Yo dark souls peeps im hardstuck on sif at level 39. I get one tapped with his spin move even shielding it seems.

Should i just go to blighttown and say fuck this or what lol. I have a +4 halberd and the drake sword…

It's still possible to defeat sif at your level, however it's not recommended, getting one shooted is a signal that you should go elsewhere or are not investing enough points in Vitality. (Giving your SL, I would say... Go elsewhere)

I think we'll definitely start getting bangers as soon as next year (we already got some in 2021), but I think the Xbox brand comes all together later in Xbox Series life and in the next generation. Similar to PlayStation and their studios which didn't pick up till 2015/16 and then PS5 had a lot of momentum due to it. I suspect that's the massive momentum we'll see going into next Xbox generation.

We just need to figure out if this momentum is somewhat shareable, because I have a hard time believing that people will switch the "Playstation exclusives" to whatever Xbox brings to table. Not everyone can afford two consoles, so with another weak year (2022) Microsoft just lost a lot of mindshare. It is an empty year against God of War.
They're 5-10 years behind imo.

Almost just almost as if these announcement trailers that are shown years ahead of the new game release is to get people to join the studio! I still don't get why people don't understand that haha.

People have been saying lately that these teasers aren't for hiring purpose and just to hype fans up and they shouldn't announce things early like that and people always tell those people the same thing that it's more for hiring and they always downplay that.

yeps this.
Also last e3 showcase was nearly all gameplay :)

Man I really wish we knew what was going on with Series sales in Japan.

Like I get the prevailing theory was that Famitsu was vastly overestimating numbers, but still seeing it do about 1k+ a week is a gut punch considering we use to have a 3-5K baseline.

Still better than the One I guess for the bright side, but I got use to seeing those 3+k numbers a week.

The one more thing will always be something further out, almost all games which are shown off early on are also CGI it is an industry norm and how can anyone expect them to show off gameplay that early when it's trying to find staff to work on it. It being a CGI trailer and being the one more thing doesn't matter, people have been asking for Fable for a long time so they were excited.

It's funny to me that we have people who say the gaming industry needs to be less secretive and show us stuff to let us know what they're working on but then complain there isn't a 10 minute slice of near perfect gameplay. If they don't show anything then it's why are they hiding the game they're working, is something wrong with the game, why is it taking so long and so on.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the 2021 or 2022 showcase? they both had a ton of gameplay. Perfect Dark wasn't even shown at their showcase lol it was an announcement at TGAs and again it was to get people to join the team as it was a brand new studio. The 2020 showcase was bad for CGI, I won't deny that but every one after that has had tons of gameplay.

folks have select memories ;p

Yeah honestly it's been super disappointing, really not sure what's going on. I was really hoping Japan was finally starting to embrace Xbox which could have led to some interesting developments (such as more investments from MS on Japanese games). Hoping to see a bumb when Rise launches on GP day 1 at least

look the sales xbox did really well for an empty year.

They will sold +10M xboxes this year first time since 360 era.

And I think xbox overall will make type of games that industry doesn't have, so it will be much easier for user acquisitions.

Don't know the exact numbers, but yes.
Microsoft's Fiscal Year 2022 Q4 financial reporting has confirmed just how successful xbox's efforts have been. The latest reporting confirms that Fiscal Year 2022 has been Xbox's best year ever.

But I still think that MS has production problems and a year with 100 exclusive titles won't really change much.
Yes it's better than the other ones but still..

Yeah I'm going to see numbers on paper for these sales figures.

I've been lurking on InstallBase and they paint a grim picture in relative terms.

2:1 again...

It is worrying that the xbox sales in Japan have cratered. It is essentially doing xbox one numbers now. I am not really sure how they can fix it except try and continue making gamepass as attractive as possible with as many games as possible.

I don't think they cratered, I don't think they were accurate in the first place.

I used to be apart of Team "No Way Famitsu a professional industry magazine would overestimate numbers" but it does appear to be in fact the case.

Famitsu vastly overestimated sales numbers for Series consoles and gave a false sense of progress in Japan.

It's still better than Xbox One, but it's not doing what we thought.

Real "wind of the sails" moment for me.

It's not gonna help a ton in Japan if you're just adding games that have been on the other platforms for years.

As much as I'd like to see them do better in Japan the push for these games is still primarily a benefit to western audiences.

That's not sales figures tho.
xbox has said that the series are selling better than both the one and the 360 two years in and they still are not being able meet the demand for the hardware, you either believe that or don't lol

also regarding famitsu, still on the big doubt side of things. end of the year was mostly slow on the xbox side so it doesn't surprise me that sales cratered like that, especially with hardware being sent to places that sell more xboxes than japan

i don't think we'll see a change of 2:1 (maybe higher) in this generation, though. (worldwide) playstation is too strong for a lot of reasons.

Wanted to make a thread but realized I don't have enough posts on resetera to create one so I'll ask here:

How close was Microsoft to leaving the console market last gen? I wasn't really paying attention to the gaming industry from like 2011-2019 and looking back I didn't notice how bad things were, or at least how bad they appeared to be. I heard rumblings on Defining Duke a few months ago that in 2016 Microsoft was within 2 weeks of killing the Xbox brand and going third party.

It's crazy to think how different this gen would be if the only new console was the PS5, or how insane it would be to only have Nintendo and Sony producing consoles.

It probably will be 2:1 again. I'm not gonna sugar coat it. Last gen was quite possibly the WORST gen to fumble the bag. Couple that with the last few years of 360 and you've got a whole generation of kids that don't fuck with Xbox like they should've. It's not going to recover this generation. Plus Microsoft doesn't push consoles the way they should imo. They push Gamepass. I don't even see commercials for Series X just Series S. And even then it's not great. A lot of their marketing is internet based. They need to do better reach out to parents and grandparents too.

Phil Spencer has said there were discussions on why they were in the business. Don't think there is anything more concrete than that.

Its because gamepass is their ultimate goal. Xboxes are just the main way to get gamepass; there are also pcs, phones, now built into some tvs. As long as they see that subscription number going up, they are happy.

i predict 70-80M.

Xbox one sold well the 2 first year then in 2016/2017/2018 the whole interest and sales go down each year when PS4 reach the skies.

I think this gen it will be vastly different since year after year they First party offer will go up. 2023 is really important tho

It'll be a launch title for the next Xbox I think, could be huge.
I am expecting the same.

TES VI being the launch title of next Xbox (next-gen only) will be the next best start of the gen since Halo: CE - OG Xbox. Hopefully mid and late Xbox Series gen will start steady exclusive release.

Hellblade II
Starfield
Fable
Perfect Dark
Everwild
State of Decay 3
Avowed
The Outer Worlds 2
inXile's next game
Indiana Jones
Kojima's Xbox game
id Software's next game

All I need from this generation are the games above. I can wait for games like Fallout 5, TES VI, Prey 2, Wolfenstein III.

I'm enjoying my Series X but I fear losing what I've invested digitally down the road. I would quit gaming lol.

I wonder if a mid-gen refresh that pushed the console beyond the PS5 would do anything for the brand. Doesn't seem likely without the games.

Even when I look at the list of upcoming games, I worry about how much effect the majority will have towards today's gamers.

I wouldnt worry about it as Microsoft would likely keep the stuff accessible and running even if they pulled out. The cost of keeping the servers for downloads running in Azure is probably minuscule in that scenario and the alternative of pulling a Stadia and refunding everything is prob not ever gonna happen.

I get that but you still gotta push consoles too. That gonna be the biggest subscriber base. Gamepass is best on Xbox consoles. Beyond that I don't see anything on anything beyond YouTube from Xbox hardly. Not at the rate I see PlayStation stuff, even if it's just a commercial from a co-marketed game.

Starfield has to be a hit. Has to be. Console bundles, Collector's Editions, TV spots, "from the makers of Skyrim" on everything, bring out the only on Xbox branding again.
