I'm not expecting anything. Canada is already a winner just by making it to the World Cup. Do we get a participation ribbon?
I think most Canadians feel the same, including the coaches and players. A team with no pressure and expectations on them can be pretty damn dangerous. Enjoy the experience and don't make anything easy for the other team.

I put a $100 bet in for Mexico to win the whole thing last year at the Bellagio in Vegas. Looks like I'm one step closer. I locked in with worse odds too so better payout.

Hope for a Mexico getting kicked out from the group phase, and in a hilarious way.

Give me some good "Futbol Picante."

Canada's group is still better than 1986, I'll take it. If we win a game that's also good enough for me.

English arrogance back on full display after the draw. I would love nothing more than a nice three and out for them if this keeps up.
Being confident about going through isn't arrogance. It's an 'easy' draw by everyone's estimation and there doesn't even appear to be a group of death.

Brazilian TV think we'll be taking them on in the final.

I realise England got rid of some of its demons when they knocked Germany out of the Euros but the chances of them beating France and Portugal, two teams who they've lost to in hilarious ways in the past, in the same tournament is very optimistic.

Unless Iran or Ukraine go on a mythical run, Group B is just an anglo slap fight lol

England really did get lucky here, drawing the struggling US as their toughest opponent, and Group A as their reward in R16

Spain and Germany will coast in group E unless they underperform spectacularly. Group H is hard to predict, but none of those nations are contenders so I wouldn't call it a group of death anyway.
Someone referred to it as the "Group of Life" since they all have a chance of advancing. I think it was H anyway

Not if you're also trying to teach a lesson whilst the kids team is playing. I can just picture England v Scotland happening whilst I'm trying to teach a bunch of English kids as a Scot.

You're the most optimistic Scot I've ever met!

Just because they're not contenders doesn't mean it's not a group of death, Group H is a very difficult group for any of the teams to get out of, hence it's a group of death. Japan are well capable of an upset in Group E as well, the Germans aren't the same side they were, although we'll learn a lot more about them in the upcoming Nations League games.

Believe me I don't think we will qualify - and to be honest, I'd love Ukraine to for obvious reasons - but the kids at school will be awful if we do and proceed to lose to England. I had nice kids tell me before the Euro match England would smash Scotland 7-0.

Also, If people think this place is bad for 'it's coming home', then imagine every lesson hearing that about 10 or so times, mixed in with Siu and Let's go here and there.

As a Moroccan, I'm pretty optimistic of our chances. Sure, Belgium and Croatia were semi finalists during the last WC, but that's the past! I have never watched Canada play, so I have no idea how good they are. But they haven't been in a WC in decades.

England never lost to France in a World Cup game.
They've also not met at the WC since 82. France has since won two WC and two EC, while England still chases a second international trophy.

1 W (friendly) in 8 matches since 99 too, for 5 losses.
Safe to say their record against France is mostly awful, even taking into account that France had a way superior team for most of those time periods.

Well, no matter who gets through the playoff whether its us, Wales or Ukraine, they'll be the easy pick for me to support, especially in group B.

But the person was talking about England notoriously losing to them. Englands only real competitive loss was 2004 and it's not really that noteworthy of a loss to them as they still made it to the KO rounds.

Canada were the CONCACAF champs, don't underestimate them. Their backline and central midfield isn't great, but they have two solid outside backs in Richie Laryea and Alphonso Davies, a front three that's ruthless in Cyle Larin, Tajon Buchanan and Jonathan David, a trio of pretty good keepers and the supporting cast can get the job done on the day. They're very well coached.
