BIPOC athletes and celebrities have a massive platform in the US that isn't afforded to BIPOC scholars or leaders. So, if they choose not to speak up the message they are conveying never gets out to the masses. That said, it is fair to say that they shouldn't have the burden to do so and they often end up looking like hypocrites when choosing not to speak up on other issues.
Counter point, if you have the sort of status LeBron has then you have an obligation to be a role model to those who idolize you or at the very least to those who are your audience. This can include highlighting social issues that need more attention.

Lebron has mostly spoken about issues that matter and are important and this jackass trying to stifle that is pretty fucked up. With that said, Lebron has expressed similar sentiments about not rocking the boat when it comes to China so he's certainly pretty flawed when it comes to this conversation as well.
