What's the better console name: Sega Genesis or Sega Mega Drive?

Genesis sounds like the most "throw a dart at a board full of generic names" ever, lol. It's, like, on a list of least-imaginative console names of all time.
Mega Drive is winning the poll because it's better!
Mega Drive for me. It has the right amount of 90s edge in it, after all it was the era of super, hyper, turbo, thunder, etc. Now that I think about it, it was truly an era of metal/hard rock. Beside I always think of the band when I see Genesis.
Yeh, right? It's just so much more fun and ties into the 90s perfectly.
All anyone needs to look at is WHY Sega couldn't use Mega Drive in the US.
Because Mega Drive Systems held the trademark on the US. They sold computer storage systems.

Was initially in the "can't pick one over the other" camp, but switched to "Mega Drive" after seeing the logos in the OT.
Second place is making a console that sounds like a boring Wintel peripheral. You have lost this argument.
It is up for debate lol, and although I agree Mega Drive sounds awful in 2023, back then it clearly would sound more exciting to kids than Genesis. Hell I bet it would sound more exciting to kids now.
The idea that computers are boring is so incredibly console gaming centric. (And maybe American centric overall.) My first gaming system was the ill-fated TI 99/4A computer, followed up by the Atari ST, so I could never see computers as boring. The damn things had joystick ports, what else were you going to do with those? But even screwing around drawing stuff with the mouse or recording something played on a casio synth keyboard were part of the fun, you had much more advanced mario paint apps well before mario paint.
I grew up with Genesis. Also got older it feels like it's dripping of 90s marketing. Mega drive is some serious shit.
Genesis sounds way cooler, and I feel like it fits in line with the later Sega console names better too. Being one word and all.

Genesis is a fantastic name but the problem is it gaslit Americans who didn't grow up with it that the master system never happened.

there's a reason Sega kicked so much ass in the U.S. the Genesis brought the heat like a burning bush with biblical proportion. Make you come to Jesus. Candy ass wimps weren't ready for it.
