The sad reality is that most games are not getting a remaster. So if a game is not also released on PC then it's likely locked in whatever form it was originally released in. There are a huge amount of games still locked on the PS1, PS2 and even on the PS3 forever more.
Well PS3 emulation is getting pretty decent at least.

Mainly tho my point is that getting locked in works both ways, there's tradeoffs to 60 that aren't minor imo because it's not just a question of scaling back resolution and graphical effects for every single case.

I'd take a stable 30fps over an unstable 60 FPS (that averages around 50ish FPS) ANY day of the week. After I first got into Digital Foundry heavily I realized that frame pacing affects me more than anything. So uhhh whatever's best paced lol.

but trading a stable 60 FPS for a stable 30? Ehhh I doubt it. Only scenario I can see is if there was a switch port of some AAA game that ran at a solid 60 FPS, but the resolution was lower than 520p/720p (Switcher 3's resolution), and the 30fps option would let me get 720p/1080p.

Pretty much all of them? I'm ok with 30fps, been a console gamer my whole life. Pretty standard for the last decade or more.

FH4 has a 1080p60 and a 4k30 mode.
The 1080p60 mode disables/lowers a bunch of graphical effects on top of massively reducing the resolution compared to 4k30.
But.... I still chose to play in that mode. It's just better. And motion clarity of 1080p60 is still better than 4k30, and especially in a driving game, that is king.
I got the game at launch and set it to 1080p60

i've genuinely forgotten it's got a 4k mode, 60fps all the way
Initially had this running in the 4K mode and was not enjoying it at all. Dropped it after a couple of tries. On a whim one day tried the performance mode and it was immediately so much better. Car handling felt so much better. I don't know, for me, that this translates to every game must be 60 frames as there are plenty of 30 FPS games I love but I am never buying a 30 FPS driving game again.

On games that let you choose on Xbox or PS4 I always end up picking the 30fps Graphical Boost mode over the "Performance" modes. Many games look distinguishably worse at 60fps and never needed it in the first place.

Halo 5 looked nasty and the campaign was too slow to justify the visual downgrades for that frame rate.

Yeah sure. I would sacrifice 60 for 30. Most games don't need 60 to be playable, so I would rather they look better.

If it's pretty locked at 60fps, no.

If it's "60fps" but unlocked and rarely ever hitting 60 — every single one of those games should lock to 30 for consistency.

Probably
If games let me chose between performance and graphic mode I usually pick graphics (Forza Horizon 4, Gears 4 etc.)

Damn I'm over here annoyed I can't get NFS Heat running past 90 consistently and you want me to drop shit down to 30?! Hell no. Seeing monster hunter world bosses animate at 120+ fps is insanely beautiful. That to me is more next gen. Being honest I'm dissapointed next gen is looking to be a 30 fps festival, but I'm hopeful that the implementation of fps over res options become standard due to it being an option in spiderman.

Lol no. But there are countless 30fps (or less) console games that I've played that would've been better if they hit 60fps.

Hell no. I'd turn them down further for 120+

On consoles, usually when I play a 60 fps game, all I think is that they look fine and wish all console games ran at 60.

No. Even if 60 FPS games didn't feel better, panning the camera at 30 FPS is such a mess that it negates any potential benefits.

you know... 60fps menus... are pretty dope. Same with text progression in like an rpg, with the 'text bubble'.

I recall horizon zero dawn had 60fps menus/map? Scrolling down lists is just objectively better at higher refresh rates. Hence the push for higher refresh rates and responsiveness on smartphones.
