I started on a C64 late in the 8-bit scene and all the way through the 16-bit scene, so I joined quite late.

1. N64
2. Dreamcast
3. GameCube
4. DS
5. Wii
6. 3DS
7. Wii U

End scene. I haven't got a Switch as I know the only game I'd play on it, the only game I really spent so much time with on the Wii U, is Splatoon. And no game is good enough to convince me to buy hardware to play only it.

Besides, I've had a PC alongside all those consoles and it's been my preferred platform through all the years so I'm happy with having only that.

1. NES - After begging parents for one for almost a year, got it for Christmas 1988
2. SNES - Christmas 1992
3. 3DO - Grandparents got it for me in 1995
4. N64 - Traded in 3DO and games for merely a credit towards a N64 in late 1996
5. PSX - Gift from Grandparents in late 1997 when I had crazy Final Fantasy VII envy and the N64 release slate was anemic
6. Dreamcast in 1999 - First console I bought with money earned on my own
7. PS2 in 2001 - Bought when MGS2 came out
8. GameCube and Xbox both in early 2002

Since then I have purchased every new major console (no Ouya trash or anything like that) in its launch window (usually on launch day) except for the Xbox Series X. Have no need for that console when I have a gaming PC.

We've had some polls on here in the OT side and most of us seem to be 30+, I'm 38. Forums in general attract an older crowd, most zoomers I think use things like Discord and Reddit more.

I'm not including any classic consoles I picked up along the way. All of these consoles were still being supported with new software when they were purchased. I've also had several pit stops on the PC along the way when the consoles were near the end of their lifespans but new consoles hadn't come out yet.

Nice thread, great fun to read!

I think I've got everything in order; I left out hardware revisions though. I bought a DS lite, DSi XL and a 3DS XL in addition to the launch systems (and sold the OG DS…what an ugly piece of hardware ^^) but I'm not sure when that happened, exactly. Also I recently got an OLED Switch because my eleven-year old son has taken my launch model hostage. :)
Also there are two NES systems (one PAL, one US), two Mega Drives (model 1 and 2), two Dreamcasts (because the Japanese one was a steal at 30 bucks, like new, and the dude even brought it to my doorstep) and two boxed Gameboys (my dad got both from work). And three Xbox 360s, one of them Japanese for those sweet sweet shoot'em ups. <3

So yeah, still have all of these except for #29….just wasn't able to get anywhere with purchasing games for it and of the ones I had, few ran without any glitches or problems of various kinds.

1. NES
2. Gameboy
3. Mega Drive

NES > SNES > Genesis > PS1 > N64 > DC > PS2 > GC > Xbox > PS3 > Wii > 360 > Wii U > PS4 > PS5 > Switch OLED

I've bought various handhelds like GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, PSP and Vita models throughout that list over the years, so I won't bother fitting those in.

  1. PS1 (Christmas 1997/8? Bundled with Soul Blade/Edge.)
  2. Game Boy Color (2000. Basically a Pokémon machine, everybody played Blue/Red/Yellow during recess at school. Bought it with Yellow.)
  3. PS2 (Christmas 2002 maybe, don't think it was bundled with any game.)
  4. NDS Lite (2006. Bought it with Mario 64. I don't think I bought it for a specific game but Ace Attorney and CiNG games were a big factor. I really wanted to play Another Code, they didn't have it so I bought Trauma Center. Still a great game.)
  5. PS3 (Christmas 2008, bundled with Little Big Planet, bought it with MGS4.)
  6. -- First gaming PC in 2011 --
  7. Wii (2012. My mom wanted to play Wii Fit, I played mostly Another Code and the Trauma Centers. She used it twice btw.)
  8. PSP (2013. I've always been kind of interested and back in the day I played some games on a friend's PSP, but when the fantranslation of Danganronpa released I finally decided to get one.)
  9. PSVita (2014. I was pretty sure I was gonna buy it because I wanted to play a bunch of stuff but when Danganronpa got officially localized I immediately bought it.)
  10. 2DS XL (2019. It had a few games I wanted to play like Samus Returns and the Ace Attorneys so when I found it for a good deal I got it. AA5 was ass, though.)
With everything releasing on PC (especially japanese games) consoles became redundant for me, so that's it.
I thought I was gonna get a PS4 for Yakuza, eventually, but waiting paid off. Hopiumfully Bloodborne, TLG and Gravity Rush 2 will show up on PC as well someday.

I watched my dad play PS1, but I don't recall if I actually had a PS1 or just played some of his, so I'll just start with PS2 > Gamecube > Gaming PC > Xbox 360 > PS3 > PS4 > Wii U > Switch > Xbox One. Something like that, or roughly, I have a terrible memory.

What I do know, is when I got into PC gaming around 2003-2004, I slowed down on the consoles until years into their lifecycle when I could get them cheaper, and that has continued to this day. I also only owned the Wii U and Xbox One for like a year before I threw them to a relative. I had an N64, I think? I just never gave much a shit about Nintendo outside handhelds, so I think I played it once and it disappeared somewhere under a bed. Don't recall the timing on that one.

Not adding handhelds, my memory is far too terrible to recall the timing there, too. I owned a classic brick Game Boy, a Color, an Advance, and an SP at some point. And then a DS lite, a 3DS, a PSP, and a Vita.

I've also had 3 Gaming PCs. First one around 2010 with an i5-2500 + HD 6850, second one around 2014 with an i5-4670k + GTX 970, and the latest one bought in late 2020 with a 5800X + 6800XT.

And PCs were sprinkled all throughout, starting with a TI around 1980 to the gaming PC I have now. I was primarily a PC gamer from the early 90's until 2006. I missed a lot of console gaming during those years. The original Xbox, Gamecube & N64 era, Dreamcast, and others didn't even exist in my mind back then.

I also borrowed by Dad's PS3 from time to time for a few games, but never primarily owned/used it. Plus various gaming capable PC's were sprinkled in there as well.

Genesis really stands out, but the funny thing is I actually wanted a Super Nintendo. Dad however, bought me a Genesis because it was cheaper. It was one of those shitty Genesis 3 models. It broke within a few months and I was given a model 2 as a replacement.

Until the PS5, which I was somehow able to casually buy at launch, I always seemed to get a Playstation console later in the generation.

Xbox 360(ffxiii) - my og 360 red ringed so I got this one (this one also red ringed)
Xbox 360 S(halo reach) - worked the midnight launch and got it that night and I am a sucker for halo
Xbox 360 S(star wars) - loved the console and we had a great promo and I had to buy it
Nintendo 3ds - worked the launch and bought it for $250 . . . . . . .
Psp(3000) - found a nice one at work and it became mine
Psvita - worked the launch and bought it and an overpriced 16gb card
Wiiu(32 gb) - worked the launch and got tricked into buying it by a coworker
Ps4 - worked the launch
Xbox one - worked the launch
PsvitaTV - my boss at the time got one from work and didn't want it so he gave it to me
Xbox one(elite bundle) - worked the launch and wanted that fancy sd/hdd it had . . . . . Wasn't worth it
New Nintendo 3ds XL(majora mask) - had to order off of best buy but such a gorgeous handheld
Xbox one s(white 2tb) - worked the launch
Xbox one s(gears of War 4) - worked the launch also the best looking console i own except i get ptsd from the disc tray opening because of the god damn juvies
Ps4 pro - worked the launch
Switch - worked the launch
Nes - a buddy of mine was selling his collection and he had a cib nes and I had to have it. It cost me $100. He's a Saint as he also sold so many great snes games for $5 a pop like chrono trigger. Just wish I could've gotten the og halo xbox he sold to my boss at the time for $50 cib
Ps4 pro(god of war) - worked the launch and im a sucker for hype
Xbox one x(project Scorpio) - worked the launch
Switch - found an original one at work so I bought it and modded it
Ps5- order 2 and someone from FedEx stole a box and they never got me another one. But I did get atleast one for launch day
Xbox series x - picked it up the same day with the ps5
MiSTer FPGA - after many months of research I bought one of these and its the best purchase I've made in gaming ever
Analogue NT - thought theses were always neat so I ordered the last run of the nt and 2 below at the same time but in hindsight the MiSTer is just so much better. Still sealed
Analogue super nt - same as above
Mega Sg - same as above
Switch oled(white) - bought it at launch. Still haven't opened it
Xbox series x(halo) - somehow was able to order one off of target and im still a sucker for halo. Still sealed
Steamdeck(512gb) - waiting for the pre order to go up and couldn't order for 23 minutes and just showed up less than 2 months ago

Other systems I own but don't remember when I got them but they're spare systems. I want to say people just gave me to me as they didn't want them.
Dreamcast, xbox, ps2, ps1, ps3, wii, and a GameCube(silver) - all of them work except for the wii and the ps3 that I just need to actually fix at some point as it is an og 60gb. Seriously just found a bag in my closet with a bunch of xbox and GameCube games in it and so were those 2 systems.

Edit: Forgot PSVITA TV and Steamdeck

PC has been replaced upgraded multiple times through the years, continue to play games on both PC and Console, coming out of the console wars in the 90s, I realized that theres no point picking sides, and vowed to just play games no matter what console. And then I started earning my own money so I could just buy the consoles I wanted anyway......
