While he probably is at the trail end of his career which is why he was willing to finally come out and endorse now, I am not totally sold he will be totally outside the mainstream film industry for good. I doubt most people who don't actively follow this stuff would make a big deal about it say, 3 years from now if Trump loses and if they did, a boycott would probably end up backfiring anyway.

Don't take that as an endorsement or apology for the guy, he's been on my shit list for a long time which is part of why I never bothered with Shazam 2 even though I was interested in it.

Eh, I kinda feel like outside of voicing Flynn in various Tangled things he's probably not getting anything noteworthy his way anyways, and even moreso now. Like, maybe he gets a cameo in the new DC stuff thanks to Shazam but I'm not sure how he'd jump back into relevance after endorsing the guy a good chunk of Hollywood loathes.

Dave's political leanings have never been in doubt by anyone who's familiar with him and how he grew up. Dude was raised by his lesbian mother in DC and San Francisco. Republicans are the antitheses of his being.

It's such a half-assed endorsement too. It's like three minutes of saying, "The guy I actually wanted had to drop out so I guess I'll endorse the other guy."

if someone's career went to shit because of issues of quality and their reaction was to publicly convert to my political ideology and tie the two things together I would probably say thanks but no thanks

guess they're really desperate for any cultural legitimacy but as we saw with Gina Carano trying to get back into Disney it doesn't really last long

It's choosing a very different, but sadly potentially lucrative path in his career. On the celebrity scale, Levi is a Democrat 3/10 but a Republican 8/10. He can make a very healthy career out of shitty faith based and right wing films targeted towards republicans.

Is it lucrative? I know occasionally there'll be a break out hit but I don't imagine he's gonna get Shazam money from movies that don't clear 30 million at the box office.

I mean he'll get paid. He won't be making AAA Hollywood bank, but he isn't doing that in Hollywood right now either. I just think he's considered box office poison in traditional Hollywood, so there's more opportunity for him going that route.

Nobody is saying it is going to ruin his career.

He already ruined his career and has been in failure after failure. Dude is on the grift pipeline now. He'll probably get hired to do Flynn Rider every time Disney needs his voice and that will be the most mainstream thing he'll ever be in moving forward because he was already on the decline for his career.

Not familiar with this guy so I took a look at his filmography, and it appears he's never been in a single decent movie. Maybe he'll make more interesting career decisions on the grifting circuit.

Well it's probably Shazam 2 and Purple Crayon that pushed his career off a cliff. If anything this is a desperate move to at least get some right wing media traction so he can make money in that sphere, though odds are he just ends up going the James Woods route where -everything- dries up except for Twitter diatribes and podcast guest spots.

Right his career wasn't going great regardless.

But multiple people have said career suicide, a few others claiming he'll only do Christian and/or right wing movies.

He'll likely still get work well beyond that IMO. Will it be a bunch of mainstream movies? Unlikely but that was already unlikely. But I seriously doubt he won't be in any at all here or there as some side character, or as a voice actor.

To be fair, she was posting really vile stuff on social media. Where Levi is just going to be viewed as a conservative voter. I am sure this will hurt him, but it's not the same.

That didn't happen because she was a Trump supporter though, you have to go viral for something worse then that and she did. She also lacks in experience, charisma and talent relative to Levi. He's no leading man or great character actor but he is a competent actor within his niche of "bland and a bit doofy but some find it endearing."

Look I think being a Trump supporter at all is absolutely awful but it's not shocking to people like Gina's posts were and corporate Hollywood doesn't care THAT much nor do wide swaths of their audience.

I was a fan of Chuck back in the day and I liked the first Shazam movie. Heck, I even liked him in the small role he had on Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

That Levi always plays the goofy, light-hearted, nice guy role is a real contrast to him supporting Trump and his hateful ideology.

he's D-list now and rapidly descending, but he starred in a couple of major movies in 2023 and 2024, plus he was the title character of a network show back before streaming almost completely broke network TV. His peak was probably B-list, maybe B+.

It wasn't good, but it was a lot of fan service. And Levi wasn't that bad in it. His acting has gotten worse over the years; he wasn't this bad an overactor back then.
