2 scenarios like old school RE games...
Present day... BSAA headquarters in London.

And

20 years into the future... A devastated NYC including Coney Island

And then Resident Evil X on a Mars colony 🥴

Just a scene in the movies.

I think the bigger argument of not being in Japan is the lack of guns/usable weapons overall. As whack as a dude running around with a cheap/historical sword or something think they are cool would be, it's pretty impractical against like.... all the things in a typical RE story.

Unless it takes place exclusively in a JSDF base/Umbrella Lab or something. But that would kinda defeat the purpose of the setting imo. Just my overthinking on this location at least. But hey, its a video game, they can think of something if they want.

I'd like to be in a city setting again or at least it seems probable with a sophisticated lab etc too.

i mean, cops in japan carry guns, just like leon.

what would be less plausible is the notion that a given officer would be awesome at actually using one. but hey, maybe there's the horror angle

True enough. It would have to be some edge lord cool guy though in one of the specialized units like SWAT or taskforce type groups.

I don't know how interesting the gameplay would be for long with these dinky things haha

Whatever the setting ends up being, I hope it's designed like REmake2's RPD (or REmake's Spencer Mansion) and taken to even larger scale and complexity, and that the other gameplay systems and enemy design and placement facilitate backtracking and active route management and judgement calls. I'm really enjoying Village but my biggest qualm is that because of the lack of inventory management, and discrete placement of enemies (as well as incentives for killing them), removes a lot of tension in navigating the game world; even in sections that are designed like classic RE from a level standpoint, like the castle, fall flat in this regard because you are rarely pressured to consider which route to take because the enemies are all in one spot and you don't have to trek back to an item box.

I have always thought an RE game set before the events of RE1 would be cool. Imagine playing as S.T.A.R.S to fight terrorism in Racoon City? I've always wondered about the daily life of S.T.A.R.S members and R.P.D officers pre RE events.

I'd like them to go deep on dark fairytales type stuff, focus on a vibe kinda like the gretel & hansel movie (the 2020 one not the witch hunters one)
Mainly hope the next game focuses on mood and scares rather than flooding you with combat.

I'd prefer they keep it in the US if everyone is going to have an American accent regardless. Some bumblefuck town in Nevada would be a cool setting.

A high-rise setting where the super-rich has their own entire floors that are all unique to their characters could be cool. I was originally thinking a hotel, but having somewhere where the environments can be unique to particular characters feels ideal. Of course, each of them is dabbling in weird experiments on their bodies for the eventual boss fights.

The American Southwest idea is also cool. Could have a desert environment but with a small town and a casino. Could have weird roadside attractions that turn into nightmares.
