Dune and Tenet are recent examples, because of covid. Going back, I definitely regret not seeing Guardians of the Galaxy in the cinema
Tenet was absolutely unintelligible in theaters, so don't worry about that one.

I can't really think of any movie that I felt I missed in theaters. Maybe if I could see Evangelion 2.0 in theaters, it would be cool.

I feel pretty "meh" about Avatar these days and it was pretty much the same for when the movie originally came out, despite everyone talking it up. It still probably would be a cool thing to see in a good 3D theater, instead of at home years later. Like in the moment watching it was a good time at least, even though I'm over it now.

The Raid 2 is one of my favorite action films of all time and I passed on seeing it in theatres cause i didn't feel like watching the first one to catch up with the hype. Can only blame myself!!

Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse. I just… completely missed it until I watched it in 2020 and it genuinely blew me away. Seeing that in imax must have been truly amazing ugh

Fellowship of the Ring is the big one. Seeing Two Towers first on IMAX (full scale IMAX, not the miniaturized ones) might be my favorite theater experiences next to Avatar and Mad Max: Fury Road, and I wonder how that would have gone having seen Fellowship of the Ring first and knowing more of what was going on in that film.

15 years ago there would be plenty I'd regret not seeing in theaters.

Today? With a 65" 4K Dolby Vision OLED and a decent Dolby Atmos surround sound setup? There's literally nothing I'd regret not seeing in theaters.

I'll still go to theaters here and there if I just don't feel like waiting for it to come to home video, but other than that, watching at home is a better experience that going to the theater IMO.

Boogie Nights for sure

My favorite movie of all time, and even though I'm old enough to have seen it in theatres, I didn't. Would have blown my mind

Blade Runner 2049

Granted the movie didn't click with me until my second viewing so I'm not sure how the theater would have affected my first opinion. But if it ever does get a re-release, I'll do my best to be there.

Also for those looking to not miss out in the future. ABSOLUTELY go see Everything Everywhere All at Once.
I know it's hard to find showing in a lot of areas, but it is wort the effort to see.

I saw No Time To Die twice in theaters, the first time in IMAX, but I regret not seeing it in Dolby Cinema. By the time I had time to see it the second time Dune was dominating all of the Dolby Cinema screens. Dune is another one I regret not seeing in theaters.

Also The Lighthouse lol

The Matrix. I watched the trilogy on DVD.

The movies I label as "no Brainer/you fucked it up if you didn't" on theaters are Dune, Blade Runner 2049, 1917 and Mad Max Fury Road. Each of these movies are an entirely different experience watching them on IMAX and at full volume, especially Dune (those ships and scale were made for Imax clearly).

Infinity War and End Game

I don't like seeing movies by myself, and I don't like paying 15$ to see movies in the theater.

Now, my Saturday board game group will break for movies (particularly MCU movies, though other ones will make the docket as well...Dune was awesome)
Also helps the theater only charges 5$, even for new movies.

I'm sour I never went to see the Hobbit films in 48fps. I know that approach wasn't well-received by moviegoers but knowing I probably won't get to see it as it was intended bums me out. I think it would have been really cool.

The Matrix is the biggest one. It was completely off my radar until it came out on DVD, and then I fell in love with it.

The big 70s and 80s horror movies would have been a wild experience in theaters. Especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre, could you imagine?

Really only movies I would've been super young during and never saw in theaters. I would have liked to have seen The Matrix at 5 but I wouldn't have understood it anyways lol
