specialists are free"Every Season will come with a new free and paid-for Battle Pass, delivering new content to chase after."
What about new specialists? Free or paid? (Pay2Win because skills?)
Even Sonic Colors remastered lolIt never stopped. SEGA does it too - P5S, Nocturne, Lost Judgment.
Because people like it, and pay for it, and in return publishers see that as people liking and paying for a thing. So they keep doing it. Simple.
Source pls? I mean, I believe you, I just need some official source to get the angry members on another forum to calm down.
The answer quite clearly is yes.Do people like paying more for the privilege of getting a game on its actual release date?
They never stopped. I don't know why you think they did. When some publishers started doing this a few years ago, it was considered as a really bad move and the industry stopped doing it.
They would if they could get away with it, but they can't. If the game is out in the wild for too long, people will no longer feel like it's "new" and won't feel compelled to pay full price. ("I might as well just wait for a price drop.")Im surprised they haven't expanded on this trend, actually. Like, have an arbitrary release date, and different "early bird" versions. $129.99 gets you a 2 months in advance, $99.99 gets you in a month, $79.99 two weeks early, something like that. You can then say your game is only $60, but let FOMO trigger people to buy that way more, double the cost version.

Jack says anything gameplay is included in the free tier of a season pass, and specialists are coming with seasons, so logically that means they're free, right?
Everything you need to know about 'Battlefield 2042' | Engadget
" Battlefield 2042 will include a Battle Pass system for seasonal content with free and premium tiers, though there won't be any maps or gameplay advantages locked behind the premium paywall, just cosmetic items. "
I think the only publisher that has stopped doing it is Ubisoft. There's a whole thread this week lamenting higher priced games purely because of FOMO. A lot of people can't help but feel terrible about not playing a game as soon as it's available.
Also, I don't think EA ever stopped doing this.
Because they keep doing it. If they weren't, publishers would stop offering it.
But videogame developers and companies are our friends...so it can't be that ;)Because it makes money.
These threads and the "Why are games $70?" threads are so confusing to me.
It's to make money. Always to make money.
The Year 1 pass includes: 4 new specialists, 4 battle passes, 3 epic skin bundles.
And even on Resetera a good number of users will gladly pay extra to play early for the right game.Because it was only really considered a "really bad move" on places like Resetera and places like Resetera don't matter.
They've also stated all gameplay related things will be free and that theres a free battle pass tier. Sounds like marketing to just make the special editions sound fancier. It helps stagger the server load a little bit, rather than having every single player hitting the servers on day 1.
Of course they still won't work.

The Year 1 pass is included with the Gold and Ultimate Editions, but not the Standard Edition.

Does anybody like paying more for anything? What does that have to do with liking it? Publishers offer things because it garners more money, not because people like it.
Do people like paying more for the privilege of getting a game on its actual release date or do they begrudgingly do so?
Does anybody like paying more for anything?
I've paid more for games digitally to play them at midnight rather than wait for them to be delivered the next day (maybe). Do I enjoy paying more? No, who the fuck would what a question. Am I willing to pay more for 12 hours early access, garunteed delivery and convenience? On occasion.
Do people like convenience and not having to wait? I think plenty do.

Game releases are withheld from people who can't afford them all the time.Wild idea here, what if the release of a game wasn't withheld for anybody?
Game releases are withheld from people who can't afford them all the time.
This game and many others already withold content without paying a premium. It has a battlepass along with the most successful games on the market designed to lock content to people who are just willing to pay more. It would be nice if it didn't exist and if that content was just free but you can live without it however people are willing to pay a premium for that crap and that's just the world we live in.Making a game available solely to one subset of customers willing to pay a markup for a period of time =/= being unable to afford a game.
if all versions will be available early, it won't be anymore early access but normal access…Title says it all. Why is early launch still a thing? When some publishers started doing this a few years ago, it was considered as a really bad move and the industry stopped doing it. Now, EA has done it again and provides access to BF2042 a full week early to the game. Gold edition is 90€ and Ultimate is 110€ compared to the standard price of 60€. I'm really disappointed behind this release strategy, they are horrible for players and fans of the series.
