I'll be backing for two copies if they have a PC stretch goal. Definitely getting this for the Switch otherwise.

So I've always wondered and I think I already know the answer, but if you give money to a kickstarter and it fails it's goal, they keep the money right?

no. though I think KS has a type of funding that allows for that? I know other platforms do. it's rarely used, and I don't believe PG will utilize it.

This is going to be interesting to watch.

(I peeked into the Direct Thread and saw discussions about W101, so this news isn't as surprising as it must be to people who didn't know.)

Nah that's Indiegogo. If the Kickstarter fails to reach its goal by the end date, every person that backed the project isn't charged. Kickstarter only charges you once the project has met its goal.

There's a full-year number.

Media Create Sales: 2013 CY {2012.12.31 - 2013.12.29}
400. [WIU] The Wonderful 101 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.08.24} (¥6.930) - 14.134 / 14.134
Game data library lists as having 27.028 ltd. For comparison TMS is 23.806 first week with a ltd of 36.868. Bayo 2 is 33.114 first week and 48.462 ltd.

Out of all of W101 was the worst selling but the one with the best legs. I wonder what did it, maybe it was heavily discounted or something?

This "twist" is even stupider than I imagined. Good luck, Platnium. Do I get blocked if I donate in dollars?

If W101 surprisingly does well multiplatform do you guys think Nintendo would pay to get the sequel exclusive?
Nintendo probably isn't giving up ownership, or at the very least retains first right of refusal for sequels, which might explain why no other publisher was willing to touch this.

Considering how many DS -> 3DS ports Atlus put out, (and the 3DS has BC, so you already could play all of those games on the system) it might have been more of an Atlus decision. Obviously Nintendo had some involvement, but it feels like Atlus just wanted to get something out on the system while SMT5 takes 700 years to create.
Atlus is releasing P5S in about 2 weeks. TMS release was likely timed to build up to that.

that's just japan tho, my guess is both TMS and bayonetta 2 did far better outside japan. we know bayo 2 on wii u did around ~300K a few weeks after launch.

At first I thought it was BS. Then after listening and looking at what's happening I'm now ready to back a Wonderful Kickstarter when it goes live!

400. [WIU] The Wonderful 101 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.08.24} (¥6.930) - 14.134 / 14.134

Edit: And that's with a launch shipment of 30.000 units (source)

yowza.

2014:
682. [WIU] The Wonderful 101 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.08.24} (¥6.930) - 3.885 / 18.019 (5.258 <17,64%>)
2015:
944. [WIU] The Wonderful 101 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.08.24} (¥6.600) - 1.630 / 19.648 (-58%) (5.258 <17,64%>)

Safe to say even including digital it never hit 30K in Japan.

I hope it's true because I want to play this game.

And I also hope they aren't planning a ks campaign without a PC version lol

That probably includes some random digital estimate. Not sure where they got that from.
Nintendo uses Media Create for sellthrough, not Famitsu.

I hope this works out. I think publishers should do this for projects that they want to do, but don't know if the demand is there for it.

I know that. I'm just using as a point of comparison since we are talking about Japan sales in the other posts.

Yeah, I do wonder where the numbers come from in this case. With that said it sadly did do pretty abysmally, even if we compared to other Wii U games.

Hopefully with the KS it manages to find a bigger audience.

For those blaming the Wii U for The Wonderful 101's sales, remember Switch had a game called Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido which even had Nintendo EPD involved.

Nintendo did give up ownership

It still feels weird though. When you look at the, by the time being, almost 1400 Spirits on SSBU and see the plethora of dormant IPs which they still hold and yet they gave up on this one but hold a lot of others.

It's not Mario or Zelda. Look at that list. Out of 18 how many games on that list that aren't Nintendo old franchises?

Goddamn, I've heard of moving the goalposts, I've never seen them strapped to a Ferrari and blazing away on the track like that before.

Wonderful 101 didn't need to be a million seller and make that list, but it realistically need to do a couple hundred k without major price slashing, like bayonetta managed (got Nintendo to fund both ports and another sequel) and it definitely did not do that.

Do enough people care about W101 to back a successful Kickstarter for it? There's a reason even Nintendo won't help their buddy PlatinumGames out here.

I remember someone in the Smash thread yesterday calling the Direct thread crazy for entertaining the idea of Kickstarter. Womp womp lol

I would love a remake. They stole my WiiU with W101 in the disc tray so there is no chance I'm gonna both again.
