2022 Video Game Awards Season - Tracking and Discussion Thread (New!: Categories and Genre Winners added)

One could only imagine the next game that'll surpass the 400 goty awards.
If GTA 6 or TES 6 launches like a year like this but without a game like Ragnarok easily, but that's so unlikely now that we're full force into next gen, maybe if Zaki gives us bloodborne 2.

Last two Rockstar games didn't win most GOTYs of their respective years and Bethesda game design is not that appreciated anymore, no chance unless they make something radically different.

Tally updated. ER at 410 409. Stray back in the game with 2 whole wins. And lord only knows if GOW will manage to break into the 100s.
Total is at 599 including the ineligible awards (keeping in mind there's a bunch of them that were counted on previous years).
I think its obvious who's the overall winner so I won't call it yet cause I'm waiting for third place too look at bit more definitive.

Aside from the fact that he's banned here, as a former fan I'm pretty sure these lists are personal choices.
Its too late now, but I'll probably change the Podcast rules to be a bit more clear. Removing the domain rule was a good choice imho but I have a hard time measuring the popularity and how much is enough to be considered a reliable source.

Those 2 Podcasts have low followers and Mega Dads GOTY seems to be a personal list.

I was personally disappointed to see that dropped in gameawards.net, it gave a fair shake to games that didn't earn the #1 pick for game of the year.

People said this about TGA but basically all the categories GoW won were ones Elden Ring wasn't even trying in. Narrative, performance, etc. are basically all poised for a game like GoW to win. A game isn't the sum of its parts. Ragnarok may do these individual things better (and also has nominations that Elden Ring didnt), but for the holistic experience, Elden Ring just hit with more voters.
