Discovered the X68000 because of this absolute banger and the more I've read about it the more I want one.

Never thought I'd see a post about Namachuukei Baseball 68 on here! Absolutely killer soundtrack. You're my new best friend.

X68000 fucks so hard. Cannot wait to grab this. Now give me an FM Towns Marty mini next.

Oh wait, never mind... you are my new best friend.

Never played it, but i listened to so much soundtrack from it, it's fire!

Will have to try this one on principle.

Anyways, my wishlist:

Akumajo Dracula
Star Trader - a shmup by Falcom, naturally with a killer soundtrack
Algarna - a Ys 3 wannabe that's no where near as good but has a killer Koshiro soundtrack
Etoile Princess - fun overhead shooter
Metal Orange EX - a h-game arkanoid clone, with a wicked Hitoshi Sakimoto soundtrack
Gradius II
Detana Twinbee
Die Bahnwelt - futuristic action RPG
Emerald Dragon - popular PC RPG of the day with a cool setting and good story
The weird port of Ys II with the realistic art style
The requisite Capcom and Sega arcade ports

And the obligatory music links:

I'm curious about how many games are on the platform that are not available elsewhere. Arcade ports feel a bit redundant unless you have specific nostalgia for these particular conversions, as most big arcade titles are available as perfect ports on modern hardware.

Aquales needs to be there.
There's tons of perfect arcade ports, most impressive being Capcom CPS1 stuff, but what's the point

O.o, they're gonna have a mechanical keyboard and a mouse as well?
This is not gonna be cheap.
Maybe in the range of Sega's mini arcade cabinets?

Hopefully it has Mad Stalker: Full Metal Forth
Afaik only the Megadrive version is any good.

I'm really wondering what can show up on this, most games are available elsewhere in a better form abd outside of doujin or softporn there's really not that much to play (avout 300 official games if not less)

Although it's true that arcade perfect ports can be obtained elsewhere, I'm still interested in this because of the different MIDI soundtracks.

For this same reason I'm eager to play Final Fight CD on the Genesis Mini 2: There are better ports on many platforms, but the Mega CD version's music arrangement is unique. Better than the Arcade even.

Also, that awesome X68000 Castlevania game is trapped on the PS3's PS store.

If I can use that keyboard on a MiSTer that would be swell.

As it stands some of the special keys are kinda a kludge to use.

It would be interesting if it came with something similar to SX-Window or Ko-Window installed (especially with the Mouse and Keyboard) but I'm not sure if it would make much sense without some way of getting files on the thing. Maybe it will have an SD card slot to stand in for the floppies.

E: Honestly kinda looks like SD card slots on the front anyway.

Omg this looks perfect 🤩 Hopefully the library will be great but it's almost worth it for the hardware alone!

why in god name would they go with white plastic

shits gonna be yellow af in 20 years
Isn't it supposed to be grey like the X68000?
Those seem like renders, so its probably better to wait for the final product.

Although i'm still baffled as to why they wouldn't start with a black version.
It's so sick.

They look like USB devices so I don't see why they wouldn't work

With a usb adapter they could be very cheap and good options for actual x68k units because keyboards and mouses are expensive as…

I missed this news somehow, I need this. Hopefully we'll be able to actually buy one without issue.

That song in the second video is a totally smooth remix of Space Manbow's ending theme (just in case anyone else wanted to know...).

lol, nice! One of my favorites, too. Whole soundtrack here if anyone's interested. Get major league hyped.

Some of their other sports games have some real gems, too, like Pennant Race 2 (MSX, though).

I'm probably playing it up too much in my head, but I'd totally want to get one of these minis if it has an operating system on it--tools to make graphics, sound, programming, whatever. I'd love the tinkering and creation aspect.

The price of this might be in hundreds of dollars. A totally custom mechanical keyboard with small micro switches alone seems like it would be pretty expensive.

There is an application form for the "Hacker's Edition" linked on the website, and that version at least going off the survey questions seems limited/restricted to potential developers making software for the device. Says experience with embedded development or x68k software required (among other things). Survey will be open for the rest of the month it seems.

"Early Access Kit" to be released Spring 2023 after collecting feedback on "Hacker's Edition", more details soon.

Seems like they're trying to milk this for what they can while also limiting their audience? Hopefully the final version will be easy enough to get

Not sure you can read into any of that yet. Could be that only applies for the Hacker Edition (essentially a dev kit). Could be they don't want to imply any sort of support or guarantee for any overseas customers or other languages. Definitely would expect little to no English. But the final product (however many iterations away that is) I would hope would land on Amazon Japan/Ami Ami or similar.

And there's always a proxy, which is what I'm intending to use.

That post and response is 100% about applying for the Hacker Edition, not the final retail unit. The expectation is that you will build something, give feedback and communicate back with the team.
