If you want to talk about Microsoft leaving the console business then feel free to do it elsewhere. This thread is about Microsoft's 1P studios. Any further derailment on this will be met with threadbans.

It does sound like this is actually coming sooner than later, but I'll be disappointed if they don't fully replace the default AA battery controller. This should be coming with every Xbox out of the box.

vixolus for what it's worth, the leaked documents did say the controller would be $70. I just figured with the WiFi chip and everything, it'd be more expensive than the DS. Stadia controller was also $70 IG.

So many studios still with TBD / NA as a current project, definite feel we'll be getting more in 2024 than we know about at the moment

I'm guessing it's 2025 at the earliest, but I'm ready for this new OT to contain some new footage of South of Midnight at some point 🤞🏾

And a New True Crime would be awesome as well.
Also new Singularity and Prototype please. Rocksteady and Insomniac Games showed that how super hero games can be done well. I am sure a talented studio under Xbox can do a new Prototype. Also Singularity and Prey sequels would make sci-fi fans like me feast.

I mean you're talking about the features not mattering to consumers, not the cost of the features. A feature not mattering because cloud gaming is niche doesn't change the cost of adding a WiFi chip onboard and engineering a seamless way to switch between BT, WiFi, PC, Xbox, and cloud. The Lift to Wake with the accelerometer would require a very low power state that can read the accelerometer and turn on the console would likely increase cost more than just included a basic accelerometer onto the controller. The battery might not be internal but the slides did mention it'll come with batteries. Right now the Xbox Core controller is $60, with some different styles coming in at $70+ and that doesn't have a battery, haptics, accelerometer, WiFi chip, and very likely lower quality materials.
Sure, but you said "set it apart" implying features that justify the (in your expectation) an increased pricetag over the DualSense. The controller costs as much as it does currently with some styles going to $70+ because the margins on controllers are huge and they want to keep it that way. A controller with some extra parts internally will still have a huge margin. I don't see a world where Xbox sells a $80 controller while PS will have a more compelling feature set to most consumers for $70. A middle-of-the-road type premium controller would probably be Elite Series 2 Core tier of about $100ish, vs an Elite Series 3 around $200 like it is now or the DualSense Edge.

The internal docs also called Sebille the "Core Controller" so it would be a direct replacement, probably with just a small bump to $70 in line with the competition/inflation/whatever.

And it remains to seen if the controller ended up being fully featured/funded in the end.

Was this in those leaked documents? (and were those legit?) I'm happy to know how Xbox controller would wear pants though.
I was far more curious about Xbox making what appeared to be a handheld system. I mean I get it but i can't people picking it up over something like the Deck or just using their own cloud gaming setup?

Maybe i don't understand though.

Yeah, the leaks were legit. They were never working on a handheld though, that product pyramid was showing what they could and couldn't realistically produce atm

This slide is from a leaked internal presentation. They came straight from Microsoft, it was submitted as evidence during the FTC case and Microsoft accidentally gave them an unredacted version.

I'm pretty sure the talk about Xbox making a handheld is just wishful thinking from people here and elsewhere online.

  • On renegotiating the Indiana Jones game's terms at the request of Microsoft to make it Xbox/PC exclusive, after Microsoft bought its development studio: With "Xbox still being one of the bigger marketplaces for games, we didn't feel like we were going to be overly exclusionary. We felt like it's still going to reach a broad set of folks, and we felt, financially and strategically for the game, that made sense at the time."

I look forward to Xbox making a controller with gyro, Valve making the gyro work on PC a week later, and then Microsoft adding official support on Windows after at least another year. If not more, there's a very real chance that GameInput just won't be ready by the time this new controller launches.

To me it reads like "at the time" is directly referencing the renegotiation, but it can unfortunately be read as if making a statement on how that might have changed since so you are right about the length of the thread.
You just have the decide if they are publicly insulting the partner working on their game. If you assume they aren't publicly insulting their working partner they are then clearly referencing the renegotiation.

Ah, that new OT aroma. Yet another round of the most vibrant platform OT on Era.

Absolutely no idea what the title is referring to though. 😃

edit: ah, got it. Very, very good. Seen that movie so many damn times I'm somewhat alarmed I didn't recognize the line. 🤷‍♂️

So the Developer_Direct was announced on Jan 11th and aired on Jan 25th.
Assuming they're planning another one, mainly because the one this year seemed very well received, hopefully we get roughly the same timeline, though I wouldn't mind an announce and air window that's either the same week or within a week of the announcement.

Wonderful OT as always! Hopefully we can have some nice conversations and discussions on the future of Xbox.

as long as that future includes Banjo and Kazooie

I've said it before, but my gut tells me the next one will a bit later in the year.

I think it's pretty obvious they were talking about the negotiations..

Yeah, I totally agree. I'm just saying it can be read differently and so the thread will inevitably be shit.

I think Feb this year. I would love January, but they really went big in December so I feel like they probably think Xbox fans are satiated enough for a few months before they pump us back up.

I think it really depends on what they have planned for release in first half of the year. If it's empty because most of the projects are second half of the year, I suppose you could do it in like March/April or something for games that aren't going to get a lot of air time at the Summer Showcase.

Not getting a release date for HB2 last week is kinda annoying mainly because we're going to see it again before we finally get a date and release. I don't see them just casually dropping the date either, it'll be part of some marketing beat like a developer direct.

i honestly dont think those features really matter as cloud gaming is still giga niche, battery life depends on the batteries inside which likely won't be internal anyway (xbox controllers already have good battery life so that isn't "more" differentiating), and life to wake is kinda whatever beyond the first 2 seconds you pick it up. It just sounds like using an accelerometer.
I mostly game on PC and i can't wait for this. DualSense isn't great on PC wireless, it's nowhere near as reliable as the Xbox wireless controller via official dongle which just works "out the box" flawlessly with every game, and the haptics don't work wireless on DS anyway.

This new Xbox controller will become the defacto on PC over time, and we'll see wider haptics support on the platform as a result.

It would be nice with a date for anything launching before "E3", so it seems likely to happen. The bigger question is, will it have a shadowdrop?

I know we can't expect one every time, but with Hi-Fi and AoE4 I'm kinda getting used to them and want one :D

April is getting too close to E3 for comfort. I think March is even too close if we are talking about the end. Maybe announce in Feb and it might end up being beginning of March.

I think Feb is the sweet spot tho.
