Classic Anus Game

Konami's been missing this generation. Sure, they kept releasing PES and released MGS V at the beginning of the gen, but after the huge PT scandal they have pretty much released nothing for consoles (MGS Survive doesn't count)

However, since last year, it seems as if Konami wanted to get in people's minds again. First they release Castlevania Requiem, giving people a chance to finally play Rondo of Blood if they haven't yet and SotN, probably one of the best Castlevania games. Then Ritcher and Simon got announced for Smash, and not only that but unlike Cloud there were a ton of Castlevania songs, spirits, etc. Now a few days ago, completely out of the blue, they announced three different collections of their classic titles for their 50th anniversary.

I think they're trying to make a comeback, maybe not this gen but in the next one. Hell maybe they saw how successful RE2 was and decided to do the same with Silent Hill.

I kind of doubt they'll attempt to go back to high budget gaming outside of PES, but I could see them licensing or developing more low budget titles.

You forgot the amazing picross which gave me about 50 hours of enjoyment for free. As well as the bomberman revival which also included deep cuts.

But I'll only call it a comeback if they start releasing actual games on a constant basis. MGR2 with platinum would be a good start.

No, those collections are just a quick way to make a buck with minimal investment. Mobile will be Konami's bread and butter.

It's gonna take more then rereleasing old games and letting Nintendo use their characters for me to consider them having a come back.

Sounds like they're doing the bare minimum to make a quick buck to be honest, so no

What does "comeback" even mean?

Call me when there's a new Suikoden game.

These cash grabs they are doing are just keeping the lights on.

Doubtful. I do love they are bringing the Classic Arcade collection to consoles and PCs. I will definitely be buying those.

Super Bomberman R was a neat surprise. I wish we had more of those in the pipeline

No. I think they are mining their legacy content for cash. That said they've done a pretty good job recently with their non mobile gaming related ventures.

They should keep releasing collections, a Silent Hill & complete MGS collection for next gen would be appreciated.

Re-releases of games they made two decades ago does not give you comeback points in my book.

Not sure if cute game collections warrant a comeback status, unless they show either new IPs or new entries they are still mostly cutting coupons from pachinko.

No. They are no longer what they used to be. They did a lot of baffling things, they expressed very clearly that they want to focus on mobile gaming and their pachinko machines, there was the whole Kojima debacle, and some of their beloved licenses are as good as dead (Suikoden, among others, and I see that I am not the only one sharing that sentiment). Not to mention the way they treat their staff.

So, no, they are not making a comeback. They are just milking what's left of their franchises and don't seem to have long-term any plans for those.

No. It would take a whole lot more than a few anniversary collections (which aren't even physical to date).

I mean, it'd be great if they did, but I wouldn't say re-releases of their classics is indicative of a comeback. They're making some relatively easy money for a low amount of risk.

All I want is a proper remaster of SH 1-4

That'll redeem them a bit in my book

Capcom's comeback involved new Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry titles.

Konami has a long way to go.

They need to build alot of goodwill by making games from their other IP that is not metal gear and make sure the game is really good. I'm not sure if they are even capable of making such game as their focus is wildly different now.

They've by and large left the console/PC market. Their top gaming talent has moved on.

Just expect remasters and cheap, low-risk content like Bomberman.

Easy to make rereleases of old products made by people who most likely don't even work for the company anymore is not indicative of a comeback at all

If anything, it's the opposite.

All I wanted from them is a Castlevania anthology, and it seems like they may be in the process of doing that.

They are very much not. Collections require almost no effort and are a great way to simply collect money.

I don't think so at all. They seem content with giving licenses to other companies to do ports or new games. Super Bomberman R was probably only given a green light because it would be cheaper to make in comparison to MGS.

Konami is back!
Back in 1989.

No, of course not, they just happened to have a few beloved IPs laying around and thought they might as well make some money with basically no investment.

Nah. They went and released Bomberman R and updated the shit out of it, and that was a sign to me they were gonna return with more games but nothing really happened after that despite its success.

Throwing out the odd rom collection in a package and letting a much more capable videogame company use their IP in a way that is far better than Konami themselves have managed lately is hardly what i would call a "comeback". If anything it's an embarrassing reminder of how low they have sunk.

Maybe if they actually announce some new games (and no Pro Evolution Soccer 20whatever doesn't count, i'm pretty sure that like Metal Gear Survive they shit those out with minimal effort) we can talk.

Within the gaming bubble, Konami is apparently a barely functioning company that doing the bare minimum to just keep the lights on, whatever that is supposed to mean.

Better to think Konami primarily as a Casino driven business. They make slot machines (Step into any major Casino in Vegas, Pennsylvania, or even Atlantic City and you'll see tons of machines with Konami branding)

With that said, their console gaming divisions have slowed down tremendously, would give the impression that folks think because they decided to focus on their other business ventures, this is somehow an unforgivable crime.

I'd understand criticizing Konami for the their poor employee treatment monitoring communication between co-workers, restricting lunch breaks, and punishing them with manual labor-like tasks, or how they dealt with Kojima's exodus from the company. Those things are reasonable enough for Konami to earn the criticism they get. Not because they significantly halted their console gaming efforts.

Konami has made some of my most beloved IPs, namely, Castlevania, Suikoden, Contra, and Gradius (by extension Parodius too), but a lot of the long standing talent that made these games are no longer employed at Konami so even IF Konami decided to continue full speed with their console gaming developments, it wouldn't be the same thing anymore anyways.
