He's a rich white male who suffers no consequences from any politics in this country. I really don't give a fuck what he thinks, especially as he's telling Biden supporters they need to be the ones to extend the olive branch instead of Trumpers.

Everybody is so happy biden won but nobody seems to be listening to his message...yes the trumpers are disgusting, but somethings gotta give. The US cannot constantly be in this state of civil uncertainty. Someone needs to extend an olive branch, open dialog and try to educate these brainwashed idiots

I mean, fuck trumpers. Fuck racists, bigots, and anyone who willingly suppresses others simply because they are different

But.... there are 71 million people (well.. more.. there are 71 million voters) who think differently from Biden voters.

Are many of them happy to suppress others because they are different? Oh yeah. But there are also many who are simply uneducated, and indoctrinated, who simply aren't going to magically change their views.

As someone who sits firmly left of center, I'm not to here to say there are good people on both sides. But as long as both sides say "fuck the other side" this will continue to escalate and go back and forth.

As long as there are people who sit in the center, it will keep going back and forth.

Until someone (many someones) reaches out an olive branch to figure out differences, and provide education, nothing will change... At all.

The only way to truely make changes is through education, cooperation and killing them with kindness

Why can't anyone on the GOP do this?

Why is it always the Democratic party that needs to mend bridges and make peace?

I'm sorry, but those 70 million people will not lose a single damn thing from progressive policies, hell it would only improve their own quality of life.

POC and LGBTQIA+ people don't need to put up with this bullshit so white Americans can be friendly with one-another.

I genuinely don't know how you can be "gripped with fear" over Joe Biden. There's nothing frightening about him. He's completely vanilla.

I wish he was frightening for the right. That would've been something.

All this right here. it must be so nice to have no skin in the game so you can have naïve takes like Levi's.

When I voted for Biden in this election I did because I believed that he would make every Americans life better. Trump supporters are voting for Trump because they believe that he will harm the Americans they don't like. Those two things are not comparable or equal.

In closing Trump voters can eat shit and I hope they choke on it.

How about this:

I will continue to fight, advocate, and organize for policies that aim to treat the people in my community with dignity and equity: free health care, free education, equitable wages for their labor, reallocation of public funds away from militarized law enforcement and towards social services, equitable access to housing, addressing climate change and environmental justice issues in our community, food security, etc..

These will be the ways I show sympathy and empathy to Trumpers and conservatives: to fight for a community where we all win. That includes them btw. But I'm not going to waste one second of my life showing deference to their anxieties.

Uranus, get it?!? YOUR. ANUS.
Attempting to directly change the mindsets of Trump voters is just a time-wasting, fruitless endeavor. Though I'd argue that provocation (for anyone looking to go down that road) isn't going to help things either.

Policy that benefits the majority of Americans -- progressive economic policies -- will do a lot more towards healing than speaking to the right's better angels. Give them a healthy economy, great health care coverage, access to good education, and a reformed improved police institution (whilst demonstrating healthy patriotism); basically take away the ammo for why a Dem-run govt isn't the way forward, and maybe we have a shot.

But I don't even see that happening. Not with a fractured, heavily partisan Congress.

Cause they are the irresponsible idiots. And please note im not speaking of the 10 millionish far right crazies....but there is a large amount of people who have not (yet) gone completely batshit insane.
To me, there is no other way, anything else only further divides the US and leads to another trump....except that time he actually might be smart and deceptive

2016: Be nice to Trump voters because they don't feel like they belong in this country.

2020: *Biden supporters voter for Biden because they don't feel like Trump wants to them to belong in this country*

Also 2020: "Be nice to Trump voters because they don't feel like they belong in this country."

ARGH! When are we going to get articles calling for kindness for Biden voters? WHEEEEEEEEEN are going to get articles with black and white pictures of a Biden supporter in Atlanta, Georgia looking out a window with a longing look in their eyes? Why aren't their letters about how the Republicans need to reach out to Dem supporters and move left on the major basis that they lost when they had an incumbent advantage?

For fuck's sake, the biggest "fuck you" to Trumpism for the past 4 years was shouted, and the issue is STILL about Trump supporters' feelings?

I kinda read that into it. He supposedly doesn't like Trump, but it seems like Zachary Levi is a Republican.

Otherwise you wouldn't use those words 'half of us are gripped with fear'. The only ones 'Gripped with fear' over Biden's policies are brainwashed by Fox, Facebook, or Q.

I mean, these people gleefully cheered on an open fascist, and many of them probably would have celebrated if their "socialist" enemies were tortured and murdered on a stage in front of the White House, so...

Also, notice how the outright evil child separation policy was A-OK as far as they were concerned. OK enough to support Trump's reelection anyway.

The "fears" of Trump supporters have always been bigoted, false bs they were force fed by the President & Fox News like BLM activists coming to kill them for being white or abortion doctors slaughtering their kids or Dems creating concentration camps for Christians or Biden jailing people for not using the right pronouns for trans people. They never had legitimate fears just boogeymen they used to scare themselves and justify their inhumanity & violence.

Sounds like those abusive spouses I have seen, who were cruel and merciless to their loved ones, then when the divorce comes they act like everyone they hurt is being mean to them.

Some of y'all asking to reach out. But like. We've had 4 years to see what Trump will do, and what the GOP is willing to tolerate and push for. We've had 4 years to understand them, and Trumpers and the GOP in general also had 4 years to come to terms with what is happening. And they still ended up voting en-masse for Trump, which means they're okay with the corruption, coarseness and incompetence for the past 4 years.

We're supposed to continue accepting even more of this bullshit? If their vote hasn't changed given what's been observed for the past 4 years, is that not a sign of them being okay with the GOP's overall atrocities? And like so many other folks have mentioned, what do they have to worry about with the coming Biden administration anyway?

So you guys want to say "fuck you" to 70 millions people? Your country is doomed then.

I might be willing to forgive some of the 63 million people who voted for him in 2016 when there is NO reason to do so. No one should entertain the thought of forgiveness to those 63 million if they've been on the receiving end of the the fear he's manifested. For this election? Yes, fuck them. They've been informed, seen the damage he's wrought, and supported the thought of 4 more years of damage to country, allies, human rights, and the environment.

Obama spent his whole presidency making racists feel comfortable and he was rewarded with Trump as his successor.

Something does have to give and for once it should be the side that's undermining democracy and trying to incite a civil war.

Yeah, this is 100% correct. This wasn't just an election, this was a race to survival. We did not simply defeat republicans, we defeated the notion of fascism itself embodied by Trump and this supporters. I say fuck them, no way I'm shaking hands with this kind of trash.
If does give me anxiety that the vote was still so close though. So many people can afford to look the other way when it comes to fascism.

aybe i am naive...but i prefer being naive and beleiving there is good in people than going full extremist...again, i want to preface that at least 20% of trumpers are too far gone. But there is a pathway to some. Just like some people disavow scientology, some people can disavow trumpism

Whether he believes it or not, Biden is not going to dismiss half the country that didn't vote for him because it'll be a bad image on him.

Whereas a bunch of yahoos on a video game forum have no obligation to be nice to Trump voters because they're not in the public eye.

They voted for a fascist who disenfranchised entire communities of voters, lied about the severity of a potentially deadly virus resulting in deaths multiple times over the victims of 911, encouraged the kidnapping of democratic politicians for daring to listen to the recommendations of medical experts during the pandemic & egged on violence against black and brown people like myself for the crime of demanding humane treatment. Yes fuck them 100x over.

They don't deserve sympathy. It's an infection that needs to keep being fought against, not something that's just gone because we got a new president. They would be a hundred times worse if Trump won again and would never call for Unity. They can fuck right off.

Something I've cone to terms with in my limited life experience (not just politics but in general), if you try to turn someone being toxic by being comforting or accommodating to them in an attempt to win them over, it doesnt work. They just hide their real thoughts and take your niceties to mean approval.

It needs to be made absolutely 100% clear that voting for Trump, believing in his ideas and his platform are morally and ethically God-awful and inhumane.

That does not necesarily mean scorched earth but it means dont forgive someone who doesnt change. Dont be nice to someone still waving a Trump flag in their yard. When someone is open about their abhorrent views dont pretend like its live and let live.

The thing is, what are these "fears" and "concerns" that Trump supporters have? That Black people, women, and non-straight people will have rights and freedom as much as white, straight males?

Fuck all Trump supporters. Hope they all suffer.

Their entire platform was "owning the libs" and "hurting the right people". Their support was in favour of giving bullies and grifters validation and actively making the world a worse, more hateful place. They spent years believing conspiracy theories that their political rivals were literal satan-worshipping pedophillic monsters. They let rich tyrants gut whole factions of the government designed to give the US and the rest of the world a better tomorrow just because it made them feel better about others being upset even more about it. Being "the better person" just lead to severe backstabbing.

I am NEVER going to forgive Trump supporters for feeling this way or for enabling this horrible time of human history. If they're so worried about becoming villified, they can change the way they are. Until then they can fuck off to the absolute depths of the Mariana trench and feed off whale carcases for all I care about their feels.
