Fox kicked the can down the road the second the merger was official. 'I'm not going to be here when shit blows up so I ain't doing shit'
And it's not like the movies they had for the second half of the year were bangers (Ready or Not excluded).
Can you blame them? Its like what I see with retail employees when a store is closing/going out of business.

Is this a case of a studio over estimating the appeal of a movie? The Shining is a very well known movie with a few pop culture touchpoints, but how many people under the age of like 35 actually know or care about it?
I imagine they're familiar with its more popular cultural touchstones -- namely the twins and "Heeeeeeere's Johnny!" -- but very few of them have actually seen the film itself, which is bad news for anything pitching itself as a sequel. Not to mention that it features zero of the original cast, which obviously makes sense for logistical reasons but is not really conducive with box office success.
(It's also funny to me how pretty much every "Here's Johnny!" reference in 2019 is likely referencing The Shining, which was itself referencing Johnny Carson. The pop culture snake will forever be eating its own tail.)
Little did WB realize that the title Doctor Sleep also reflected the audiences' interest in the movie
I wonder if Joker is doing so well now cause every other movie that competes for the same demographic has been shit/uninteresting for general audiences thus far.
Interesting that Paul Feig makes a bugnuts crazy movie last year that somehow became a hit and this year he makes probably his most blatantly mainstream movie ever and it's gonna bomb

Disney will probably have no choice but to share the majority of blame should anything bad happen to Fox. It's a devious but smart move. No one forced them to buy Fox.

Oh right, nobody was talking about it.
It was, wish they had revisited more movies in that way. But personally it didn't hit me that hard because frankly I just don't care about The Shining all that much.
