It's more subtle, but I would say going all the way from the bottom of Liurnia, through the Ruin-Strewn precipice and Altus, all the way to the top of Mt Gelmir in Elden Ring. It's basically one continuous climb, and really made me appreciate the world design in this game.

A lot of my favorites have been said but I'll just give a shout out to Bloodborne

The ladder climb from the caves in the forbidden woods where you end up in old yharnam near iosefka's clinic/right at the start of the game was mind blowing

Without a doubt climbing the Ruin Strewn Precipice in Elden Ring. Jaw dropping for me.

This is kind of cheating, because it's the entire game, but if anyone wants a truly white knuckle climbing experience, give "Hatch" a shot! It's a really simple climbing system, but it feels really satisfying and becomes absolutely bare-knuckled at the end of it's hour-ish experience. If you've ever thought "the climbing in all these 3rd person action games is so unengaging because you can't fail" give this one a shot.

The dev is making another climbing game called "Lorn's Lure" that looks awesome as well. There's a demo for on that Steam! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1417930/Lorns_Lure/

Sideways example

At the end of Mass Effect 1 you are *ascending* the tower to the council chamber. What's cool was seeing Sovereign in the background. Since you're in space too, it was fun to see enemies get blasted off and float away.

last of us 2. i haven't done a replay yet, but when i do, the biggest reason is to do this again. climbing up this, then descending through the hotel, then to the hospital to fight the rat king is probably my favorite group of sections you go through in a naughty dog game.

Climbing the cliff before the final colossus, when it starts to rain hard and you run into it

The tall building in the middle of the first Crackdown, having to go look for things to make you jump higher.

Bob-omb Battlfield was pretty memorable for me. Despite it's relative small size it had warps built into, shortcuts, multiples ways to reach it (i.e. using the cannon), and even missions built around it (racing to the top). Nintendo really hit it out of the park with the design of that first world and using the "mountain" in that first level to give you a sense of height.

Skies of Arcadia (this game also has a literal Sky Ladder, but I don't think you can climb it? I can't remember)

I'd recommend not watching if you haven't played the game. Maybe a minute or so just the see the amazing art and hear the rushing wind. You feel so damn high up, and the game is already perilous as is. What's funny is I went round the other way, so climbed down this bit on my first playthrough. Either way, the upper wall section is one of my favourites, gives me chills. The game, the controls, the difficulty, the brutality of the world... it all puts you in such a head space. An actual survival game.

Entered the thread looking for this, I leave satisfied.

Honorable mention to Metropolis in Downpour DLC:

Climbing Mount Lanayru and fighting that big dragon in BOTW is one of my favorite memories of my favorite game of the last 10 years.

Neclord's Castle in Suikoden I.
It was so cool seeing day turn to dusk to evening as you climbed making it feel like a race against time.

Dishonorable mention: Tower of Babel in Xenogears and climbing out of Hades in GoW.
