done but downloaded the update and a bunch of packs appears in the office mailbox, but I don't know how to access the contents? They don't show up in the item list and there's not Bob like in Yakuza to go to

I'm likely to start playing Judgment tomorrow but I can't decide if I should pick English or Japanese VA! What's best?

You do have to get the bat through the cages yeah, its a friend event that triggers after a certain point (its been a while since I played the game so I forget the exact point). But once you do trigger it, you should be able to clear the harder challenges no problem.

Japanese, no content. The English VA is actually good this time around unlike the last two times they added it into Yakuza 1 and FOTNS, but still having the original Japanese VAs both sounds more authentic for the setting, and are just a step above the English ones performance wise.

Last night I got so disheartened I was playing Puyo Puyo and made it to stage 26 and Rulue showed up and I lost to her again. I was so mad you can't believe I fumbled so bad under pressure. I picked myself up and tried again. Made it all the way up to stage 31 and lost. She never showed up. I was so close to giving up and throwing in the towel. There are so few games that I believe I can say that defeated me. In the way of me putting in the time to learn them and trying for an extended period of time for an honest attempt. Today I said this is the last day. If I don't win. I'm done. I lose. I'm going back to playing the main game. All morning I lost. Then in the afternoon I thought I would give it one last shot. After about a dozen losses and the day getting late I was down to my last long try. Stage 27 she shows up. The second i see her I try so hard to ignore her. If I throw my concentration off for even a sec it could be the start of doom. I go back and forth of trying to ignore the feeling of do or die and panicking with playing like a machine and moving pieces in swift motions. I fumble a bit and I have white blocks pile one. I return the favor. Both of us have half screen full of white blocks mixed in with regular ones. I kid you not it was a tug of war for the ages. Everytime I heard her Japanese sounding taunt it made me so nervous. I would clear clear and clear but it was never good enough. Finally I dug myself out and had most of the right side clear with a little on the left to go. I started to think, If I only try to save myself I will never win. I decide to ignore the left two most columns and focus on building the right side and setting up an attack. Is this the way to go? Should I turn back and start clearing. No. Do or die! Hit a five hit combo and piled um high on her side. I wasn't looking to great but she was all the way up to about two lines. She still kept fighting though. I have to bide my time. There is no way she can come back if I just try to survive. Two minutes later she was out. I finally WON! OMG yes. Suck it bitch! I decided to keep going to see how far I could last. Made it to stage 31 where I ended fighting her again. This battle lasted forever almost a full fifteen minutes. That's crazy long in Puyo Puyo cause someone usually bites it before then. Well I lost but it didn't matter cause I really won. Damn do I feel good to be done with this game. I kinda liked it but hate it at the same time. It can be fun but it's also can be cheap as fuck. Damn. I hope drone races aren't this bad. I don't feel worried though. This game isn't really my cup of tea usually and I am very bad at puzzle games so to conqueror this one feels good.

I'm getting real sick of these tailing missions. Some side quest makes you lose a target in purpose and then you just run around for 30 secs and try to guess which way he went. I'm done with this kind of mission design.

Nice. I'm in the final chapter past the point of no return, at what I'm pretty sure is the last active search sequence, and... the game is frozen on a guy's watch. Can't dismiss it, can't move on, but helpfully I can bring up the game controls and settings!

Fuck.

EDIT: holy fuck, the last autosave is

BEFORE THE FUCKING TRIAL EVEN BEGINS.

Goddammit Sega, what even is the POINT of autosaves if it doesn't actually autosave?

So I thought I did all the hard stuff for completion (drone, puyo puyo, mahjong, casino...) but I just realized the number of KO I have to do with wall jump... I have like 13/300...
Any idea where I can farm that? Or I should just rely on random encounters

Random encounters + VR place as you grind for money/completion there if you've not already done so. The wall jump/grab (circle button) does fantastic damage and damages enemies around you, not sure if defeating multiple enemies counts as only 1 (the enemy you directly hit from jumping off the wall) or all enemies. So that's worth a try. Its been a while, but I don't think heat moves from wall jumps count (so probably not worth using those)

So if I liked Judgment and never touched a Yakuza game what's my best bet there?
As mentioned above, 0 is a great choice. Out of the ones out in English on PS4 its got the most content and tells a great story. Uses a different graphics/game engine but that just means it doesn't look quite as good, has more load times between shops but is silky smooth (which itself is an enormous plus). Otherwise Kiwami 2 if you want to stay on the same engine but you'll initially be a bit lost plot wise since the beginning of that game takes a couple of events from Yakuza 1 as the start of its plot... likewise Kiwami 1 is enhanced thanks to 0s fleshed out characterisation so ultimately its best to just start with 0 and then maybe progress onto other games in the series if you enjoy it.

Finally jumped back into this after finishing chapter one and kind of slipping off.

And I'm really, really glad I came back. Previously, I'd only done one side case, and because the "friend events" I'd seen so far had just been Poppo buyathons, I'd written them off too.

Instead it's like... all my favourite, humane, awesome interactions and systems from Yakuza are here and tripled down on. I'm only on chapter three but I'm on, like, city level 25 and have done all the side cases available to me. I'm kind of sad, in a way, that I kind of raced through some of the friend events that probably would have been better revisited incrementally as I continued through the game, but hey, I was having such a good time that I'm sure get over it.

There are few games I have as much fun with as I do Yakuza games when I'm the mid-game flow of taking on all the little side quests around town. Just a total joy. I hope this game found an audience.

Yeah, I recently committed as well and made to Ch3. Now I'm hooked. I just LOVE the friend system and how it really grounds you to the world :)
Also, I keeping going back and forth between English and Japanese.... Can't decide

If the fact that not everyone will speak in English in the dub doesn't bother you, go with English. I did, but also because I was denied Pierre Taki's performance for this release, that was a key factor.

Plus hey, James Hong.

This ADDC Okubo flashback is just dragging this game.
Shintani keeps saying Ōkubo is guilty doesn't help. Everytime he opens his mouth I rapidly tap X

Reuse Kamorocho city. But also Makoto model as Terasawa.
Saves money

Edit: HELP! This Terasawa mellow drama in the courtroom is too much.

The pacing of this game is not as good as other Yakuza game.
You have flashback scene with Ōkubo that dragged then you followed it up with Kaito's old friend Side story that is more like the creators want you to fight Kaito.

And speaking of pacing.
Let go raid this Yakuza HQ wait let me fumble with these keys

Who thought this was a good mini distraction

So what's the deal with the cans of cat food that you can buy? I felt like throwing the devs some support and bought the Detective Life DLC for the office cats and was surprised to find I can't feed the cat food to them.

I'd love to know this as well. I assumed it was for a side case or something to do with the many cats that you find at investigations but never, ever found a use for them. Strange...

It's just to add realism to the game. I could go to the next store and buy cat food in real life as well, without any actual use for it.

All other items have some sort of value in the game though, even if its just for office decoration, modding or monetary value. Seems more like a weird omission than attention to detail to me, unless I'm missing something (I played the Japanese version so something may well have been lost in translation). I can't think of any past Yakuza game doing this, where items always served some sort of purpose.

Cat food can be used in crafting certain extracts (I don't have the game installed anymore atm, but I remember one of the more 'powerful' extracts require the cat food you can only buy with SP for example) Likewise Platinum and other 'Plates', sure you can sell them, but they are also ingredients for extract crafting.

Just started this game last night... is the brightness off on this game somehow? For example in the calibration settings, it said adjust so both pictures are easily visible. I had to turn my TV backlight setting all the way down to even get the vaguest suggestion of an image on either side. It's almost impossible to read the fonts on the map and cellphone.

I haven't had this problem with any of the other Yakuza games. Any ideas?

Yeah, cat food (as well as a surprising amount of the Poppo/Don Quiote food items like sandwiches and bento boxes) are all used in extracts. Fresh Tuna Cat Food, Tuna Onigiri (I think?), the Tuna Sandwich (Tuna and Ham?) and one other thing you can buy from Poppo makes Stealth Extracts, and man I wish I'd bothered to play around with that way sooner because wow are they awesome for getting around Kamurocho any time the stupid Keihin Gang decides to invade. Literally the only time you get into a fight is if you make the mistake of approaching one of the gang leaders. You can run right through normal mobs and they don't even notice you.

I don't find the extract system to be all that interesting, though, just because higher-end ones are difficult to make in quantity, which discourages experimentation. It feels like they wanted to come up with a bunch of skills but didn't want players to have permanent access to them, so I kind of get why they exist, but the fact that no one really knew what the point of cat food was shows that people just aren't engaging with the extract system and it might warrant a rethink for the next game.

I also think it would've been a good idea to make more extracts that filled the role of the Toughness ZZ/Emperor/etc. health drinks from Yakuza games. I assume removing them entirely was an intentional choice to make Yagami less resilient, but honestly all it means is I end up guzzling tons of pizza buns and bento boxes instead because going into a fight and realizing you don't have enough health potions is never fun, especially if you have to go through a bunch of fights without the option to save or back out to the open world. There are two extracts that restore health but one of them is a heal-over-time potion, which isn't always ideal, and the other is (I think) a full heal but requires some primo ingredients to make. In both cases, you also can't make a ton of them at a time due to ingredient limits (see above).

Makes sense. I never used the crafting/medicine system either. Its a neat idea, but the game was never remotely hard enough to require it (which honestly, is probably not a bad thing as I hate this stuff in other games). I just like having Stamina XX and Tauriners for my healing needs!

The only one I found useful was the SP boost one so I could max all my skills with the Omega Bomb drink. I didn't bother with anything else and the temporary effects are too short to make it worthwhile.

Got it late last week. It took me just under 92 hours.

A little piece of advice for those who plan on doing a Legendary run: stock up on healing/food items. The last chapter has lots of tough fights in a row and you'll be pissed if you die during the very last fight has you'll have to do the whole section again.

How do you exactly "greet" your close friends? I have bought all the upgrades that supposedly "massively" increase your Ex-gauge when you encounter them, but the gauge doesn't seem to increase at all when they salute me on the street.
