They aren't even comparable. First Ori was mostly linear with a focus on platforming, Hollow Knight map completely opens up after a few hours and has a focus on combat.
One can be 100% in ~10h while the other takes 50h. Two completely different experiences.
not sexy enough, we need a hook to get people mad!
Yeeeeees, it took a while for this to come up.
Animal Crossing isn't either.not AAA enough
not Indie either
People like either the big blockbuster game they've been waiting for or the unexpected success story. Ori 2 was neither
Incredible game in my opinion
The Xbox / PC version had a lot of performance issues at release while the Switch port was pretty much flawless, I believe.
I dont think 30 fps has anything to do with the nominations...Not 3rd person cinematic (30 fps) single player campaign that can be beaten by 90% of players by just following the story beats
Yeah but Animal Crossing secured the "game that brought us together during a pandemic" narrative (above every other multiplayer game that released but that's a different discussion so ... whatever lol).
This pretty much. This is arguably the biggest year in games in the last decade with the amount that came out. It's not a slight on Ori.Lol there isn't some conspiracy against ori going on and why it didn't get nominated. Simply a crowded year when a lot of great games came out
Or, maybe people enjoyed it more than Ori.Yeah but Animal Crossing secured the "game that brought us together during a pandemic" narrative (above every other multiplayer game that released but that's a different discussion so ... whatever lol).
I mean Hades has gone basically toe to toe with TLOU2 and that is as indie as you can get for a game.It wouldn't have won anything anyway, indie games like that will never win anything big because some big AAA game that is really not very good came out as well.

Won't deny that it's a good game, but the prevailing compliment I hear about it is how it was the right game at the (unfortunate) right time.
The game was universally praised and got great reviews (it's metacritic score (Switch version) is the same as TLOU 2 and higher than Ghosts of Tsushima, Animal Crossing, Doom and AC: Valhalla).
Animal Crossing was nominated and Hades even won some awards. This narrative you're pushing really doesn't mean anything. Hell, Sekiro won last year. Your logic is flawed. Not 3rd person cinematic (30 fps) single player campaign that can be beaten by 90% of players by just following the story beats
Microsoft published it. Moon Studios are independent afaik.
Genre and first platform (Xbox). It's a damn shame too, because I think it's GOTY by a mile.
yeah, their next game is being published by Private Division iirc
Nintendo operates in a parallel universe. The same rules dont apply to them. Hence why they still have shitty online in 2020 and they don't get enough flak for it
Hades has all of those things, lol
Conspiracy theory time.Nintendo operates in a parallel universe. The same rules dont apply to them. Hence why they still have shitty online in 2020 and they don't get enough flak for it
Still not an indie game. Unless you think your avatar is indie series.
