Watching Tokyo Active NEETs cover "Splattack" from Splatoon live makes me happy every time:



And then there's MasterDirox's simple remix of "Paula's Theme" from Earthbound. The first time I heard "Paula's Theme" in the game, the song's breakdown made me drop my controller and listen. This cover nails that breakdown completely:



Finally, Shiryu has been remixing -- or actually sort of reconstructing -- the music of the Metroid series though a meaty synth, Vangelis-inspired lens for a 70-track project called "Metroid Legacy: The Samus Aran Chronicles." I've been really into these two tracks so far:

If any of you Final Fantasy music fans need some mood music for working/studying, I can't recommend this guy enough:



He does down-tempo piano/instrumental covers of entire FF soundtracks and compiles them into these videos. He's done FF6 through FF10 as well as Chrono Trigger, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda, and The Last of Us. Really tastefully arranged and well executed.

I really really really like the "Four Heroes Medley" by Tetrimino. Somehow taking out all instruments except the 4 they use, and also combining the songs like they did works really well.

BKMJMBOX is in my opinion the best game music-playing, guitar player on YouTube. Too bad he disappeared without a trace.

there's way too much that i like, almost all of my youtube subscription are cover/remix channels! But one of my favourite is Jake kaufman's (Shantae, contra 4, Shovel knight, double dragon neon) remix of the FF6 opera, queen style :

The fucking effort and quality he put in his cover is freaking amazing

My favourite videogame cover band on Youtube's gotta be Meine Meinung (I think Mitsuda liked and shared one of their Chrono covers). Their interpretations always stay true to the original's core but they add their own flavours to them.

Their recent collaboration with another band, Sanzan-Sekai, has produced 4 amazing pieces:

I really love that they always have a good time. Perfect for sitting back and chilling.

For a Japan-only indie shmup franchise, Touhou has an obscene amount of fan remixes.
Cirno's Perfect Math Class - a cover of Beloved Tomboyish Daughter from Touhou: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.

Bad Apple!! - a lyrical cover of said song from Touhou: Lotus Land Story.
