I guess they could have wrote favourite depiction.. Even ROS is in the same continuity with the fucking nonsense 'they sold you to protect you'
Yes, thanks for your input.
'half decent writer' is some smug and hefty way of putting it. I guess if they don't have the same view as you, they're not a decent writer?Legends easily. He was barely in The Mandalorian for more than two scenes so he doesn't really count as a character and more of a spectacle and I do not like what The Last Jedi did to him, either.
In some Legends stories they got carried away obviously but I still like the idea that Luke went on, after the original trilogy, to rebuild the Jedi Order and find some semblance of success in life. It's easy to be cynical and say he failed, but it means more for him to succeed and allows for much more interesting stories.
As any decent writer would tell you, the character's success or failure should guide the story. The story should never guide the successes or failures of its characters, which is a mistake the sequel trilogy made. Luke didn't fail because it would be reasonable for him to fail, he failed because the writers - Abrams and Johnson - didn't want Jedi running around in a story where the good guys had to be the underdogs again.
His appearance in TLJ is maybe the best thing about the entire sequel trilogy, and the one thing TLJ haters really got wrong (I think the movie actually does have quite a few issues, it's just that Luke is not one of them)
Takes like these are why TLJ fans get a bad rep.TLJ Luke is some of the best character work in Star Wars. Legends and Mando were made for the man babies at Collider.
I agree, his death scene was great. Halted the FO and united the morale of the rebels, not a single sword strike. I can't think of a better death scene.TLJ. Hamill is so damn good. Even if you hate the movie, his final stand on Crait has gotta check all the boxes.
Did he really have to die though? I dunno, I get the idea for it and execution but it just felt like... not really a victory?I agree, his death scene was great. Halted the FO and united the morale of the rebels, not a single sword strike. I can't think of a better death scene.
its the failing that several writers fall into and its a poor writing trap. Kill or depower the original character so they don't over shadow the new characters. Luke absolutely didn't need to die, but again he did so the new characters weren't overshadowed, but a good writer can keep the old characters alive without overshadowing the new ones, too many writers do this and its a crutch and a sign of poor writingDid he really have to die though? I dunno, I get the idea for it and execution but it just felt like... not really a victory?
Like I get it, hope for the future and the barn kid but...meh it just felt like "Wait they're still SUPER effed, no? "
legends where he was still with his friends and family, made up for his mistakes, successfully trained a new order of jedi, had a person he loved and a child a person who's message didn't say you will grow old bitter and alone the one that said you can be accomplished and still be people you loved
He didn't have to die, you know there are loads of ways to tell a story, I think it made sense for his character he would give everything he has, to give the heroes a chance in the final act, and potentially inspire the next generations.Did he really have to die though? I dunno, I get the idea for it and execution but it just felt like... not really a victory?

his death was never necessary he could have inspired the new generation and still be aliveAfter TROS his death in TLJ was unnecessary. I wish they followed up with it properly in Ep 9.
Those damn TLJ fans!
So was the OT
