Maybe in 2010, or maybe purely for PC games these days it's an ugly old resolution for anything above tablet size.1440p is really just the perfect resolution for a desktop. It's so much more freeing for desktop usage, and works well for games too.
Just bought a very high end machine (RTX 2080, i9, 32Gb RAM) but my PC monitor is only 27inch 1080p display. I could technically just plug it up to my 4k TV but I'm not sure if that's worth it? My thought is that games will run better on the 1080p monitor and because it's smaller than my 65inch 4k display I won't notice too much of a difference. I don't know maybe I'm just being lazy not wanting to lug the machine up and down the stairs (desk is upstairs, TV is downstairs). What about you guys? Do you play in with a higher resolution? Does anyone have a high end machine but play mostly is 1080p?
This... You're missing out, OP.4K @ 120hz. Along with gsync and HDR.
I have the same specs as you, except a 2080ti. Don't waste that rig on 1080p.
It's a PG279q. A 27 inches 165hz G-Sync monitor with 1440p resolution.
I don't plan to go "4K" anytime soon. If anything I'm impatient to enjoy this resolution even more in the next few years at its top framerate.
P.S. As we are vaguely in topic: what is the best suggested way to clean these sorts of monitors?
I'm constantly in fear of ruining the panel when I'm wiping it.
I know I def don't want to. I may end up lugging it down the steps until I feel like I can afford a new monitor4K @ 120hz. Along with gsync and HDR.

Same here. Pretty sure i'll stay that way for awhile.I'm on that 1440p/144fps/gsync combo. It's godlike, especially for fast-paced/competitive games
The ASUS PG279Q (or QZ) is pretty much the ideal 1440p/144-165Hz IPS panel with GSYNC. No glaring flaws or features omitted. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for.1080p. Looking to upgrade to a 1440p mainly because of FF14 but it's difficult to find a fancier one (IPS, 120+ Hz, Free/Gsync) that doesn't have some issue it seems. Leaning towards the LG GL850 at the moment, but I'm concerned about poor contrast.
Thanks. That one is also on the short list, but multiple reviews mentioned the gamma response is too dark even after calibration, a problem I had with an older monitor and absolutely don't wanna experience again. The ASUS PG279Q (or QZ) is pretty much the ideal 1440p/144-165Hz IPS panel with GSYNC. how does 1440 look on a 4k TV? Good?
